[Q] Problem with Rooting when I updated to latest Firmware Oct.12 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I am new here and would really like some help from you guys.
So here is the story I work in IT I am very savy but never got the chance to root my phone because I didn't want to brick it. But now I am tired of waiting for jelly bean update for my T-mobile Samsung GS3. I watch all the videos on how to go into download mode and use Odin v1.85 to install a rom(I think that's what it does sorry if it's not correct I am a noob when it comes to this) Any way when I tried to install it everything passed and everything seemed ok. But when it rebooted it wasn't rooted and I didn't understand why so when I went back into download mode to see if I did something wrong. When I went back into it I found out something that I am pissed about. With the latest firmware update(please excuse if this is wrong but i think I am right) It says Qualcomm secureboot: Enable Does this mean they have locked the boot loader so I cannot root or put a custom rom on my GS3?
If you could please tell me what that means it would be great. I have a screen shot if anybody wants to see it. Is there a way around this?

Yes you can. You can't update a phone with CWM recovery though.

Correct a rooted phone can update but not with any custom recovery. You need to flash back to the factory stock recovery.

OK so looks like everyone is here was incorrect. The 4.04 rooted update is here in the XDA forums all i needed to do was flash it and the new antenna and everything is working fine now. here are the links.

Your right, stupid answers, that's not an ota update you did. That was pulled from a phone which was updated and packaged into a flashable file to use on a rooted device. But a carrier ota update as your device was asking you to update will not work without stock recovery.

Isn't that exactly what i asked for second post in? Point is if you knew that, why didn't you say so? Look there's nothing wrong with being wrong every once in a while but be graceful about it. And if your going to give advice make sure you fully read the question and offer decent advice. You were saying there was no way to update it without unrooting and flashing back to stock. That was after I asked "yea that's what I thought I was going to have to do. but wanted to see if there was an update package someone had made for rooted devices like some others had." Is that not exactly what I asked for????

Well, you are right that there are a lot of partially right and partially wrong answers in this thread. But what are you saying is not exactly right either.
1) There is a difference between updating your existing build (like what you had asked to do in the first post) and flashing an entirely new build.
2) There is a difference between running a stock ROM (like what you were running before) and running a ROM that looks like it's stock, but is not (like what you are running now).
3) Root has NO impact whatsoever on your ability to install OTA updates on your stock ROM.
4) An OTA update will NOT install with a stock recovery UNLESS you are using the stock recovery version that came with the build you are using. (It seems like a lot of toolkits are flashing non-matching stock recoveries).
5) An OTA update file can EASILY be installed if you have CWM installed. See here.
6) Your phrase "unrooting and flashing back to stock" is silly, as flashing back to stock replaces your ROM, so why would you need to "unroot" your current ROM only to flash a stock ROM overtop? You don't root a device - you root an Android OS build. The phrase "root my device" does not make any sense.

[Q]How to Undo Root/Custom ROM ?

Hello,
About a month ago I rooted and installed a custom JB ROM (Kangdroid I believe?) onto my AT&T Galaxy SIII with the custom recovery mod. Now that the official release of JB has come out from AT&T I want to return my phone to it's original factory state with no custom anything, and then update to the official JB release. I don't want to use a custom un-bloated ROM. Call me crazy but I really didn't want to root/mess with the phone in the first place but I really, really, really wanted Jelly Bean. I already have backed up my contacts since that is the only thing I really need to save from my phone at the moment. I can download all of my apps again, etc. I tried searching the forums but couldn't come up with a very clear answer on how to do this. I found it hard to figure out exactly what I needed to do, and since I did this so long ago, I pretty much forgot how to do all of the little things that made my first attempt at flashing/rooting successful. I guess my question is this: What software do I need and what are some links (if any) on this site to help me return the phone to it's original out-of-the box state so that I can update my OS with the Samsung Kies software. Thanks a lot for your help and I hope to hear from some of you soon. Sorry for noobing it up in here.

The same way you rooted it with odin .. download the stock rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
push it on with odin and that should revert your phone back to stock ..

[Q] Will Verizon S4 Mini Ever Have Odin Files, Custom Recovery?

I am wondering if I will ever be able to install a custom recovery on my Verizon S4 Mini (SCH-I435). I used Kingo to root, but I don't really want to mess with the phone too much, because if I screw it up, there is no coming back from it. Do we know if anybody is working on extracting the stock Odin image files for this model?
As much as I LOVE the S4 Mini, if this model can't be hacked more than just root, I may return it for the Moto X.
Thanks.

I have all the partitions extracted but have had no luck building a Oden file. Keep getting Fail with oden.
And signature verification errors in recovery.
Tried to build recovery, but its beyond what I know how to do.
I have a Rom ready, just waiting on recovery to test it.
I am fairly new to samsung, been on HTC's for years. Ive soft bricked my first mini, so I know how you feel.
I was ok with the mini til they blocked wifi tether hotspot in the VRUAMK5 update.
I'm willing to do whatever I can to get this device going. If not, gotta move on
It seems like its gonna be a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
the Verizon model i435 can do a recovery to factory through the Verizon upgrade and repair app if you ever need to go back to stock.
Any news/developments on this? I'm really hoping to get CWM recovery installed.
It's hard without having adb during boot or odin to see exactly where what i have is going wrong. thinking around the bootloader method is going to do it but how is my question now cause i keep getting kernel: fail crap from knox i believe
I froze, then deleted all things knox. Here's hoping that doesn't mess my noise up.
Any updates on recovery? Sorry if this bumps a dead thread.
Hate to dig up old threads. but i have been working on some development on this device, mostly putting it on Straighttalk.
I have 2 of the same phones that are both working on Straighttalk and AT&T.
Heres where im at right now:
Rooted.
Android 4.4.2
baseband I435VRUBNE1
BUILD # KOT49H.I435VRUBNE1
SE "ENFORCING"
Now i used THIS THREAD to install a recovery onto the device (3.75 BETA Version)
all i need is someone to develop the recovery for the mini instead of the note 3...
ANY HELP?

I think I made a brick (Sasktel Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-i747m)

Hello... I recently bricked my phone. I was running MrRobinsons root injected Bell ROM on my sasktel S3 (radio wouldn't work with the sasktel rom)... Everything was going great for months.... I had xposed framework installed and all was fine.... Had the Wanam Exposed module installed and the visual tweaks worked good too... I had the STATUS changed to OFFICIAL as it was showing custom (didn't think nothing of it just thought it was kewl I could change it cosmetically)....
So the KNOX counter was tripped so I couldn't install anything OTA... no big deal.... But when the update came out from sasktel for my phone it offered to update to Kitkat 4.4.2... I was shocked lol.... So I installed the update knowing I would lose root, but I wanted to try out Kitkat....
Everything seemed to work OK... Downloaded... Installed... Rebooted.... Had some errors (root access not granted)... I then Rebooted my phone.... Screen went black.... And that is where it sits.... No response to anything I do... Doesn't power on... Doesn't go into recovery MODE or download mode, doesn't even show if the battery is charging.... I bought a USB jig to try to get into download mode... That didn't work... Tried plugging into computer but gives driver error "QHSUSB_DLOAD".... Aside from replacing the board inside or sending away to get it jtag'd .... Is there anything else I could try? I'm assuming I screwed it up by trying to update a BELL rom with a sasktel update.... Any help or advice would be tremendously appreciated... Thank you
I'm not desperate to have it fixed as I replaced it with an S4 but wanted it for a spare or for my kids....

If the Jig isn't working, Jtag might be your your cheapest option.
I think the error happened cause you didn't remove root prior to flashing the update. That being said, it shouldn't have even let you install it while rooted.
Yeah... I know... Every time I checked for update before it said system had been modified and wouldn't allow it....
Then when the option to update popped up I was kind of shocked.... But figured I would OTA and reroot after if I wanted... Didn't think I would brick it, but sasktel update on a bell rom wasn't good I guess... Wasn't even thinking about that aspect hehe..
Is there anywhere reliable to send away to get it jtag'd?

S3 ATT Like to know how to unlock bootloader, root the phone, and install custom ROM

Hey first time posting on xda devs and would like to know how to unlock bootloader, root the phone, and install custom ROM.
Now I have spent entire day backing up and searching the different people root but if someone can help me and point me in the right direction that would be great.
So I have a S3 from ATT Model: SGH-I747, Version: 4.1.2 JellyBean, BaseBand Version: I747UCDMG2, Kernel: 3.0.31 - 1300972. It is a stock ROM, I have never done anything to the phone at all before.
Now I will admit I followed a youtube video call "How to Root AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-I747!" by High on Android and I did everything in the video. I used odin v1.85, I did the PDA to the CWM.tar file, phone rebooted and I added the CWM superuser file and that is when I tried to get to CWM recovery mode and all I got was the phone's default recovery mode and not the CWM one.
From what I understand I believe I need to unlock bootloader first, but again this is a my first doing this and I hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Forum post state that you should follow guides that is exactly the same to the phone you would like to install custom ROMs.
Honestly I would like to ultimately be able to install a recovery mode that works with my phone that I am able to create snapshot image of my stock phone in case anything happens or I would like to go back to my stock image (which I highly doubt if everything goes fine) and install a custom ROM (I know there are different ROMs if someone can point me to where I can check out all the custom ROMs and not necessarily install those custom ROMs that would be awesome) and finally get rid of ATT loading screen when booting up the phone and install a custom boot loading screen, but of course I care more about getting the custom ROM install first.
If anyone can help that would be great.
The bootloader is not locked and using any app or program to unlock the bootloader will probably brick the phone.
The phones bootloader is already unlocked. Only verision s3 has a locked bootloader. Also you need to be in download mode for odin to work
