I use the FM radio on my OG EVO all the time and I'm going to upgrade to the Note 2 when it comes out. Is there an FM receiver on the US version?
Sent from my JellyBean Evo View running CG Rom
I'm interested in knowing this as well. I won't have unlimited data so an FM radio receiver would be great for music on the go. Samsung's US product track record would point to no but it's also their first time having their exynos SoC over here in the states. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
The at&t galaxy s2 was exynos... and didnt have the FM radio. (I believe the International version of the same phobe did.)

The n7100 (international note2) works great on at&t. (Including the FM radio)

http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-5009
^ T-mobile's instruction manual is released and there's no mention of FM radio sadly.
Pretty much every US variant of the Galaxy S/S2/S3/Note class devices has had no usable FM capability.
I see no reason why that would change.
I still hold out hope of a mere software disablement. At least one person has FM working on a GT-i9305, which otherwise doesn't seem to officially support FM.
Latest free release of Spirit is here if you want to help test: http://d-h.st/lfR
Anyone tries, please send me a debug log using Menu-> Test-> Email-> Logs. After 10-15 seconds press Send.

garyd9 How is AT&T LTE service on your international Note II ? I know in the past with unlocked phones (g1, note) the bands didn't match up, or there was soc compatibility issues and I was stuck with either 3g or edge for service. I currently have the Note and wasn't too happy that features like the FM radio were removed. Since I don't have an upgrade available the international version is the same price as an AT&T outright phone is going to be, so I might as well go with most bang for the buck! Additionally, have you noticed any downsides with the device? Thanks for your time!

I have the n7100 which doesn't have a LTE radio at all... However, I've found that nothing I do really takes advantage of the higher speeds, so I don't miss it. Haven't really seen any downsides other than the size (which I'm adjusting to.)
Take care
Gary
according to the engadget review of the T-Mobile version, FM isn't included. Hopefully it will be similar enough that the hardware is still there this time.
I have the Unlocked N7100 using it on the Tmo network and FM radio is working just fine for me.

Well of course it is. FM is a hardware feature and you are using the international hardware that has that feature. My comment was about the T-Mobile Hardware version (T-889). Don't worry, we all have our moments .

vs.
Spec wise both phones are identical
the only real difference is that one has the t-mobile & Samsung logo in the front, and the other only has the Samsung logo
the tmo version also has a tmo customized boot animation, the telus version is plain samsung boot animation
tmo verison has extra tmo broadware apps, the telus version has only one extra broatware (Groupon)
which would you go for?
will you pay the extra $ for the unbranded version?
The one with bloatware crap that might get WiFi calling at some point.
I like the telus one less branding and bigger space to press the capacitive buttons. The Bloat can be removed with root. I wonder when samsung going to drop source code for this phone. Sprint and At&t already versions already have source code slightly before phones come out. Android police and engadget have already reviewed the tmobile samsung galaxy 2.
Why not just wait on the HD version of the phone? Although I'm not sure when that will be out.

the HD version is not AWS compatible
Hmm well do you really want to pay $150 more for the branding because everything else will go away when rooted

wow, if it weren't for the galaxy note coming out, I would definitely get the T-mobile version.
Really good pricing
go with the Tmobil version!!
People are saying the battery life is the worst on the t-mobile galaxy 2. I think its all that badly programmed bloatware on that phone. Also the phone is taking in lte speeds which means the phone uses more power to pull in data. It shows to say lte is over hyped. I think the adreno 220 is overclocked in this phone as well.
Good thing you can usually turn 4g off...
root will be around fast enough ...hell if they can unlock a phone on this site before the actual compny that produces it can i think root will be attainable in no time. save the money and get the tmo version. you can always call tmobile and have it unlocked for free

But hspa+ is 3g so if you turn it off you get edge. Ironically edge speeds on tmobile are faster than at&t 3g speeds.
OK so this is a fun one. I want to use my att note 2 on sprint. I know the phone has built in CDMA but I wouldn't know how to go about using it or even using it on sprint. And for anyone who needs extra info it will be FreedomPop I will be using not actually sprint. So if you are thinking can't be done because sprint won't let me or bla bla bla. FreedomPop does BYOD. Thanks for any help. Oh and yes I did try and search already best I fount was sprint note 2 trying to go to att or simple mobile and such.
Sent from my Note II
Since Sprint isn't a GSM network, the at&t note 2 isn't compatible.
The note 2 has CDMA radios built in it. And even found in the hidden menu.
Sent from my Note II
There is a menu option in the firmware but that doesn't mean the CDMA modem is present.
I have read that it is and also with the s3.

Source you mentioned please, because it's not mentioned in the technical specs.
S3 at&t specs:
Nothing here either.
I could not also find any info saying that it does include the CDMA radios. But I know that its also not reported that the Verizon or sprint variants have gsm capabilities but with mods and such that have been able to achieve it. I have also read somewhere can't find the source again that the s3 and note 2 have the same hardware in every USA variant of the phone no matter which model. It just has different settings set up. If I am wrong then that's sucks for me. But I'm sure someone who makes Roms and kernels should know I think what is actually in our phones. Mostly while searching for a way to have this done I don't see anyone who wants to do it. Most people want to go from CDMA phone to gsm option not the other way around. I have seen a few people who want to have there at&t phones on Verizon but no matter what Verizon doesn't do that even if it was CDMA they don't port in any ESN numbers into there system. I tried looking for people wanting cricket on there gsm model note 2 but only found people who see gsm and CDMA as completely incompatible but now many Verizon phones do both mostly Samsung including all in one in there phones.
Sent from my Note II
It would be the first phone I've seen to have two different modem chips in them. Seems a little unlikely. But making only one version of system software makes sense.
The Verizon and sprint models do have both CDMA and gsm and even LTE built in.

Verizon specs:
Sorry, no GSM capability.
Sprint specs:
It shows the chip is there. But if the phone doesn't use a SIM card, its a no-go for at&t network.

Those links are instructions to mod a sprint phone to work on gsm networks. They couldn't get phone to recognize at&t network. They had to add a sim card holder. Pretty sketchy.
But you wanted to do the opposite.
I posted them mostly to show that other variants of our phone have the radios and that maybe so do we. I would have no idea how to find out. Or how to enable them if needed.

It shouldnt matter. Once we (by we I mean the developers) get a hold of the Firmware the LTE models can have the same love.
true dat. be nice to drop a 7105 5.0 rom on my note 2. be even nicer if t-mobile drops it though
How long until we get the first international rom?

You are certainly correct. However, some of us are T-Mo customers that live in marginal T-Mo coverage areas. We, or certainly me anyway, rely heavily on WiFi calling. So we depend on an actual T-Mo release. I have very recent (3 mos.) and very marginal LTE coverage and above average HSPA+ coverage where I live. (T-Mo still does not show my city in the LTE list!) I love the developer ROMs, but I use the WiFi calling a lot to improve my coverage. Of course, what does that make me, to stay with T-Mo in a marginal coverage area!? duh !!! Thank you for your wonderful development work.
Happy New Year to all!
sammobile annonced today the international Note II LTE in France is getting 4.4.2 update
we should get the 5.0 eventualy to extend our Note life for atleast another year...
looking forward to it in 3-4 months lol

Old thread I know, I have a similar issue and NO carrier in Orlando has any better network coverage where I live than any other, so it's WiFi calling or almost nothing and I'm not selling my house over that issue. lol
Please no one hold your breath for anything from T-Mobile on a Note II; please see this link:

Please don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger ! :silly:
I have decided (if it is inexpensive enough) to purchase a Note 4 off-contract for use with AT&T.
My question is: which models are compatible with AT&T, in all respects. I don't want to sacrifice legitimate LTE connectivity, and I've read elsewhere that some of the factory-unlocked models don't play well with AT&T's LTE network, depending on where you live.
Obviously, my motivation for going this route is to get around the ongoing battle of AT&T locking the bootloaders on all of their Samsung devices, and given that I've had my S4 for 2 years with no unlock in sight...I'm never ever willing to go through 2 years of having a locked bootloader again.
Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2962920 as the T-Mobile appears to have all the necessary bands needed for use on ATT.

It certainly doesn't have ALL the necessary bands, but you could argue that it has enough of them
T-Mobile
I have the T-mobile version and AT&T version of the Note 4. The T-mobile version works as good or the same compared to the at&t phone. The only issue i had was a few calls to at&t to stop them from seeing it as a blackberry. once that was fixed I've had zero issues whatsoever. Your mileage might vary depending upon what bands your area uses. If i had to do it again, i would most defiantly only buy the T-mobile version of the Note 4. My AT&T version is just a spare $852 paperweight sitting in the drawer due to the locked bootloader. Not to mention the T-Mobile version is $100 less on costs. Oh well i guess i have a spare screen just in case.
I would think the att version would be cheaper than T-Mobile because T-Mobile has unlocked bootloader. Why do you need unlocked boot loader? For Roms?

Ahh. No need to buy from carrier. Bought from another site and att let me add insurance on it. Plus note 5 around the corner so maybe wait and get tmobile one from carrier even cheaper
Maybe. I'm using square trade for warranty. It's $5 month with a deductible of only $75. But yup. I have AT&T version and T-Mobile phone. I bought both on payments.

I like square trade and would recommend it but it doesn't cover stolen/lost phones. And they always have a good deal like $100 for 2 year warranty.
I am on AT&T and currently Viper ROM ... I have pretty much been a little disappointed in the overall cellular reception of my HTC10 since I got it (compared to my Nexus 6 - which I wasn't thrilled with it's reception -- but the HTC10 is worse!) The N6 reception was pretty modem or radio dependant.
I'm currently on the 1.53 firmware --- has anyone else had a better experience in a different radio or modem (on AT&T) ?
Does the 1.55 ROM have a different firmware and especially radio ??
I am on stock 1.53, use AT&T and have no complaints about service at all. It has been better than my S6 Active was.
Until people start a radio collection (They always have), you are kind stuck with whatever ones come with the ROMs. When they start posting them, then you can flash away until you find one that works better for you.

I guess, more importantly than the Rom, what is your baseband?
I know I live in a somewhat remote area but 90% of the time I've got good LTE service. But I have about a fifteen minute stretch of road that I drive where reception is really marginal (I even have a signal booster and external antenna for my car)
Pretty much most of this area with my HTC I have no service, where I rarely lost completely with the N6
