do i need to be rooted to view the /sys folder on my s3?
Yes. You're not even supposed to have access to /data or /cache by default.

Really? I think with es file explorer u can see those files but just can't make any changes
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I couldn't the other day. Root Explorer couldn't see anything in /data or /cache.
Didn't try another file utility though so coulda just been mine I guess. (It did say I didn't have permission to view the files in the folder though)

anyone have any File Explorer suggestion? it must be as good as Root Explorer but only access Internal & External SDCard and without root permission.. it's very dangerous if my little brother play with the system file (who knows?)
because I'm using CM9 and the OI File Manager is so stupid and poor..
thx in advance..
Astro file manager, es file manager (do not enable root explorer mode) or the stock file manager from samsung should do you fine...
Solid Explorer!

+1 for ES. I have been using it since it first came out. It's very good, the 1st thing I restore after factory reset / reflash.

Try X-plore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5sb25lbHljYXRnYW1lcy5YcGxvcmUiXQ..
It has the option to allow or disallow SU root access.
I recomend ES too it's free and adless, and it looks very elegant (especially the icons)

my opinion... is x-plore.
iam using it since iam using symbian phone (n81-n95) its the best file explorer... it can open apk as zip, open rar file, create zip, superuser permission, hex viewer, show hidden, edit permissiom, create/edit teks, has dedicated audio, picture, video player. and yeah...

You need to have a root explorer you can use ES File Explorer just make sure you go in settings and check for it to allow you to go up too root...
Once in root directory click the data folder, it is in there.

Thought I did that. Mind instructing me?
if using root Explorer.. Top will have a box that says "Mount as R/W" Click it. Open Editor to edit the file.. Make changes. Hit Save.. Close Root explorer, reboot phone, Profit. (These steps should work to show correct carrier, if something is wrong in post please add changes) thanks for shopping.

When you change the r/w properties just check them all I dont know what I neesa to be on exactly... when you edit the file there should of been 4 instances of "freegs3" that you change. After that make sure you save and reboot it should work

I was using es file explorer to browse to /system/app when I noticed a folder named "[email protected]" in /system. Any idea what this is. I have never seen it before and when I searched it on google only one result came up with it in TWRP 2.5.0.0. Looks like it was "voicebargeindata"? What is this? It will not let me delete it either.

I know how to make camera save to SD card NOT WHAT IM ASKING.
I am using Chrome, and stock mms, on stockrom[roooted]v2 by docholiday77.
Can i change the default save location to a folder on my SD card? Or have it ask where do you want to save this?
because right now its saving to internal sdcard>downloads. and im having to use my Root explorer to copy and paste the files into the appropriate file location, and its very inefficient.
Create a symlink using root explorer.
Long press the folder you want to use and choose Link to this Folder. The rest should be apparent.
Don't know if it'll hold after reboot.

My bad...
ment i have Root browser and ES file explorer*
there's no Symlink with them but there is a create shortcut in Root browser is that the same?
There should be a way to link them using those. Give it a try and see.
