Yesterday evening, I flashed the Ice Cream Pureness ROM using CWM(x-parts) recovery. After performing a full wipe as the directions instructed, I installed the ROM and rebooted. Boot loop. /facepalm
Since last night I have done a ton of research to no avail. The only advice I have found has been to reflash stock but flashtools errors everytime I attempt to flash.
Is this because I didn't install a custom kernal first?
If yes, do I have my first paperweight after 4 years of flashing ROMs with no issues like this?
Did you flash a kernel? Most people forget to do that.

I don't know what is going on with my Epic Touch. I rooted the phone, added CWN recovery, and then installed starburstROM. After my phone tried to encrypt, my phone would not start up. So I went back to the stock kernel, tried to re-root, and add CWN. Once I install CWN, my phone goes into bootloop. The only way I can get out of that loop is if I install stock kernel or re-root. I would like to reset everything, root, and add a new ROM. I am relatively new at this. Would someone be so kind to help me out?
I am pretty sure I want to install the midnight ROM. So any help finding the right things to install would be appreciated.
I got it working by using versions very similar to stock. Now I am installing midnight rom

Well, I just installed midnight and now it won't turn on. I see the bootup screen but the phone turns off after that. BUmmer, any ideas?
I would flash the stock eg30 tar and start over.

before I install new ROMS, I wipe everything. Factory reset, wipe cache, then flash the new ROM.
As posted above, also flash back to stock eg30 and start over.
Got my brand new nexus today, rooted it using toolkit, then i wanted to install a rom. Everything went fine, flashed eagle blood, everything went fine. Then i downloaded an app and it took for ever to download so i rebooted my phone, then i was stuck with the dreaded animation lock. Now no matter what i do, i cant get past the animation. Still have access to CWM, tried a factory reset/cache wipe...but no success...
Any idead?
P.S. It's not me, it's my friends nexus! I got skyrocket!
Flash the stock ROM on the phone. You have access to recovery so use it then after you verify you can boot with the stock ROM then try flashing another ROM on again.
Personally as it is your friends phone if (s)he doesn't know how to flash ROMs then I would leave the phone stock.
No idea what caused you from being able to boot to this issue but this is my advice.
by that you mean to what??? because on the skyrocket flashing to stock rom is quite simple, via ODIN + Stock TAR...but how to do it on nexus?

Go into cwm, do a wipe and also go into advanced and wipe dalvik. You should then be able to reflash your custom rom to fix your boot loop. If thats successful then go back to cwm and make a NANDROID backup so they have a restore point if anything goes wrong in the future.
If you want to flash back to stock its quite simple and can all be done from my ToolKit. Its basically going to http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html and downloading the latest factory rom for your model, moving it to the correct folder in the ToolKit and then selecting option 8 from the ToolKit to extract the images and flash it.
Mark.

I've run into the same issue tonight going back to Apex 1.0.2 from the 4.0.4 leak. I'm trying the suggestion below to wipe and re-flash the ROM. I'll report back when I'm finished.
Edit: Yep, it worked!
I can no longer flash a new rom and boot up successfully. It goes through the entire flash process correctly, but then boots straight into CWM when i restart. I have tried to flashing back to stock via odin, then starting fresh, did a factory reset from standard recovery. I have flashed MANY times prior with no problems. The only way I can get it to boot is when I restore with Odin. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried TWRP and same issue. Boots straight into whatever recovery I have installed. I have never had a problem with CWM before. I was running Serenity 1.1, noticed my GPS wasn't working and reverted back to stock and did factory reset. Ever since, not able to flash. I had flashed a couple of the Sprint leak roms prior to Serenity with no issues.

I don't want stock recovery. I want to be able to flash again. I tried using TWRP after fresh install but still have same issue. Either I boot straight into recovery after flashing rom, or it just sits on the SGS III logo. The only thing I can flash is back to stock either already rooted or plain stock. I am at a loss. I have been flashing with no problems since august and have no idea what the problem can be. I have even tried redownloading the roms.

Well fortunately for you rooting the GS3 is very easy, so do as he says, Odin to stock, re-root and flash. If you are seriously at a loss because you don't want to go through the trouble to be able to flash and root again then I suggest searching forums for someone who might have the same problem.
That's the problem, after flashing back to stock, and re rooting, I have the problem. I cannot flash anything using CWM or TWRP anymore. I am currently rooted and stock. No recovery installed. Not sure what happened and why recoveries are not working. I don't mind flashing back to stock.
Grab a stock image from sammobile.com and try that.

Evidently fifth time is a charm. Restored back to rooted stock, reinstalled apps, twrp and successfully made a back up and restored. Was able to flash Ariel. Not sure what the difference was but back up and running now. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Hello guys!
As the title says, I keep on having boot loops after flashing any custom JB Roms (Jedi, LiquidSmooth, CM Nightly, Slimbean). I'm not new to flashing roms (I got LG units though, SU660 and KU5900). When I tried flashing ICS Roms, I don't have any problem. But I want JB that bad!
I followed KonstantinKeller's thread of restoring/recovering from a bad flash (going back to GB), rooted following Melvin's thread. Then did all the prerequisites..like the common wiping of data, clear cache & davlik. But then again after flashing JB roms listed above, I keep on having boot loops!
What did I do wrong? This ain't my first time flashing (first time on this phone -T989- though)
I read some posts with almost the same problem, but I don't think I found a solution for this. Any good soul that can extend their help is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
I got a bootloop before when trying to flash JB roms and what I did was restore to original state (using the bad flash recovery technique), and then not rooting it but installing cwm through Odin and dirty flashing the Rom in cwm. Once it flashed I used it for a few to make sure that everything was working correctly. Then I got the goo manager app and got twrp. After that I followed all the steps in the OP (Jedi jelly) and flashed the Rom. Now I'm running Jedi jelly 3.1 perfectly. Hope this method helps.

are you using darkside scripts to wipe? because they will cause bootloops

is there any way to reverse the loop that the darkside wipe is causing?
it REALLY sounds like the recovery u are using is TOO OLD. Make sure u are using the latest version of twrp (2.3.3) to flash all jellybean roms.
TWRP is backwards compatible and touch capable, so if you're worried about flashing GB or ICS ROMs it'll do the trick just fine
it is however a requirement for flashing all 4.1 ROMs.
Basic install instructions:
make sure u have root
download goo manager from play
open > menu > install open script recovery
agree to everything, but make sure t989 is in the downloaded image name
reboot to recovery u should see twrp
Hey all, I've tried searching but haven't had any luck. I believe I have a somewhat unique issue.
Back in June 2012 I originally tried flashing FXP CM10 but kept getting a boot loop. Since then I put on JJ's Hybrid rom and MIUI until I decided to try FXP again. (147 or something) It worked fine and I used it for quite a while until I just recently updated to FXP 203 without issue.
I got a new Nexus 4 and decided to do a complete wipe on my Arc so that I could give it away. I wiped cache, data and (stupidly) SD card.
After the wipe it froze on "Android is upgrading" and a battery pull made no difference.
After that, I decided to re flash the kernel and ROM, but made no difference. I flashed MIUI (a version I knew that worked) and the phone worked fine, but then I tried with FXP205 and right back to boot looping. (even tried downloading the rom to my work computer)
Most recently I left the phone to boot loop for a while and it actually managed to startup, and I could use it for a few seconds before it froze and restarted again.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try? I feel like I've tried everything, and it's strange that FXP worked totally fine for 6+ months and now this issue. I don't have any nandroids unfortunately since I wiped my SD card (like I said, stupid)
Youre flashing the following kernel by fxp inside the zip?
Remember to remove the boot.img from zip before installing.
Are you factory resetting, system format and dalvik wipe with cwm before installing zip?
Hey, thanks for the reply. I followed your instructions exactly, but I'm having the same problem. Any other ideas?
Flash a stock ftf as advised on the hundreds of other "bootloop" threads. CWM shouldn't even come into it.
