OK, so we all pretty much know that using Resource Hacker you can dig some of the PNGs used by the Start Menu out of imageres.dll, but as noted in other threads, removing or replacing them doesn't actually affect anything.
Where are the PNGs used by the Start Menu actually held because even imageres.dll does not hold all of the colour combinations that are available. I originally thought Microsoft was clever enough to just have one master raster image for each and then use palette rotations for the different colours, but alas they weren't even clever enough to use just one SIZE for each image.
Where are the PNGs???
The PNG's are in imageres.dll. My ModernBck changer apply the images in imageres.dll png resoruces.
Microsoft use 3 sie-images for the dpi option
There are same image with different color, because microsoft to get the best quality when any colors are selected.
The question is: which process block imageres.dll?
I have not found every image in every colour in imageres.dll, so is Microsoft actually using palette rotation, then?

If you look this image, you can see that this three images look similar, but they change in color combination.
The red one haver back color, the pink one have white color, the last one haven't got black or white color.
There isn't all combination, because colors do (in groups) a different effect for each background.
Some backgrounds (for example backgrounds from CP version) looks good with all colors.
Howevwr, in my opinion, Microsoft could do better than this solution...

My imageres.dll has the pink, the yellow and a blue of that image but not a red. So where does the red version come from? Or the green ones? Or the grey?
Ops, the red one was done by me, sorry
There are blue, yellow and pink of this background.
Other colors were generated by Windows 8...

Hi,
I did not found any simple black or dark gray themes without a background picture for wm6. So I made them. I made 6 new themes:
DarkGray1 - the brightest gray
DarkGray2
DarkGray3
DarkGray4
DarkGray5 - the darkest gray
DarkBlack

The only weak point is, that after installing and using them, the Status and Notification Bar is unfortunatelly not really dark. But to make them a little bit darker you can use the RC Mod tool.
You can find the themes attached or here: http://nihil0.tar.hu/
Best regards.

Nice job, thank you! I'll give it a try
That digital clock is the Samsung Clock.
Search around for that - i think it exists in this forum somewhere?
What nihil0 posted above was just themes and is not inclusive of other software.
Wasn't quite sure of the correct forum to put this one, so I hope this is all right.
I'm taking a stab at creating my own theme and using ThemeGenCE to do it. It's pretty slick and I've been able to figure out most of it, but there are a couple of things that have me stumped...
How do you change the text color in Start Menu items?
How do you change the softkey button and text color?
How do you change the task panel text color?
As for the start menu thing, it's particularly frustrating because I can make the change in the program, but it never seems to "take" on my phone, except for the word "Start" in the titlebar. The menu items themselves stay the same color. The file is getting saved correctly, judging my the timestamp, but the start menu color settings don't seem to have taken.
Peculiarly, though, the highlighted start menu items have taken (but now refuse to change to anything else!) I'm sure it's just a step that I'm missing somewhere.
Thanks!
AJ
Here's an example of what I'm talking about with the inconsistency. ThemeGenCE shows the start menu font in a gold color, but the actual result on the windows mobile device has a black font...which doesn't work well with my theme
Any help is appreciated.

Update...
I've tried a few things now and I have some curious results to report.
One, I've discovered that the colors in the start menu appear to remain as whatever they were the last time the start menu theme was successfully changed. That is, if I install the Windows Default green theme, then install my theme, a highlighted menu item is still black text on a green background, even though ThemeGen clearly shows it should be gold text on a grey background.
I also have tried a demo version of Thememaker M. I imported the theme generated by ThemeGen and found that the menu text and the softkeys were colored just as I had expected them to be, but re-generating the theme and copying it to my device resulted in the same them...the colors didn't take for these elements, nor for the volume bubble or the task list. This indicates that the issue is with the device rather than the theme creators.
Has anyone else experienced this? Can you provide insight on how to get past it? This is getting pretty frustrating as it's my first serious attempt to create a theme for my device.
Thanks!
AJ
This was my first idea for a theme. Which I'm making, in most part, for my girlfriend who I like to call Peach. The idea came from a signature picture I made years ago for her for a forum and I thought it would be a pleasant surprise to bring it back in the theme. I used that very siggy as the wallpaper and most of the colors picked out using the eye dropper.
This is very much so a work in progress. I'm looking for opinions and feedback. It's my first theme. The wallpaper I will need to change. The siggy was alot smaller than I remembered and I had to stretch it to fit. May recreate it. The clock and the tab at the bottom are not of my own work. They are from the Glossy Minimalism theme. (the theme I currently use.) I used its update.zip when I was figuring out where things were and creating. I do plan to change them both.
Edit: Peches is now ready for download but still incomplete as far as I'm concerned. I cant figure out why I cant get the notification bar (during/after pull down) to change colors. Clock still needs to be changed as well as menu tab. I also have plans to change the notifications, Edge and 3G, Battery and Signal icons. Enjoy and please give me feed back. If you think I should include anything let me know.

good start sir. something i would use. not too sure about font, but still worth using. wish there was an icon pack for apps commonly downloaded like chomp and my backup to match the rest of the stock apps.
I've been meaning to change my font for a while. Thanks for the reminder.
Looks good I like the story behind it.
The left side of the notification bar blinds me. Maybe instead of a white > peach gradient use a lighter peach to a darker peach? I just can't look at the status bars left side. The icons are nice and simple. Don't really have much else to say.

I'm feeling that theme good job..
when is it available for download?
Availablity?
Its still very much unfinished. So far I've made very few changes and the icons shown are the only ones I've done so far. I should have the rest of the stock app icons done by tonight along with a few other things. I'll make it available by tomorrow at the latest but again, its still unfinished as far as I'm concerened.
Btw, she loves it ^ ^
Dude, the font rawks.
Hi there,
i am fairly new to the HTC and Android scene. Yesterday i got my HTC One X and the very first i noticed is a problem with the contrast.
Especially when it goes from grey to black, there are blocks visible. It is a bit difficult to make a photo of this issue, but i think you can see it clearly.
Is this a known issue? Can i do something about that?

Many thanks.
That's not contrast.
That is an image that seems to either compression artifacts or was produced with too little bit depth.
There's nothing wrong with the phone, it is faithfully reproducing a crappy image.
This was just an example. It shows the menu of a program (i think google maps).
I have also some photos that look the same where a black area goes into a brighter area.
Also some of dark HTC widgets, like the clock show this.
Like i said, difficult to make a photo of this issue:
Any problems viewing this?
Probably you mean these horizontal stripes. They are there when you look at the angle, but when you look straight, they are not there. I guess this is a problem due to technology used and it looks the same on mine One X. Also, AFAIR there are two different displays used in HOX, both from different manufactures and one of them doesn't have this problem but there are some other minor problems like smaller contrast or brightness, can't exatcly remember right now. It also annoys me but generally it is still the best phone screen I've ever seen and somehow I can get over it

these widgets in particular, and a lot of other things are supposed to change colour gradients, the notification bar being another.
just makes it look more fancy/3d
personally i don't think you have any problems except for the colour depth of the image not being enough, and that is why you see that, if there was more depth, then more detail and you wouldn't see that blocking
try switch your pc to a lower colour depth and youll see the exact same effect.

Thanks. I had the same idea and it looks normal. I also upgrade it to CM10 which does not have these grey to black transitions at all.
So no problem there, just poor graphics by HTC.
Thanks
Hey guys,
I have been on WP7 for a few months and really missed the MattedBlues theme from my android. Using Metro Theme I was able to make a metro style version. I used the same hex colors as the mattedblues team to change a few colors and I am happy with the out come.
1.) If you have Metro Theme change the color scheme to Ken Chan Grey then reboot. You must be using Dark and not Light as background.
2.) In Metro Theme swipe over to custom and change the hex# to #FF73B6D6 then select Text Neutral Color. You will be prompt to reboot (Don't just yet)
Next change the hex# to #FF3D80A0 and select Contrast colors. and reboot.
3.) Now to make the tiles match open up Metro Theme find a color you don't like or could live without by entering a number in the top left box pressing select. numbers go from 1-10.
Then type #FF3D80A0 into the box next to the copy here box and then copy it in to the copy here box. Type MattedBlues in the top right and save accent.
4.) Now in the themes menu in your settings you should see MattedBlues. select and you're good to go.

Added the screen shots to the first post.
The email uses the light theme by default so to get it to match you follow the same steps but under the color picker box select Light before editing colors. should come out like this.
