Hi I'm thinking of buying a tablet to do some art and was thinking of getting a note 10.1 and saw this tablet as a cheaper option, I wanted to know what the responsiveness is like if I wanted to use a stylus with it (dagi stylus looks good)
Do you recommend me holding out for the 10.1 note or buy this as a cheaper option.
I'm very tempted to buy this tablet but don't want to make a mistake.
Think I should have put this in the gen9 general, can someone move it there please?
Are you talking about the 101it ?
Honestly if you can buy a more recent tab I would suggest you to do it (I heard that the Samsung ones are not that bad)
To be honest I'm not that clued up about tablets, I did see there was a g9 10 inch archos which is cheap if I buy from amazon but after reviews I've read about the touchscreen failing and usb port braking and people having to send theirs back the archos doesn't seem too reliable.
I just wanted option of drawing directly onto a tablet instead of a art tablet connected to my usb on my laptop.
You think I should get one? Would using a stylus cause loads of lag while drawing?

I don't know about the gen9 but the gen8 that I own is not that responsive and precise...
It's way behind your galaxy S3 (at least concerning the gen8)
But once again I've never seen a gen9 so I can't tell anything about it
Thanks, think I'm better off saving then. Nothing wrong with seeking out a bargain though but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

I'm guessing the Gen 10 will be good, but honestly, the note tablet would be my first choice for an art tablet because of the s pen. My note phone is great.

Thanks, had a go of the note 10.1 and it was very responsive, had to press a bit hard to register anything but I loved it.
Looks like I've got to do some saving

I own a g9 tablet with a capacitive stylus. The touch screen is very responsive but have a very bad precision...
A Samsung note will be better for art, due to s pen.
But the only true way to do some art is a graphic tablet with a PC or MAC.

Hello all.
I love the ability to play games with a controller on my phone but really hate that I have to hold my phone or put it on a table. So I found a metal plate, measured the controller and made this mount for my phone and controller.
It is very solid and works well. With some paint and an hour of work it will look a little more pro
Happy "modding" your own controller kit

That is a good idea.
Great job.
I like to see when done and painted.

I have a SGSII. The good thing is that you only have to make the mount once and whenever you buy a new phone you just change the cover.
I watched you're video. I was hoping to see a tutorial of you actually making it.
I have a question, How did you attached the metal with the plastic???

The thread and thus the pictures above is about a year old and I have since replaced my SGS2 with a SGS3.
The design makes it easy to replace the cover on the mount to fit a Note (or any other device).
Pictures with the SGS3 can be seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29395051&postcount=197
My mount is my very own private fun-project and thus not for sale and I do not plan to mass produce it, but a new commercial mount have come up, the Gameklip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760595
It cost 15 $ + shipping. The design is rather similar to the one I made (tho a lot more beatyful ). Only disadvantage is that this mount is not universal, and thus do not fit all phones.

It arrived this morning, all working great. Having read a bunch of reviews slating it for tacky build quality, poor camera, etc, I wasn't put off. Those reviews were just picky. It's actually quite solidly built, and very fast. Not bothered about the camera, I have a real digital camera for photos, and my mobile phone as backup. Why would I want to lug my tablet around to take pictures? Bizarre. They could have quite happily left the camera off for all I care.
But anyway, like I said, the 101 G9 Turbo ICS is great! Screen is awesome, apps look brilliant on it.

Because I want a 10" screen, that's why. I may totally jump on the nexus 7 if they are priced good here. But not before a new bigger device. I have been waiting for any information on the g10x but none seems to be around besides the initial release video and hoopla this spring. I wish Archie would give extra info on release date and specs.

Hi all. It's not often that I start a thread around here. Feel free to keep this going for other people looking to spend their gift cards.
So I am between 2 tabs: Nexus 7 and Galaxy 2 7.0.
From what I'm reading, it looks like the specs are a little better on the Nexus but it's really hard to be a deal I found on a refurb Galaxy tab on Amazon ($170).
The lack of expandable storage and HDMI concern me a little with the Nexus but all reports seen to indicate that it's just an incredible device. Plus if I get the Galaxy tab i kind of feel like I'm just getting a bigger version of this phone.... though it does have official cm support.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help with my 1st world problem.

I picked myself up a galaxy 2 7.0 refurb and I'm liking it. Just fyi, look at walmart online because they have it for $150 refurbish. Just check everyday because they restock often. I was thinking about the nexus 7 but two thing hold me off on it: the lift screen problem and the price.
What is the lift screen issue?

I have the 7.0 plus tab and I love it. I bought my dad the nexus 7 16 gig and having played with it its a top notch device. If I were to buy a device from your choices I would pick the nexus but I would get the 32 gig one. I just believe you can never have enough memory. But I do love having an memory card and it makes everything so much easier. You can't go wrong with either device. I think it comes down to personal preference.

I jist got 2 galaxy tab 2 10.1 for me and my oldest son for xmas. I have to say its a great tab for the money I like it alot better than my nexus 7 due to size and my moms nexus 10 which is the same size but is missing a few features in lieu of bigger proc and ram. Which on the tablet you dont notice really since theres not a lot of phone related stuff running in the background. They also have sd slots for expansion

It's just my personal experience. I had the Tab 2 7.0 for about 5 months and now I have the nexus 7 since day 1. I have it mainly for the kids whether playing games or watching movies. I rarely use it for some reading and browsing.
I have to say there is no comparison. Nexus 7 is a LOT better. The screen is way better whether the specs, visibility, brightness or the dirt and finger print collection. Also, the speed and responsiveness. It is a lot faster and the touch is more accurate and responsive.
The tab 2 is better in terms of extra hardware. A microSD slot, a back camera and an HDMI port. So, if you can get past these, you have to get the Nexus.
I have 4 tablets now (well, the HP is now broken) and I never used the back camera except for testing purposes. Another thing is I never ran out of space. Of course this is very subjective. You can have a couple of 2GB games and that would clutter the space. Also, I have a Google TV and a Wii and they are my entertainment center (though not something to brag about).
So, for me, I would say: Definitely go with the nexus.
I never used a Motorola product, so I don't know anything about it. I just like the 7 inches size better than the 10 inches. It is lighter, easier to handle and the battery usually lasts better.
Hope this helps...
My gt2 10.1 is lighter than my kindle fire and barely different from my nexus 7. Having gps on it is nice tho makes turn by turn easy as hell to use while driving since I dont have to strain to see it. Plus the IR blaster is great my tablet now controls my tv, pc and satellite set top box. I dont use my nexus 7 much anymore between my note 2 and gt2 its become obsolete.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
The Nexus 7 without a doubt. I have the 16GB version and I love it. I have used other tablets (Herotab C8, Asus TF 101) and have handled many others, and without a doubt the Nexus 7 is without a doubt the best I have used. Clean, easy to modify, and most of the development work is pretty stable. It is by far the best one going.

My wife has an ipad mini with the logitech keyboard ( http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/ultrathin-keyboard-mini), and the quality of the keyboard is fantastic, as is the bottom of the keyboard which acts as a clam shell case with the ipad.

I like the idea of a portable keyboard but I don't think I could get used to typing on one the same size as the Nexus. If SwiftKey wasn't so good at predicting and making typing faster I would probably try one out though.
Have one of these for my 1st gen N7 and love it, great protection and nice for emergency typing/office work. Will definitely be getting another one when I get my N7 fhd!

I would MUCH prefer something like this, I wish a manufacturer would get on this, as it would be much easier for my work purposes to have a folio style keyboard/case. It's looking grim though, as the 1st gen. Nexus 7 still doesn't have something like this. Apple gets all of the nice accessories
This looks cool, but in the product description, it says that there's no tab key. In the photos, there's a tab key but no escape key. These keys are both important for console work. Which is actually missing?

I have a keyboard that looks exactly like that one for my Nexus 7 2012, and it has the TAB key but no ESC key. I use an App from the Play Store called "External Keyboard Helper" that suppresses the internal pop-up keyboard when the BlueTooth keyboard is connected and also allows remapping the keyboard, so that the ESC key can fairly easily be added.
Very helpful Dave. Thanks.

Just arrived today. Bluetooth connection works with no issues.
The top is all plastic with aluminum "color" trim with the bottom being a rubber type material.
Similar in style (clam case?) to the Logitech/Belkin keyboards for the ipad mini but certainly NOT the same quality of material...although it is less than 1/2 the price.
I like the rubber backing, it is lightweight and feels good when closed.
The keyboard layout is different than minisuit's alternative keyboard case (book style) and appears not as wide,
the Nexus 7 can't stand in portrait mode,
edging around the keyboard interferes with my typing,
awkward to open due to the clasp style,
no dedicated "search" or "app" button,
there is a tab key and a home key.
Personally, I found it very difficult to type accurately and I'm experienced in using similar type keyboards for the ipad mini (same width as the N7).
http://www.minisuit.com/p-2016-bluetooth-keyboard-stand-case-for-google-nexus-7-fhd-2013-rubberized-non-slip-grip.aspx
Think I'll be looking for other bluetooth keyboard solutions...maybe minisuit's other keyboard case which I think is a bit wider in key layout.
Would be nice if Google(or whoever made the final call on that) would have allowed Asus to make a keyboard dock for the N7 FHD just like their Transformer line of tablets. The N7 FHD would had to have used the proprietary Asus charge/sync port instead of the standard micro usb port, and also have had the slots for locking the keyboard dock in to place. Those things would probably have raised the price though, so I'm assuming that's why they didn't go that route. Regardless, it would have been cool to have that option for those who want it. Personally I wouldn't use it, so it's no big deal to me. I had the Asus Prime and Asus keyboard dock made for it, but never used it. I didn't even buy the keyboard dock for my Infinity when it came out. That said, I'm happy with my N7 FHD just the way it is.
I'm not sure if Windows has a patent on their magnetic latching keyboard docks (I haven't looked in to that info at all), but it would be awesome if future Android tablets would have that functionality! I know the Asus Infinity successor uses the same latching style for it's keyboard dock as its predecessors, unfortunately, but it would be awesome if all Asus tablets after the New Infinity would use the magnetic latching! That is about the only thing about the newer Windows tablets that I like. Like isn't really correct for that. I love that feature/function, and I'm totally jealous that my Asus Infinity can't do that! Lol

Why would you want to? The only reason I could make up is a smaller screen if you don't like the big screen, but if you liked it, you'll definitly miss the note 2. Plus that the note 2's battery life is higher than the Z's.
As I heard that Sony Xperia Z has poor battery life but generally it's great phone
I thought about it too at some point. But I've just gotten too use to the screen size of the note 2 along with the Spen. I also like the fact that it's easier to repair and I can order a full housing for the note 2 for dirt cheap.

Both are nice phones but personally id go for Samsung everytime with the extra features> Spen, Airview, OTG / MHL, groupshare etc
Wait for Note 3 / Xperia Z *ultra*. If you want a large screen and a stylus that is.
I think the closest to the Xperia Z from Samsung is the S4 active so you may want to take a look if you want a smaller phone and don't use the stylus.
Of course, like most people in this forum I like Samsung but these new Xperia phones look nice too. Also, surprisingly for Sony, they seem to treat developers well (unlockable bootloader + exemplary GPL complience).
