[Q] "Shell denied by superuser" - HTC One X

Hey guys,
I've got a stupid problem which only is solved by rebooting: It is showing every so time "Shell has been denied by Superuser"
And that stupid message pops all the time until you reboot. (going to superuser/log shows every 1/10th of a second a new log of 'Shell has been denied by superuser".
I got CyanogenMod 10 with N7C (or something) kernel and don't have any apps on it, except a few standard stuff. And Afterburner Cyanogen10 theme (which does show when installing that theme "This theme is missing some files for your screen".
What is the problem and how do I resolve this? I can't find anything in Superuser to grant Shell permission ..
Thanks in advance!

You can select the app in superuser and assign the permission. Or if there's a reset permissions button somewhere in settings you can try that.

Hmm, well already looked twice for such thing, before this reply.. But will look again, since I can't find it :s

And what if you set default acces to grant in the SU-app after clearing permissions data?

[Question] about hboot/superuser/custom roms

I have a few noob questions hopefully someone can answer
I rooted using toasts method part 1 and part 2
I have flipz .6 rooted rom and radio 1.39.00.05.31
Do I always have to go into hboot then select recovery every time or is there a direct path to boot into recovery?
Every time I install custom roms will i have to redownload all my apps every time? If so is there a way to easily back up the apps and restore them?
The superuser permissions app is there after rooting what is it used for?
LxMxFxD - the act of "ROOTING" is the act of giving super user. Super users are accounts on a phone or linux/unix device that can do EVERYTHING on the machine. Like the admin on windows. The whole point of rooting a phone is so you can get super user permissoins.
When i select the superuser permissions app i just see a black screen, should it do more than that?
ccapasso - What you are seeing is normal. The SuperUser Permission app is by default blank. However, once you start using apps that require su permission, such as Wireless Tether, it CAN start to have entries in it. I say CAN because you will notice that when you choose the Wireless Tether app, you will get a prompt asking you to allow. If you choose allow, it will continue as always. However, if you choose Always Allow, you will no longer get that prompt. Also, once you choose Always Allow, your SuperUser Permission app will now show a listing in it. If you simply choose Allow instead, you would still have nothing listed in the SuperUser Permission app.
How do I remove the proprietary apps?
you need to be in the recovery
from the cmd window type
Code:
adb shell
mount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
cd /system/app
rm amazonmp3.apk
check this post for a list of apps to remove
can anyone help me out with question 1 or 2?

2) Try Titanium Backup in the App Store - I tend to like it quite a bit.

Terminal Emulator

I cannot enter any SU commands in TE since I updated to 3.29. Ex. Reboot and reboot recovery - get "Not Permitted" error message. Anyone else?
Thanks!
I just rooted using the latest Unrevoked (3.21).
The process indicated success.
But attempting "su" in an effort to manipulate "perms" results in "Permission denied".
Does this mean I am not actually "rooted"?
Or do I need a something in addition to being "rooted".
I seem to remember something called "Super User application".
Is this a requirement? If so, where might I find it?
Thank you for all your time and consideration.

You can download Superuser from the market. Skull and crossbones icon.

Thank you for your reply bender1077.
Is this app required in order to make changes like deleting apps and stuff on a "rooted" stock ROM?
Thanks again.
--Chris
If you are using an app that requires Superuser permissions yes. Depends on how you are removing the apps. I always delete through ADB.

Thank you again bender1077.
I used Unrevoked 3.21 to root it. When it had completed, I found that SuperUser was/is
now installed, and available on my HTC-EVO-supersonic.
On the downside, when prompted by SuperUser when I launch Terminal Emulator to allow
su (root), I answer YES. But when attempting (like you) to delete apps, or what-not,
I'm told "read only file system". So the attempt fails.
Seems we're having the same issue - no?
Thanks again.

You have to remount in -rw in order to delete apps iirc.
I'm not trying to delete apps through TE, I do that through ADB.
BUUUUUTTTTTT.... Please just go into TE, and see if you are able to enter a simple command like reboot, and confirm if it works on 3.29.
I still get "not permited!" error.
It is funny that TE has permitted mispelled by the way!
THANKS!

Greetings bender1077,
Code:
% su
message from SuperUser:
permission granted to Terminal Emulator for su
# _
# reboot
permission denied!
# _
I hope that made sense. Superuser granted permission to me
to su. I got the hash in the upper left hand corner (#), indicating
I was root. But as you can see, I was not granted permission to "reboot".

[Q] su permission denied

Hello there,
I just flashed a new ROM (Gingerbread 2.3.7) last night. After signing in the Google account everything is great; the old apps got redownloaded and all. I noticed that there is no apps listed in the superuser. I tried 'su' command in the emulator terminal & I got permission denied.
Luckily all the apps are working in perfect harmony. However, how do I get the superuser permission back? It seems like my device is not rooted. Do I need to root my phone again? Fingers crossed I don't.
Initially, I tried to flash the Ice Cream Sandwich. I tried multiple times but to no avail. I even tried to change the HBOOT (from CM7 > downgrader > Stock HBOOT) but the process failed. I afraid that this might be the cause my root access got lost. Anyone can verify this?
Thanks!
Su app will be built into the ROM so you should still rooted. Sounds like Su settings are just defaulting to deny. Open Su, menu > settings and check its set at prompt (safer than allow). After flashing new Rom you'll need to launch apps that require root access to allow them permission again. You might need to update the Su app or binaries if permissions don't stick.

beachcomber,
1. my Superuser is set at prompt.
2. I am not sure which app that require root access. Could you give me some examples so that I can run them?
3. I tried to update the su binaries, but I got this:
" checking current install path...FAIL!"
" failed to find currently installed su binary. Update cannot continue."
Therefore, what do you suggest?
Thanks.

Give an app su permissions?

I installed the su addon from Lineage extras.
Root Permissions are set to 'Apps & ADB'
"Manage root accesses" is greyed out.
How can I assign root permission to AFWall?

If something needs root access it will ask you. It is not something you can give to an app before it is needed. Once you have granted permission to one or more apps the "Manage root access" will no longer be greyed out.

I uninstalled AFWall & reinstalled, it never asked for root. When I launch it, it gives me the "Make sure it has su permissions" notice. Is there any way to trigger it?
Not sure if its related, but when I go to AFWall Preferences -> Log -> Turn on log service:
"Unable to start log service.LogTarget is not empty or LogService not enabled."

I'm not familiar with AFWall, sorry. Launching it should have triggered the request to grant su perms, at least to my mind it should have.

Late reply but I just had this problem, so in case it could help someone else : I made a mistake to install the addonsu in its last version, on my Lineage 14.1. Big mistake... everything seemed to be ok, except this unability to give root permissions to app (they weren't asking me for at all) and this "greyed out" symptom described here.
I just uninstalled this addonsu to reflash it with the 14.1 version corresponding to my Lineage and... here we goooo....
