Stock keyboard doesn't support this. Maybe some custom rom made this happen, but doubtful and I don't know.
Best bet is to try the 3rd party keyboard alternatives, as one of them might. What happened to your touch screen?

Not that I know of. No third party app support xperia play's gamepad as a supported keyboard yet.

Hi, Would it be possible to create a mod to remove the software menu button in apps and set long pressing task switcher button as a menu button.
The menu button looks ugly in alot of apps and wastes screen space. Diceplayer, youtube, opera browser and alot of other apps and games which I think probably will never have the menu button removed.
It's just really offputting to watch a 16:9 video that is only compatible with diceplayer to have black borders just because the menu button is making the screen smaller.
+1
I think there isn't a single soul that won't agree with your sugestion.
+2 .
I'm with you.

Guys the only way this will happen is if enough people ask HTC to do this.

We should mass-email them.
Yours truly.
Would it even be possible to remap the hardware keys in a custom ROM? Because if yes, it would be great to make the task switcher button the menu button and make ling press home the task switcher .

Use MX Video Player, it hides the software buttons on my nexus

I think it's apps developer that needs to have a fixed for this issue more than HTC. I've already emailed a couple of them to get their attention.
App developers must understand hardware buttons are here to stay. Looking at xperia s, the only reason it doesn't have the issue is because it used menu as physical button instead of the multitask button. Otherwise we will also see the same issue there.
Btw, on xperia s, long-pressing of home button to show multitask will be pain slow compared to using the physical multitask button like we have in one X.

This worked for me http://thistechiegirl.com/2013/01/0...-navigation-button-and-disable-hardware-keys/
This is getting annoying!
I've installed Smart Keyboard PRO, and I am unable to select this as the default keyboard.
Usually I long press in a text box to select an alternative keyboard but it is not working. Any ideas?
Go into settings, language and keyboard to activate your other keyboard.
Then when using the normal keyboard you can swipe down from status bar and select input method.
Hope this makes sense.

i had already activated but didn't know to swipe down!
thanks a million
for you
First, install the keyboard and enable it in keyboard settings (slide to "on").
Second, when you are actually typing in a textbox of some sort, there should be a keyboard notification up at the top of the screen - if you select it, it will let you choose input, and you can select which keyboard to use.
Smart Keyboard Pro is fantastic for typing but horrible for predicting/fixing mistakes
Don`t forget to push thanks
Just curious while we're at this subject, I find the stock HTC keyboard in HOX to be weak in predicting as well. Have seen Galaxy Nexus's stock ICS keyboard instead and would prefer that.
Is there a way I can use the stock ICS keyboard on HOX? If yes, how can I download the stock ICS keyboard and install for use?

Hi.
Is there some possibility, to activate arrow-keys (left, right, up, down) in the codefireX keyboard, as in the htc-sense-keyboard ?
Also: How do I hide the keyboard on some input-field ? HTC-original has a key bottom left to hide it !
Thanks
Micha_he
e.g.: The 'HTC_IME MOD v30' does not work unfortunately with JB4.2 !
No, but codefireX has an option to enable left and right keys in the navbar (if you enable it) and/or use volume keys to move the cursor left/right. If you must have all direction keys in the keyboard, use a keyboard that has the feature like SwiftKey or SwiftKey Flow Beta (if you want swiping).
To hide the keyboard in an input field, just press back.

Ok. I will wait for a new version of "HTC IME MOD"-keyboard.

Lol. I'd suggest you try SwiftKey Flow. It's a million times better than the HTC keyboard.

Ok, ok. I'll take a look to SwiftKey Flow. But the video and the screenshots i have found, show no cursor-keys
I've had a look to 'SwiftKey Flow Beta'. It's right, you can add the cursor-keys at the bottom of the keyboard, under the config-options.
Thanks to sashank....

Many of the 3rd party keyboards in the Play Store have an option to add arrow keys. Another really nice one, if you don't need gesture typing, is Smart Keyboard Pro.
Hey
Just wondering if anyone has come across a ROM where you can disable the touch buttons down the bottom of the phone and their lights and just use the on screen ones?
Cheers

Why would you want that? It takes up screensize!
And I don't know if it's posible cause I think Android checks for hardware buttons (although they are soft-touch )
You can enable them in the probam rom, not sire of you can disable the soft keys though
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Thanks guys. Same as my experience. Just wondering if there was anyway to disable them all together..
Is there a way to replace the home key whit the left touch key button?
Otherwise, do you know any Rom for s4 mini that do that?
I found it much confortable to close open apps/windows
EDIT: Im on CM13 right now.

I mean the left touch button located on the s4 mini phone.
I would like to click it instead of the center button to show open apps and close them. Like new android phones do.

Apparentely it's possible to put the virtual buttons inside the phone screen..but not to change the actual touch buttons.
It's a valid alternative, but not what i'm looking for btw thanks for the support @rookie12 !
