LOL... Kindle app at Play store is a higher version than app at Amazon app store.
Lol I get the same thing happen with Netflix every time Google play updates before amazon. Also amazon will notify me to update Netflix even if my version is newer.

I have seen the Amazon app be a higher version on play. (The real shopping app, not the Amazon app store.)

Seen this quite a bit in cases where I got apps from Amazon as free app-of-the-day but then Google Play shows newer versions. They seem to lag on virtually everything.
On a side note on Kindle - their Android-based s/w lags their "basic" Kindle s/w in capabilities, of primary interest to me being the use of collections. It frustrates me that not even my Fire had these available - its functionality was really no different from the "standard" Android Kindle app. My Nexus 7 works the same as my Fire, from a Kindle book perspective.
Guys, am I going crazy or did the Kindle just get its integrated store back? Every time I would click the store it would launch Chrome (and Amazon.com) , but since the last "bug fix" update it is launching an actual store in the app. Or did it always do that?
Just checked, before it did lauch the store in the browser... It does launch the in app store now.

I want to use the New Yorker magazine app that is exclusively on the kindle fire, and I want to use it on my Galaxy Nexus. I put the apk on my phone and installed it, but when I open it, it forces closes. Is there any way to get this app (from the kindle fire) to work on Jelly Bean?
I had the same problem with the Wired Magazine app. Subscribed.
Considering how much stuff Amazon has changed on the Kindle Fire, I wouldn't be surprised if the apk has been made specifically for it and won't work on any other device.
Amazon apps generally do not work on stock Android. Amazon forked Android for it's own purposes and does not belong to the Open Handset Alliance which stipulates how apps should be coded to ensure uniformity across Android devices.
Wired version 2.7 and higher run on JB. You need to make sure you have amazon app store installed. Also, buy the free wired magazine app from amazon (it will be listed as incompatible but buy it anyway).

Can you or somebody upload or pm me with the apk? I have the print subscription but cannot download the apk from Amazon store as my country is blocked, yet Wired say I am entitled to the tablet version... So far I have only found 2.2
Hey guys-
As good as the google play store integration was to the aftv, I have an issue with the resolution of these apps- specifically, hbogo and the mx player app. Although it is offered, the movies and shows I watch from it are quite worse than the resolution of the shows natively installed in the aftv, such as netflix. Same issue for the case of mx player. As a result, I find that I tend to not really use either of them.
The reason why I want to use hbogo instead of the hbo shows offered in the amazon aftv is because I have a subscription to hbogo, and it offers shows and movies that the amazon hbo shows don't offer.
I presume this problem is unsolvable, since the sole reason why we can run the google apps is because it is using market helper to spoof the aftv to act as a nexus 7, a smaller tablet. This part is also curious though, since the nexus 7 that it is spoofing is known to support 720p resoution.
Is my settings wrong, or is this a known issue that users are coping with?
I am aware that aftv is in constant development with new apps and features, so I will definitely be patient. I just wanted to make sure.
Appreciate the help in advance!!

bump.. i think this problem will extend not only to hbogo but to all other of the apps involving google play+ market helper.

How did you install the HBO go app?
I side loaded it onto mine without play store access. the app starts up fine but I don't have a keyboard yet so I can't get further to see what the video resolution looks like. I'm not sure the play store spoof would affect it.... maybe there is some sort of config file that needs to be modified

thanks for the reply. I thought hbogo can only be installed through google play? if i can just sideload it, maybe that can provide better resolution.. where can i find the actual apk for the fire tv?
thanks in advance!
Do you have an android phone or tablet with root access? If you install the hbogo app on it you should be able to pull the apk off the file system

I was able to use the side loaded app last night
I agree the resolution doesn't look perfect but I can't figure out why. It wasnt horrible but on a large screen I could see what you are saying
I suppose it could be hard coded into the app but I don't know how to tell what the native output resolution is

thanks for the reply. Upon looking things up in the past xda forums, it seems the hbogo apk of the kindle fire version is hd. Unfortunately, I do not have any android phones or tablets.
If somebody can help me locate the HD kindle fire version of the hbogo apk, I can try sideloading it.
thanks in advance!

Would love to see the Kindle Fire apk of HBO Go as well. For the time being, I can use the Xfinity app to stream HBO content at full resolution, though it's less than ideal. The HBO Go app quality is crap.
Hi,
did anyone try or manage to install the Amazon Instant Video App for Tablets that Amazon promotes (in Germany) now? Why? I would like to watch videos on my Fire HDX with the shared prime account we use for our FireTV at home. While this is possible on any iPad or non-Amazon Android with the new app, the Kindle only allows to use prime instant video if the account of the device itself has been registered for prime. Using the deeply integrated app shop of the Fire HDX I even cannot find the video app.

Not sure this applies in Germany. I simply installed the Amazon App for Android v5.x from the Play Store. I can access/view Prime content from within. Similar to browser experience on a desktop. A bit annoying one has to launch a shopping app to view videos but it works and I'm not fussed enough to look for alternatives. As an aside, I was not fond of the Amazon app 'optimized' for tablets. Found the standard phone app worked better (personal preference).
I've updated to 4.6.1. (GSM Unlocked). When I try to use Amazon Prime Music and choose "cloud" instead of device, it shows the cloud items for a split-second, then goes back to "device".
I noticed I had two Amazon Music apps installed, different version numbers. One I could uninstall, the other claims it's a system app and cannot be uninstalled. I uninstalled the newer one, leaving the "system" version. Same behavior.
When I go to the Amazon app store and download and install the latest one, it says "There was an error while installing Amazon Prime Music. Please try again.".
When I access music in my library, the app just crashes and offers to send a report (I presume to Amazon).
Any idea how I can get a fully functional Amazon Music app installed?
Additional note: Is there an Amazon Music app AND an Amazon Prime Music app?
Are you using a Launcher other then the stock Fire OS? I had the same issue with the Kindle app. Amazon seems to have 2 "Apps" for their services that launchers show. One does not work the other does. My Music app does break if you installed it from the Google app store. You said you tried from the Amazon store so I'm not sure. The new Music 4.4 app just came out see if you can find the APK for it.

What I wound up doing was "uninstalling updates" from the one I could not uninstall completely. That reverted me back to some really old version of the music app. Then, I went to the Appstore and found Prime Music and this time it installed.
But, yes, I have Dodol launcher, and it still shows "Music" app and "Amazon Music" app. The later is the newest version that now works.
Thanks.
So I'm having extreme frustrations with the native Youtube app for my Fire TV Stick. It's often slow, randomly crashes, CONSTANTLY lags without fail, and I can't even use the Amazon Fire TV Android app to type to search. It's just not an overall well done app for the Stick at least. I can't speak about the Fire TV Box, which I might purchase due to some sluggishness with the Stick (i.e. Youtube, Kodi, etc) So, I've tried other alternatives on the Amazon Appstore. Namely OneTube. It works decently, but it doesn't look too pretty, is difficult to find things when I don't know what I want to watch, and no Cast/pair support.
The older Youtube for Google TV works well, but unfortunately, when using the remote, I can't click the search box to search anything lol.
I've used the Youtube for Android TV 1.0.5.5 app(sideloaded) and, minus the regular complaints about the app itself, runs great! No lag, videos work fine, and I can type to search with the Amazon Fire TV app on my phone. Downside is that I can't seem to find a pair device setting in the app itself :/ Now maybe I need to sideload google play services in order to get it to show up? I'm not sure, but I thought that was only necessary if you wanted to sign into your YouTube account.
So my question is are there any alternate YouTube players that work well, or is there a way to pair my device with the new Youtube for Android TV app?
The kodi YouTube app works very well and you could use yatse to cast videos to it.
