I have a question about incredicontrol and set cpu. Every time I open either one, it requests permissions for root. It of course does, then will let new change settings, but when I leave the app and do other things, incredicontrol and set cpu don't remain in the task manager for very long. Is it possible that the Rom or v6 is automatically killing them? I'm on nils 3.5, but this same stuff happens for me on all roms.

The apps don't need to remain open to set the CPU limits, think of them as setting a setting and that's all. In the case of setcpu it has background services running if you have specific rules that it follows on certain conditionals.
Ok that's what I was hoping, thanks!

I can't directly answer your question, but why don't you just use SetCPU like everyone else? No need to fish through the settings, just a simple app.

Everyone else? I don't see the point in paying for an app if the rom already has cpu oc settings built in. I'm sure we aren't the only 2

You can download SetCPU for free from a thread on XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
I bought it from the market well before I found it on XDA, but I would've bought it anyways to show support
I don't need bloat in my CPU throttler. I've been using No-frills CPU Control lately but having it cooked into the ROM is even better.
Well, like you said, its already cooked into the rom right? If you don't even wanna get setcpu for free on xda, I don't see why you're complaining about pressing a little ok button. The app isnt bloat at all and its pretty convinient. You can even set profiles so that the phone's cpu voltage will increase and decrease as conditions are met.

how do you get it for free on XDA?
If you're running Launcher Pro you can create a shortcut directly to the CPU settings screen which will bypass the warning screen. Long press desktop > Shortcuts > Activities > CyanogenMod Settings > scroll down and tap CPU Settings > Name it whatever > click Ok.
You can also do the same thing to the Launcher Pro dock. Long press on an icon/empty slot > Change Shortcut > Activities > same steps as above.
You might be able to do this in other launchers, not sure about them though.

I agree with the OP... need a way to get rid of the warning msg if possible...
regarding getting setCPU... and dont get me wrong i already bought the app from the market since the time we only had temp root... but if you go through the CM development thread you'll c that this issue has been discussed extensively before both on the thread and on the IRC channel and the general consensus was that sticking with the overclocking module built into the CM ROM is better than going with an additional app to do the job (not sure of the exact reasons though)... and now that is exactly what I am doing even though I miss the profiles of setCPU...
so back to the main topic of this thread... is there a way to get rid of that warning msg for good...
I have found this link but it doesn't say anything about being "beta 8"...

Can anyone assist?
Thanks!

Thanks! I would have never found that. Unfortunately, the link is broken or (more likely) the server is down. I'll give it a try later.
Thanks!
I have it, if you hold on a sec I'll try to get it uploaded or a link. Not used to uploading from my phone.

Very cool of you.
Now trying to see if it actually worked and then see if it actually produces any benefits.
No problem! I've been running beta 8 for most of today and its been nice. My settings are 128/1113, smartass governor. Chad's new ingenious governor is coming along nicely, I just find smartass to be a bit more stable for CPU intensive apps.

You just stepped about 2 jumps ahead of where I am. I have SetCPU and I assume that's where you find the smartass governor. So it's wise to switch to that?
I had a fail here. None of my SD card app's icons loaded. I had the same problem when I upgraded to CM#90. I think I know how to fix it...
Sorry about the lingo haha, yes, I believe you can set the governor in setCPU. I'm using cyanogenmod which has built in performance settings and I've heard using that WITH setCPU can cause conflicts. I was just saying that I set my minimum to 128mhz and max to 1113mhz and use the smartass governor. As I understand it, the governor controls how the CPU scales for certain tasks, etc. I think the smartass governor is made for performance and efficiency (I.E turning CPU usage down when screen is off then increasing CPU with usage). Chad's new "ingenious" governor also does this but is new and improved, however does have some issues and thus still a beta kernel. Hopefully that made some sense!
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I haven't played around with the CM performance settings. I might just uninstall setCPU for now and use those. I don't need any more conflicts!
All you need is in that performance menu, the governor you choose takes care of what you would use profiles in setCPU for.

Well... b8 does not install correctly for me. I don't get my icons for apps on the SD card. I tried clearing my cache, battery, dlavik first then installed. No icons. Rebooted again too.
I had the same problem on the update to CM#90 but clearing all those caches resolved it.
I would go report this on the main thread but it won't let me post. I'll have to wait and let Cyanogenmod update its kernel along the way.
So you're missing icons for apps that are installed on SD? Did you install them directly to SD or move them later? Where is it that the icons are missing from, the app drawer, home screen, etc? I have some apps on my sd and I've never heard of that happening, I'd be interested to see what's causing it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I installed them normally then moved them to the SD card. Its the icons on the home screens. They appear normally in the app drawer. I have no clue why they won't load. I know that clearing all those caches and manually installing the ROM eliminates the problem.
I am just assuming it's the apps on the SD card. I guess I should pay a lot closer attention next time. It is a great deal of the icons. Maybe it's just the apps I moved that apps2sd did not suggest but I moved them anyway.
Still waiting for build #91 thinking maybe it addressed the problem.
I have read before that any apps with widgets need to be on internal storage.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
me too. But these aren't widgets. They all come back when I perform that ritual of deleting all the caches. Just not with b8.
Weird, I thought you said icons but that was the only thing I could think of that might cause that issue. If you flash another kernel, the icons come back though?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
anw, is this kernel works on [sense 2.1] gingersense remix b4 by wdfowty?
Recently took the time to flash to the sweetest ICS ROM out there, Darkside of course! After installing and setting up my profiles again I cannot seem to get SetCPU to run in the background. Normally as I'm sure you all know, when you boot your phone it starts with it and puts the icon in the status bar, however that is not the case. Double checking the app everything is set up properly, but seems to refuse to run at boot.
Anyone have any insight on this?
Try the profiles in set CPU and enable them. That's what I do and it works. Also you can download cpu spy and you will also see what it's running mainly on.

Yeah that's another question I had. I was curious if there was another app that monitored the CPU outside of SetCPU to see if the profiles are actually functioning regardless of the SetCPU icon being in the status bar.
I've installed CPU Spy and SetCPU is running my profile correctly so far. Thanks for your contribution & I will continue to monitor this to see if it runs all my profiles properly.
No problem.

Hey, I have a Glide running INC3PETION v1 and using the latest ardatdat kernel, and I was wondering if there is any way for me to change the overclock in said kernel. It is currently set to 1.2ghz but I want to bump it up a tiny bit to maybe 1.3ghz or (if it's safe) 1.4ghz. This is so I can watch some video files (mkv) without having the bad audio lag issues. I would not be having it overclocked at that speed all the time, only for short periods. The only thing preventing me from just keeping a copy of cranium (I think it's cranium) on my sd is portability. The only kernel I know of that is OC'd higher than ardatdat hasn't fixed the data counter issue. And it needs Odin. I would like to be able to just go into CWM and flash my extra OC'd kernel when I need it. As a last thought, I think ardatdat has stopped (or paused) development so if this is at all possible, help is greatly appreciated.

You can try to download no frills CPU control.should be able to overclock when you need it then, just make sure you have root (su)

@above Still, the max is set to 1.2
Side question: say I don't want to install a separate app: what files should I have to mod to select the governor and maximum frequency?
Thanks.

Make your own thread for your own question... I'm looking for an answer to my problem and I don't need constant notifications about yours. Thanks.
And just to clarify, I have an overclocking app already. What I'm looking for is how to change the max clock speed that is set in the kernel. Or just a kernel that has it already raised above 1.2. I need the data counter fixed though, no matter what.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda app-developers app
Audio lag I believe can be fixed in inception v2 with voodoo sound.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda premium
Its only happening in mx when I play mkv. Its a known speed issue with the player. Also, I really don't like the theme on v2
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda app-developers app
If it's a known speed issue with the app, why would changing the oc on the kernel affect it? Think about, the general audience for the app don't have OC kernels. It is supposed to work without OC. I think just an update to the app will fix it.
I'll see if I can unpack boot.img for the kernel, anyway
Well you see it's an issue with older phones. And mine has had a bit of an issue with speed simply because of some of the apps I have running. That's why I wanted to do this. Its hardware limitations. I just worded it wrong.

Isnt it just easier to kill the running apps before playing the video, than setting another oc just to play it. your reasons for doing these are too strange...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927R using xda app-developers app
Except that the running apps are ones that I cannot kill? My Data monitor, antivirus, facebook (which I would like to kill but cannot) as well as a few others are what slow it down. Besides, I just would like to see how well the videos run at a higher clock. Simple curiosity is probably the best way to explain it.

you can kill the facebook app by logging off then it should be able to close.

sorry same here I don't know how to help you. I was just trying to help you out and close different applications that are open in the backround. What I usually do is log off certain applications like facebook and other ones I actually turned around and uninstall anything that stays resident and in memory this way I know that my phone is not running any non essential application in the background.

I expect you'd need to modify the source of the kernel to support a higher max OC, and then you'd need to build the kernel from source. I didn't spot the source for any of the kernels on our phone at a glance, but I didn't look too hard, if you track one down it should be fairly straightforward.
Ah ok. And getting the tools to do so is a piece of cake, so I suppose that's what I'll have to do. Thanks for your help!

So I have finally got round to taking control of my Play. Unlocked my bootloader, rooted, applied DooMKernel v14 and now have Gin2JelllyBean rom.
I've already managed to squeeze a day more battery life thanks for SetCPU down clocking while the screen is off. Now id like to look at undervolting.
From what I read, there should be an undervolting option active in SetCPU but it's not there. I thought DooMKernel supported this, so firstly I just wanted to ask if there is anything I need to do to activate it or if might have gone wrong somewhere?
Thanks in advance.

I have SetCPU too and it doesn't let me change the voltages. I am using IncrediControl for changing them, and it works
OC/UV Beater2 v1.7, allows setting voltages in an init.d script, so there aren't any unnecessary services running on boot
Thanks for the suggestions guys I will check them out.
Still confused why I can't use SetCPU though.

Be careful u dervolting, can actually decrease battery life. Never set undervolts to run at boot.
