Any ROMs with native group SMS? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Im kind of baffled that jellybean does include native support for group SMS. Are there any ROMs for the i747 that natively support sending and receiving group SMS?
I'd attempt to cherry pick it my self but don't have enough HDD space for a build environment.

Well I've stumbled across euroskanks jellybro cherry picks and noticed that it has group MMS.
Any others?

Paranoid Android and Liquid Smooth. PA's works, haven't tried LS. We should start a petition and see if we can get all ROM developers to include the feature.
Any others?

I think most aosp ROMs have it now. Aokp has it not sure about cm10.

I have it on aokp. Curious though, touch wiz ROMs don't have it correct?

I think that's correct. You have to use GO SMS Pro Handcent, neither of which are great. The VZW message program does it better than anything else I've tried, but it has the ugliest GUI of anything, ever. Including old school myspace and geocities pages.

All AOSP roms have mms issue.

For some time now of have been trying to figure out why whenever I use a non sense based rom I have mms message download failures.
Come to find out, it only happens when I receive a mms that contains either an animated gif, or a gif with an audio attachment. I can receive mms messages that are just pics or plain text messages.
Again this is ONLY an issue on AOSP roms. All sense roms work as they should.
Can someone please look into this and see if this can be fixed?
Thank you.

Good luck, because you're apparently the only one who has this issue. I have never had any problems with video or audio MMS messages. However, my only experience with AOSP has been CyanogenMod. Never bothered with any of the others that have been recently released. So, give CM6 a try.
same here. no problems with mms on AOSP
I had the same problem until I tried MIUI...now they all work
Hmmmm. So all you guys can receive a mms that contains an animated gif with cm6 or miui?

You are correct despite what others say. ANYTIME the particular mms messages that you mentioned are sent while on AOSP they fail to download. No questions about it. I'm using the latest cm nightly but it has never mattered. You can only get gifs with sound and such via a sense rom on the evo.
There's a .zip in the Ultimate Droid rom thread someone posted that may help you. I don't have a link off hand, sorry.

Is there a fix for this that you know of? If not, why is this issue never addressed?

Wondering why this isnt looked into???
because its not a problem for the majority of AOSP users. if it was a major issue, it most definitely would have been address by cyan. you and the other guy who says it happens to everybody doesnt equal this being a major issue. not trying to me an ass.
Just checked with cm latest nightly. The mms does not download as you mention. I will have to look into this.....
i guess i must be special or something

I agree with you. I was on CM6RC2 RC2 and couldn't receive any of those animated gif files. I clicked download and I got the error message that the download was unsuccessful.
However on the brighter side I was able to receive regular texts, video texts, and picture text.

Ya, atleast we are able to receive pics, vids, and texts.
It just gets annoying when I receive something and can't download it.
I wonder if the devs are aware of this?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
After using CM6.1 RC2 for a few hours, I went back to MIUI, and couldn't receive or send MMS. I then went back to Fresh, and STILL had the problem.
Today, it went away. I was kind of lost.
I don't think that Android natively supports animated GIFs. I think they modified the browser to support it (or maybe it's native in the browser only). I don't know if Sense supports it outside of the browser, but if it does, it's something they included in the Sense image viewer.
If you save a gif image, it wont show animation. This might be connected to your problem.

[Q] 4.2.1 messaging on Stock Rom?

I'd like to move away from using gosms because it kills the performance on my phone whenever group messages are sent. While looking for an alternative, I saw this thread...
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...us/230061-4-2-1-improved-group-messaging.html
Where it looks like there is official support for it now? I'm hoping there is a way to get this on my phone without having to switch to a custom ROM
On TW ROM's Group messaging does not work I have tried all the AOSP Messaging ports for Touchwiz, and Group doesn't work at all.
Even Touchwiz itself doesn't have Group messaging at all, which is Samsung's fault, for whatever reason not to include that.
Two options. Run GO SMS or Handcent on a TW ROM, or move over to CM10.1 ROM's which of course do have Group and Quick reply fully working, stock.

Ok. Yeah I'm not liking gosms because it's a performance hog whenever I get group messages
Would moving to something like paranoid android be ok too? It would support it?

Yes. All CM10.1 ROM's are 4.2 based, which has Group messaging and Quick reply, standard default in the stock text app. May have to go into settings to enable Group, but its just one box to click, and your good.
Blows my mind, that Samsung left out Group messaging in Touchwiz. To some people like myself, that's a very important feature.
And GO SMS and Handcent suck, big resource hogs, and memory eaters.

Sprint Voice Mail Issues w/ Custom ROMs

Every time I've used custom ROMs since my original Evo 4G, I've had issues with voice mail. It's not just visual voice mail, it's the Sprint voice mail call in and notification. The long press 1 gives me a carrier automatic message for not available and my notifications are all text messages with a hyper link and phone number to call that don't work. I have to manually call my number to access voice mail and check for messages.
I've tried the Google Voice option and did not like it. I love switching ROMs like socks and giving them all a whirl, but I cannot live without better carrier voice mail integration or a better solution for tracking missed calls, my job won't allow it.
If anyone can explain why AOSP/AOKP ROMs I've used have this problem and stock framework ROMs do not, I'd be grateful for the education and would also welcome work around suggestions so I can keep ROM hoping.

Because it's not built into aosp ... It's a carrier thing which is why you can do it on a touch wiz rom but not aokp or cm10 its not there to fix on aosp

So is basically hardwired into the framework of the ROM. Modified stock ROMs would work by maintaining carrier framework but AOSP/AOKP based ROMs would not because their framework is based off Google source code. That about sum it up?

To get voicemail working on aosp, install the VVM app, go to menu and record a message, then send the message to [email protected] and wait for a return message. This will provision voicemail to work on aosp. After you do that VVM will work, with the exception you will receive a text from 9016 as well as the VVM notification, and long pressing 1 will work. For long press 1 you may need to go to the dialer > settings > voicemail and add your phone #

Awesome, I'll give that a shot! So the previous comment about vvm being tied to the stock ROM framework isn't true then?

I'm on the Avatar Rom and all I did was install the latest VM apk and it works. It has a dark theme now which is nice. Not sure if there's a block text option in the Rom or have to download a app to block the texts.

It is to an extent. It only works automatically and self provisions on stock based samsung roms, it has to be done manually on AOSP/CM based roms. The other alternative is to use a 3rd party vvm app from the playstore like youmail. But manually provisioning and setting up the carrier VM options in the call settings from dialer should get the sprint VVM working. You'll get your regular vvm noti but you'll also get a text from 9016 everytime you get a message

I'm going to flash Paranoid after my next conference call and load the vmm app to activate. I'll let you know how it works. I wonder if I can blacklist 9016 to prevent those texts from coming through as a work around.

When I used gosms I used to blacklist them, you could probably spam filter them in the stock messaging app tho

Stock messaging app doesn't have a spam blocker, but I got one that works. However, I can get the VVM apk installed but it won't work right and the activation vm I sent did not return a message to me. Also, with Paranoid I'm not able to change my voicemail number from *86, whenever I enter a new number and hit OK it changes back to *86.

Try vanilla rootbox. I prefer it over PA has the same features plus more and my vvm works on it. I actually cloned rootbox to a twiz rom, has pie, pad the themeing most of the customization and still has all the samsung features like spen and multiwindow. Once I get it updated to ma7 I'm gonna release it. I was about to release my ljc version when ma7 went ota and decided to hold off til I update

Not yet. I've been having issues with the latest update and some of my mods, and have been too busy with work to actually put enough time and effort into fixing it. Seems like every time I get it ready and update comes out before I can get mine finalized. Works been way busier this year, which is good for my wallet but bad for my hobby time :sly:

you can do Multiple user MSS, but the text when being received from that user will be shown in a regular text and not as a group chat. if that makes sense lol

AOSP Messaging and Contacts instead of Touchwiz

So I have successfully rooted my GS3, and I am beginnign to realize just how much the Touchwiz SMS and Contacts app suck. In fact, most of their apps suck, but I'm a little Weary of flashing AOSP or AOKP roms.
How do I replace the stock SMS and Stock Contacts app with the AOSP ones? I dont really want to flash them unless nessesary. I'm mostly doing it for the inverted AOSP MMS. Albeit I am open to completely wiping touchwiz off my phone for good.
Camera App wise I will be fine, there are a couple apps on the market that do what I need them to "Panoramics and stuff"

Thanks! So even without the AOSP Conacts app this will still work with my normal touchwiz components (Even though I hate touchwiz)
May look into getting the GS4 Nexus edition when its released.
Correct. The only issue this mod has with TW contacts is that if you touch your own contact picture in a message thread, Contacts will FC. Easy enough to avoid, I honestly forgot it happened until you asked about Contacts lol.

Huh, what an odd bug.
I suppose if need be I can attempt to find the AOSP Contact app. If its even safe, but that bug isnt that huge, I'll just remember not to be so egotistical and not click on my user picture so much
