I'm still on rooted stock rom and I'm really happy with battery life. I think its more to do with the kernel.... there's Perseus kernel which has undervolt features in the Original Android Dev forum which might be of interest to you... couple that with Rom cleaner and you're good .... good luck

Read my question FIRST.
Then REPLY.
I said CUSTOM ROM.
Stock is not CUSTOM ROM.
There are stock custom roms. Consensus seems to be stock is the way to go.

Honestly, I have only ever noticed a marginal difference in battery life between any rom. Miui roms were always the worst in terms of battery, but between aosp, aokp, cm, I never actually found any serious difference.
I think any difference is either placebo or just from different usages.
With all that said, just try a few and use what you think seems best. But people seem to say wanam lite and hyperdroid or hypernote (I cant remember which) in combination with red pill or perseus kernel

Theres always that one asshole lol I do know what Google is and how to use it. What I'm asking is for peoples experience on what is the best kernel to use in conjunction with CM9 is. What are these forums for if I can't ask these sort of questions? Someone here could save me a lot of heartache/trouble.

Thank you. Have you tried this kernel yet? In your opinion is this the best kernel for CM9 and our device or are you using JB like most of everyone else?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
no offense, but it takes about 30 seconds to flash a kernel. Why don't you try a few and see which one works the best for you? Everyone's experience is going to be slightly different.
I flashed two different kernels before picking one, and after that I added some init.d scripts afterward that improved battery life over the stock kernel settings.

Unfortunately for your situation I am using JB like the rest because I find it more up-to-date, but I have heard really good things about the kernel I posted. Plus, with a title like that, who wouldn't flash it?

I would rather have stability than bleeding-edge any day! Contrary to my claim for the need of stability, I am going to give MIUI a shot. I tried it out when I had my G2x but there were some bugs that made that rom unusable as a dd for me. Hopefully my experience with MIUI will be much more pleasant with the S2!!
I'll flash the kernel later and see what happens. Even though I'll be giving MIUI a test run.... I always end up going back to Cyanogenmod. Always!
Thanks

I'm very disappointed to hear that! MIUI is so sleek and sexy! Why is it so damn hard to get working? ... or is there just a lack devs for that ROM?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
When I was running MIUI my only problem was not being able to shut off the capacitive lights. I had no problems with bootloops or anything of that sort.
I get bootloops and/or camera crashes with the latest JB MIUI and horrible call quality on my end with the last ICS based MIUI. It's odd that the call quality is fixed with the JB MIUI and busted in ICS, should be the other way around lol.

A stable, popular choice is Omega ROM. They offer an abundance of customisations and looks barely different from the Stock ROM (unless you customise it, of course). This ROM can, however, slow your phone down ever so significantly.
In my vague opinion, Android Revolution HD is very similar, however, this ROM specialises in removing most bloatware while still maintaining most stock features. Doesn't have many customisation options, only improves the speed/smoothness of the Stock ROM.
Following on from that, the ROMs begin to get more interesting... NOTEorious Prime & Jedi X ROMs are some outstanding ones which venture out a bit further from the stock ROM. They still have the same features, but they are more extravagant; such as 4.2 camera and multi-window for all apps. If it's customisations you're looking for; I'd look into these ROMs in more detail.
Finally, and inevitably, comes Alliance ROM. First off, let me make it clear that I am completely biased towards this ROM mainly because it's the one I'm running currently and the one I've stuck with for far too long after flashing all varieties of ROMs. This ROM has unbelievable amounts of customisation, looks stunning and runs smoother than Bill Clinton. If that's not all, you still have stock features like s-pen, glance view, multi-window etc as well as kick-ass OTA (over-the-air updates) which lets you pick and choose exactly which updates you want and when as well being compatible with every kernel for the Note 2. I'll stop before I pass out from its untouchable flamboyance.
So there you have it... As many others will tell you, test the ROMs to find your favourite but here's my opinion and here's to hoping you find it helpful.
Cheers...
for me, the rootbox miui and V5 are the best.
although differente from each other, they are very good roms very customizable.
Assassin rom and Tweakbox all the way! Nothing beats. Do your homework!

My phone drains 0.2-0.3% per hour on the stock kernel (on wifi with a decent router). The TW custom kernels are not worth using, in my opinion. Now AOSP on the other hand... yikes. Pretty much have to use them.

You might want to take a look at your wake locks. If you are having that drain while the screen is off, it most likely a wake lock. Search the forums for better battery stats.

I'm running HyperDrive Rom and Ktoonsez Kernel. I have tweaked much of the cpu frequencies and used the ktoon governor. However, my battery life compared to the stock rom isn't that great.
Every phone is different so will run different on your phone. I do recommend Dandroid. It now has wifi calling. Complete based on T999. It used to be a port. It's super smooth with great battery life. And it's Cyanogenmod themed.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
There are no "best" rom/kernel combinations for battery. It varies from phone to phone. You could try testing different TouchWiz roms and kernels, but remember to make a nandroid before doing so. Some roms you could try are wicked, stockorama, hyperdrive, etc. For the kernels you should use the stock kernel for stability or ktoonsez.
The past week, I've been trying to find a rom and kernel that would increase my battery life. I use my phone for many different things. However, I gave up trying to do so and I am reverting back to the stock rom and kernel, as I have heard that it gives decent battery life and offers the best stability. The only problem I have with this is that the stock rom is no where as smooth as aosp roms. Sometimes it laggy and it loads stuff slowly. Any way I can get around this? I know it isn't a big deal, but to me it makes a big difference.
In my opinion use a custom ROM based on stock firmware.and just test.

Believe me, I've tried. I haven't tried all roms, but what I do know is that I love custom roms because they are quick, responsive, and offer tweaking and customization. However, it isn't as stable and usually for me doesn't offer good battery life.
