thanks anyway. So maybe U know if the wrong serial can be the reason that i can't find any networks GSM, and can't choose my language, like i always could, when i flash official ROM (WWE - with Polish language)?

To try to fix the upper useless post:
"The device serial number (as reported by 'adb devices') appears to be set in the kernel, under arch/arm/plat-s5p/devs.c (look for 'device_serial'). This may be different for your device, I'd suggest a grep through the kernel sources for the device ID that is reported by adb devices. Change the string, rebuild the kernel and flash it on...
Looks to be different on ICS by the way..."
edit: you need a dev to give you an answer. If adb uses s/n to verify the phone, and it does, rom dependables wouldn't be a surprise.
Have you tried to play a bit in adb?

I tried to find device_serial and similar in kernel sources (different kernels) but no success. What do you mean with 'Have you tried to play a bit in adb?"

Just wondering if there's an option inside adb to modify...but don't have the knowledge to support you directly.

Problem with IMEI

I've made a search, and i didn´t find anything about this:
Anytime we install a new rom the imei changes, I'm i correct?
Anyway to go back to old imei? The imei changes and the programs with serials don't answer anymore. I can't ask for new serials anytime i make some changes. The sellers are already saying i'm crazy!!!
Is that possible to keep the same Imei every time we change rom.
Thank you. Help will be apreciated

I believe that mun_rus rom holds the IMEI
the IMEI does not change, the last 2 digits which indicate the firmware revision change... these are NOT part of the physical IMEI

How do you explain, everytime a change rom, the program tells me it's not registered? I have to ask for new serials to access the program.
What can i do to avoid that?

Are you certain that the programs are using the IMEI as the key for the serial number check?
In my experience most Windows Mobile programs use the device name as the key - as they are usually designed to run on phone and non-phone devices (which don't have a IMEI).
So after you re-install the program try changing the device name to the same as it was previously and then enter your original serial number.

Thank you antzzz. I'll try that
which program?
some programs use the user name or the device ID itself.
The device ID can change according to the ROM.
I have fist hand experience with this in TomTom Traffic - flashing every WM6 ROM except mUn's TE changed the device ID from the original WM5 one.

any chance to avoid that? Or restore the previous ID?
no- the device ID is set by the ROM and some iteraction with the phone.
You have to go back to a ROM with the same ID. For Me mUns TE for WM6 had the same Device ID as WM5 which came with the phone.
All other WM6 ROMs give another device ID (and I heard that some give a new ID randomly after hard reset! Awful bug.
how does one read their device id so i could know if it changed after a flash?

unknown Baseband( no network,no imei)

Sir, i flashed my nexus with AOSP rom(4.0.3),everything works well for several hours.but yesterday my phone shows error no service,i tries several sim card but facing same issue.so i tried imei no and guess what it shows nothing.... i checked baseband shows unknown. so i flashed stock rom via cwm (restore),but unfortunately facing same problem. so i flashed few baseband images also but not workrd either. plz help me how should i get my imei number back..... i have no backup file of my EFS folder.
First off, don't call me sir
I've been seeing alot of the same issue and no one seems to have a solid lead on the real problem.
And yes, it has happened to me.
My opinion is that flashing *some* roms is causing the bootloader to become corrupted...as this is exactly the issue I had experienced.
A fubar'd bootloader will screw everything up.
The solution for me was to odin back to stock.
Since you did not state if your gnex is gsm or cdma I am not going to attempt to post directions or even file names for you (you can easily search for odin and get them here in this forum). The directions are completely different depending on the gsm/cdma thing.
Be careful and make sure you have the right version of odin and the correct files to flash. It's actually pretty simple, but it's always the simple things that are easiest to get wrong.
g'luck

There's no 4.0.3 images for the gnex, at least official ones.

I had this issue as well. I couldn't get the gnex (GSM) to show up in Odin to even start flashing anything so the only thing I could do was send it in to Samsung.

What methods have you tried to return the device back to stock? You can try fastbooting back to stock which is fairly simple you would just need some knowledge of ADB and must have the Android SDK installed to do so. You can also use ODIN to do this or Heimdall depending on whether you are using Windows, Mac, or Linux. Feel free to PM if you would like some help with this!

Try copying these files from /factory to /data/radio:
nv_data.bin
nv_data.bin.md5
And set the permissions to 700.

I use fastboot, and don´t have luck. EFS partition contents exist, but i don´t have imei or baseband detected. I install google jellybean
Same happened to my GNex after flashing miui 2.11.16.
Common sense suggests that the rom, which doesn't include a radio, shouldn't be the reason for the unknown imei and unknown baseband fault.
This has also happened to others of whom most, including me, indicated flashing the updated recovery either twrp 2.3.2.1 or cwm 6.0.1.5/6 which were rolled out for android 4.2 compatibility.
I went back to stock 4.1.2 everything... GNex Tool and ODIN methods, but the problem remained: still UNKNOWN IMEI and UNKNOWN Baseband.
Common symptom to this fault is the phone/os thinks that Flight Mode is ON. Closer inspection in hidden menu phone information (*#*#4636#*#*) clearly shows the radio alternating On/Off continuously... all suggested tricks to set band to gsm manual or auto failed.
I have also tried the OMAP_Flash tool recently leaked from smsng team... it works as described (fix boot partition) but it wouldn't fix this problem.
Those suggesting it's a hardware fault are simply "just saying" but there's no actual prove or method to such a conclusion.
I'm leaning more to believe the cause to be a bug in the updated custom recoveries for android 4.2.
Hope this helps anyone trying to find a fix.... if you find a fix, please PM me
... and for now, i'm using my good old galaxy s i9000 <= will give it to anyone successfully helps us to fix the GNex

I'm in the same situation, only flashing 4.0.4 firmware Imei and baseband are shown, but no signal...
I really don't know if it's just a solvable software problem or it's an hardware one!
Thanks for any news!!!!

similar problem, but unlike dhuberto, not able to get imei back with any version of a stock image using any method.
My radio keeps going FLIGHT MODE on then off then on continuously... I have tried several apps to force gsm off (turn off radio) to no avail.
I personally still think it is not a hardware issue. Maybe it's me just hoping!
I have reasons to slightly believe that it was caused by a bad custom recovery code while doing fix permissions.
I am still researching and I will update once there's some news, good or bad.

[Q] Help absolutely needed ! HTC One X

Hello people.
I have a serious issue here.
I flashed some custom Roms and went back to stock Rom several times, i have CWM Recovery installed, Terminal emulator etc. and today when i typed in *#06# my IMEI resembles nothing like the original one.
I restored my nandroid backup - no luck, i restored using RUU - no luck, tried everything - no luck getting it back.
I read stuff at several places, and everywhere is stated "you should back up your 'efs' folder", where is that folder located ? I searched and searched and HAVE searched (when my IMEI was normal) but a folder named 'efs' or something like that does not exist on my phone (just don't know where it is..)
I want to have my IMEI back, but as i said - nothing works.. flashing boot images via cmd, custom roms, stock roms, wiping data, ruu's, NOTHING !
I have my IMEI because i kept the box that i got the phone with and i don't know why, but at some point it seems that i have written it down on a piece of paper so yeah, i have my original IMEI.
My question is, where to look (root folders etc.), what programs do i have to use, what files do i have to get, which files do i have to edid and via what program, so that i can get my IMEI on that damn phone ?
P.S. i went to the place where i got it - they offer no exchange (even if i wasn't rooted) and they offer no help whatsoever.
Thank you for reading.
I think writing IMEI is impossible without S-OFF... I wonder how the hell could it even change from the original.
How about you do fastboot getvar all and see if the IMEI is still weird.
do u have signal? do u flash custom kernel? just reflash the module of custom kernel and it will come again

I have seen posts about missing imei ..... it is unlikely to return after a flash. Some say its possible writing the imei with a jtag solution !
The last post i read about missing imei was that he returned the phone to a repair shop

This is such a pain..
Oh and btw, when i said "all messed up' i meant, that when i type *#06# - nothing appears.
I tried a last resort thing, using a hex editor and some crazy terminal emulator stuff, but there are so many rows and rows of numbers and strange letters that i do not understand and i gave up all hope.
So to get something in the clear ? You have NO imei at all or did it change ? You tell different story's
And you can't use the phone ? No signal ..... or is it working fine ?

HTC One M8 Bricked Please help!

I just got it 2 days ago, unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device. So i went to flash a custom rom and i wiped system, cache and data, then when i tried to flash i gets stuck at Updating partition details... And then says Failed! in red letters. What can i do to unbrick my device?
Try another ROM. You may have tried ROM not compatible with your device, or just may be a corrupt download. Or you may have an outdated firmware or TWRP version.
If we had more details, we might be able to tell why it failed. Do fastboot getvar all, and post the result (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Also post what TWRP version number. And what ROM (exact name, version number, etc.) you tried.

QHSUSB_BULK is really just a symptom, rather than a single defined problem. It just means your computer can't "talk" to the phone. It may mean the phone is simply not powered on, or that it's hard bricked. The latter is not fixable, so I'm guessing it's simply the former (not powered on) that caused the QHSUSB_BULK message.
In any case, glad to see you sorted it out.

I am guessing at this point.
So you modified the hardware settings of the radio..
so after you command line flash stock oreo.. and boot to it,
might have to issue one of those # codes to change its settings, and I don't know those.
Going to settings apps and removing that permission might be worth a try but I doubt it will change the radio back.
probably change title - add "need dial # codes" or some such.
Sorry.
this might get you started google moto z play dial codes

I had already flashed it with a new version rom so the device is no more rooted to withdraw the permission given to that app. As the mobile is erased so no chance of cancelling that permission. Okay I'll try downgrading it and also this method too.

Downgraded but still didn't received network signals.
Downgraded but still didn't received network signals. It's just erasing and reflashing the device or just like over writing on it but it isn't formatting the emmc chip and rewriting the program. It won't set right 'til the emmc chip is formatted like the mediatek devices done by selecting format and flash. Or else do we need to change the IMEI number and how?

did you look at those dial codes above? I don't know. I would have to experiment...
Don't change the IMEI number.
Codes also didn't worked.
Codes also didn't worked, so final thing we need to do is formatting emmc chip and then need to install it like a new born hardware. Only by formatting emmc chip will only makes this mobile to work. So how to do it and flash it?
Codes didn't worked
We need to format the emmc chip and we need to flash it else it won't work. But how tp do it And do remember one thing on mediatek devices if we format and flash then it will also erase IMEI numbers. We have to assign those IMEI numbers later. So you need to think 'bout it and should do experiment.

I have no idea. I think only Motorola can do that. My advise would be "don't".
