[Q] OTA updates or odin flash - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
An urgent question came to my mind & I couldn't find an answer to it .
As we all know Samsung devices has two or more ways to upgrade their software
Either by OTA & KIES which will keep the user data & preferences or the Odin which will wipe the cache & data .
My question is which way will guarantee better performance & battery life ? Because I feel my mobile battery started to get drained more than the usual . note : I updated through OTA from ALJ1 to ALJ3
& thank u for your co-op

Flashing a full stock rom with Odin is imo always better than flashing an OTA or Kies update to start with. After the flash a data/factory reset is also recommended to avoid lag`s or fc`s. Hope this helps you

Thank you man , I hope u are sure about that

1 --> use triangle away to reset your binary count
2 --> in triangle away choose reset than reboot in download mod
3 --> flash 4.1.2 rom via odin
or you can use kies to revert back to original stock rom, but kies will install latest rom witch is 4.3 (step 1 & 2 is must)
if you want to use kies read this
Tnx man.
Triangle away is not important to me,can I just flash 4.1.2 over(now I am on Ditto n3) 4.3via Odin?
Tnx

You can flash it via Odin, but from my experience, these stability updates are utter flop, better you go back to old 4.1.2. I accept 4.2.2 is rich with features, but it will kill your battery and phone
revert back to 4.1.2 i say ..thats if you want your phone unrooted...otherwise use the deodexed roms or aosp 4.4.2 roms....they have excellent battery backups and loads of features at lesser ram usage than official 4.2.2
Or simply install gennxt rom mahn..
Root the device..use gennxt rom (which is cooler and modified version of stock origional rom obvious)..
Just try it..many ppl say gennxt got superior battery life..hope i helped

thanks to all...
now my machine is working fine
and i found out this changes
audio quality insanely increased (viper fx) :victory:
battery backup increased a lil bit
but it becomes slower sometimes
and antutu benchmark score decreased from 8000+ to 6000+
does any one have any preference for some better performance???
thanks in advance...

Try to be in power saving mode as it doesn't affect your performance much!!.. And it also saves your battery to some extent!

I didn't install any new apps. I just upgraded to 4.4.2 using OTA update couple of days back and since then the battery doesn't seem to last for more than 5-6 hours for the same usage that got me 8-10 hours or more before upgrading. No particular app seems to be causing the drain based on battery stats and I have been pulling my hair like crazy trying to figure out the problem

Try this. Full charge. Then unplug. Let sit for 3 hours or so. What I do is before bed I unplug it then I look and see what the drain will be. You might new to factory reset and start over. 4.3 upgrade to 4.4 is not good without factory wipe. Some apps still got bugs for 4.4

This is the Q&A thread for x-note. In the OP you will find all the links to download the ROM and make it compatible with tmobile. FYI the newest Civz-snapkat kernel is now 2.6 not 2.1 but you will need to Google it to find out exactly where to get the zip if you want the newer version of the kernel.

I don't have a specific link for some of my tutorial but A Google or youtube search should suffice. But I will give you the basic steps. That being said my way of rooting will trip Knox and more than likely void your warranty. For the programs I list just do a Google search and you should find them easy enough.
1. install Odin 3.09 or 3.07 to your computer
2. Flash your custom recovery (I prefer twrp) via Odin
3. Flash your custom ROM from your external sd card or, SuperSU if you only want to obtain root while staying on the stock ROM, from the recovery. (if you are not familiar with flashing roms let me know and I will give you the steps.)
After these steps your phone should be rooted.
Note: I found that after the 4.4 update when attempting to boot into recovery you have to let go of your buttons as soon as you see the blue words "recovery booting" or something like that at the top left of your screen.

Hey there, I just upgraded to 4.4.2 coming from 4.3 I had great battery life in 4.3 but when I switched over to 4.4.2 my batter life is terrible as well.. I am also rooted and have used app quarantine to freeze some apps to see if I can get some more battery life out of it and no luck. I did a straight Ota update by going to stock 4.3 then updating then rooting 4.4 the only thing I haven't done is a factory reset which will be my next step!

I have heard that after flashing official 4.4 you should factory reset to help the ROM settle and that should improve the battery life.

No you will not face any problem, but keep in mind that flashing firmware can trip KNOX status to 0x1 and warranty will be void but your device status will remain OFFICIAL. It will not change to modified or custom.

Sorry, I not sure about dalvic. You have custom recovery...? If you are flashing stock firmware with Odin, your custom recovery will change to stock recovery and you can also factory reset and wipe after flashing. Actual reason to reset and wipe is to remove junk files.

There you go Daniel answered your concern. Just cause other users faced an issue doesn't mean you would face the same. Battery life is subjective. Some are getting great battery life some are getting less than 4.1.2

4.4.2 my opinion about kitkat is that it feels slim so less battery draining i think
advice you to upgrade to kitkat 4.4.2 .. fast and very good and less ram usage
How can I find on Sammobile 4.4.2 firmware..For Croatia (Tmobile) or non branded?
