I was wondering.. What did majority of the people that own a SIII, buy it for? I was talking to a guy at a Verizon stand about the GSIII and he was talking about how much he hated touchwiz, and how much it slowed down the OS (have to agree compared to stock android), but his only reason to buy this phone was to root it and put CM10 on it. And that was his whole argument on why he would get it. I love touchwiz since my Vibrant. I love all of the features and its looks. I love how it advanced from touchwiz 4 to this. It's fantastic to see this change. I bought my GSIII because I have had the two Galaxy S phones before this. If I wanted stock android, I would have gotten the Galaxy Nexus.
Now please, tell me why did you got your Galaxy SIII?

Hey guys. Long story short I've ended up with a large amount of money. Essentially, i will return to Samsung. Its a matter of which device. I love the s3 touchwiz ux, and want that immensely. The s3 is obviously the big choice here, but being a college student I'd like to save... so I'm a bit confused.
Essential if there will be a good stable rom/port of the s3 software, i may buy the nexus.
Thoughts?

Hello first I would like to thank you for taking the time to view my thread, it means a lot to me. I appreciate the community. I will cut to the chase.
I am thinking about adding a new line to my plan for my little sister. She is currently on MetroPCS and we figured I could save more by adding a plan to my line (about 15 bucks)
What made this so enticing is that I could possibly upgrade my phone and give her my current phone. I currently have a t-mobile hercules galaxy s2 and I love it. I have owned it for 8 months and its just been so great. Never had an issue and then flashed a rom that made it perfect.
I don't know what to do... should I upgrade and get the Samsung Galaxy s3 and give my younger sister my S2?? She is 15 and I was planning on giving her the Blaze 4G but the development for that phone is rubbish.
She has saved 150 for her new phone so I would just have to pay the rest.
What would you do?
Edit: Can I somehow transfer my text messages from my s2 to my s3 with titanium backup???????
Get the s3

Ditch the s2 mate. The s3 is better in every way possible. Actually the one thing I think the t989 wins in is aesthetics. The s3 is a bad ass phone but I don't like the way it looks. To me it looks like a miniature Samsung TV.. and I think Samsung TVs are ugly. Just my 2 cents lol

If you can get an s3 for (effectively) $40, go for it. While I'm happy with my s2, I wanted the s3. I just couldn't justify the extra $120 over the s2.

Let me start off by saying the s3 is a great phone Ive had 3 of them but if you look at them wrong you will break the glass. Im very careful with my phones but somehow i managed to break 2 of the screens in 2 weeks. Do a search on it, it seems to be a real common thing. Also development is a little slow for it, seems like the tmobile version is like the red headed step child of the variants. I ended up selling the 3rd one I got and came back to the s2 with no regrets.
S3 looks terrible and is fragile. Though it does have advantages I still like my s2 better

I agree with the stepchild reference. If you can get an S3 just get it and enjoy your new toy. Quite sure if you dont like it you can switch out with your family member.

How do you figure the T-Mobile version is like the red headed stepchild out of the variants? It's the only one who's had a JB leak thus development is picking up rapidly.

The tmobile s2 is the read headed stepchild of its variants. The tmobile s3, on the other hand, is the same as its variants. But it has had a JB leak so it has better development than the others.

Funny how we were saying the same thing about the tmobile vibrant (original galaxy s and only variant to not get gingerbread). For whatever reason, Samsung and t mobile have a history of treating their galaxy variants like red headed stepchildren.
Can we really be surprised if the trend continues?

I uhhh.. find that very hard to believe. The CPU in the iPhone 4s and upcoming i5 run circles around the old s3 chip in this phone. Not trying to defend Apple or anything but the CPU in the t989 is a boat compared to the normal exynos 4 in the other GSIIs.

I'm considering going from my GS2 to the GS3 and would like some opinions of those who did the same. How does the AOKP rom compare? Is rooting about the same process? Are the features worth it? I saw somewhere the talk time is like 22 hours (if true). How does battery life compare? Thanks for your input. ^_^

I came from an s2 and the s3 is better in every way. More roms and better devs. I can tell u my battery life is much improved over my s2. I have never had to recharge my s3 during the day unless I nandroid 3 times and flash/ttbu restore 3 times. I wouldn't say the features are out of this world better but it is a lot faster. Using my wife's s2 is almost impossible now because of the lag I didn't see before I got the s3. There are a ton of aokp or cm10 based ROMs and a lot of fantastic stock ROMs as well....you will flash things the same way as you did on the s2. Its all super easy. I highly recommend the s3. One thing nice is a working built in backlight notification that was finicky at best on the s2. Get it, I couldn't imagine anyone regretting it. Unless they are a troll of course.

I would not get a phone with an Exynos processor after what codeworkx said about it, but that's just me.
Also, not sure how many ROMs you are looking for. There's a bunch of TouchWiz, there's CM10, AOKP, MIUI (still WIP), and some other AOSP-derived ROMs.
Thats what they said when att got note I. Go check the note I development and you will see how vivid it is +devs are waiting the release of stable jellybean. And idk what you mean by dead, we got every possible rom that exists around xda community. If you are a flash addict then that is your problem. But the best kernel dev has a galaxy s3(faux) + we got cyanogen also. As it regard touchwiz there is not much to dev about it cuz sammy did really well. Reread your post. You said that the s3 dev community is dead. And keep in mind that note 2 grabs only the attention of maybe 20% of the buyers cuz most of them do not like something that is that huge. Plus do some research. Its processor is old technology uses a9. When a15 comes out then yes you can call it an upgrade.

No way I would get a Note. Way to big and I have big hands. Just no reason for it.
When buying my S3, rep had what I thought was a tablet streaming music off it. He said it was the Note 1 and sat it down next to the S3 and I was like I am amazed at how many people use this as a phone. He told me he never uses it as a phone, rather an entertainment device. Had an Apple as his regular phone, lol!
Biggest I would go is....maybe 5", but honestly feel 4.8" is the sweet spot for guys with decent sized hands. Girls 4.3" should suffice.
I honestly believe the phablets will be a thing of the past in less than a couple years, maybe even sooner.

Not note 2 for me. Phone looks great but I think is too much for me, I thought this phone was too big at first. The only thing it help was that I had a galaxy nexus and evo lte, I don't think 5 inches will be comfortable to use but who knows, I never thought I was going to get bigger then 4.3 (back on 2010 with original evo) and here we are now ha ha
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
4.8 is def a sweet spot, but at times it can be a chore reaching your thumb towards the top of the screen while using it one handed. Most people use bluetooth ear devices anyway so phonewise its not a huge concern with size

I'd prefer the Galaxy S3. I was drooling over the Note 2 at first, but I did some more research and the Galaxy S3 is a better size, price, and overall phone for me.
It is super hard to get aosp ROMs going on exynos based devices...Samsung doesn't like to release there source and drivers for there soc and when they do it is to late and outdated. Omap and Qualcomm are great at releasing s#it
I have a feeling there will be a lot of tw based ROMs for the N2. Maybe one or two hacked up aosp ROMs

I think it's safe to assume most people that have moved from a Nexus to an S3 wouldn't continue to lurk in the Nexus forums. Probably best to ask in the S3 forums :good:
I love my Nexus and will always stay Nexus for the stock Android experience and abundance of ROMs. That said though I did try a S3 4g/LTE model today and was MIGHTY impressed with how snappy it was with Jellybean.
I've been tempted several times. Its the physical buttones that are holding me back.
I recently had the chance to get it myself. But I couldn't do it. I was looking at the aosp development, and from what I'm used to it was weak. I could live with touchwiz but I just don't like it. The physical keys where also a downer. Just something I wouldn't like to give up. And since i already have a quad core tablet there really was nothing besides a better camera and even then the gnex camera is pretty good I don't listen to what others say I know what I've seen it do.

The latest Touchwiz is pretty bad. I had TW ICS on my tab2 and just recently we got TW JB on the tab2. I don't know if the SGS3 will get something similar but this latest version of TW JB on my Tab 2 is slow, the browser force closes and the interface has been changed for the worst. The ICS version of TW was better than this newest version they have released.

I have both and most of the time use my s3 for the battery life. If I want to try something new or interesting I'll usually do it on the nexus. As far as bad aosp goes I'm not sure what you're smoking, we get nightly cm10 builds consistently. I'm currently running the m2 release and it's perfectly suitable for every day use. Prior to this I was running paranoid and it was great. M2 just has better battery life. Also while they do get worse battery life than touch wiz it's still better than my nexus.

Well a lot of people I know have the s3. A lot.
Anyway...I've had a lot of opportunities to play with it. It is very very very fast first and foremost!
I've mostly played with the ICS versions. So smooth and a real joy to use. The nature UX is also very nice. Its one of the best android skin I've used from any OEM I think. They finally moved away from trying to mimic the IOS look and feel with the UI which is good.
I've tried the jellybean version of the s3 just once and to be honest I could not tell a big difference. That's because the s3 is awesome with speed and responsiveness even with ICS.
The screen is excellent also, and the feel and look of the handset in the hand is nice. It looks a lot like the galaxy nexus with buttons.
I would not move to the s3 as a full time replacement for the galaxy nexus however. Simple reason being that I had the galaxy note and waiting for ICS and Jellybean was not my thing.
I'm too comfortable with quick stock updates from my nexus s days. Plus the main reason also...the galaxy nexus is insanely fast and smooth already!
