I have an issue with the hox (or at least this is the first phone i noticed this on)....
Phone is awake 100% all the time
Of course this has a direct impact on the battery life.
Noticed facebook is keeping it awake... How can i set the notifications to be checked once in a while - i don't need push notifications.....
Any ideea??
Sent from my HOX InsertCoin
turn off the notifications in the facebook app settings...
Well i don't want to turn off notification completly.... I want it to check for notifications every 30 min or an hour or so...
Isn't that possible somehow??
Sent from my HOX InsertCoin using xda app-developers app
It should use google cloud messaging for android (or whatever its called now)
Is it Facebook or Facebook for Sense causing the drain?
Anyway, something is wrong as its fine for me. Try removing and reinstalling Facebook.
You can also set the update interval on the FB app..
I have also installed better battery stats...
Seems to me it is the fb of sense....
I already disabeled the notifications in main fb app (they were set to 30 min before, but apparently smthing was still keeping my phone awake... )
I've attached some screenshots -
Battery usage from settings
Partial Wakelogs
Kernel Wakelogs
I know this is FB because before i logged in in the fb app i had a perfect battery life, almost 16 hrs with normal usage!

I think it's your FB sync setting. Try turning off auto sync in your device options.
Found it mates!!!
I was searching in the wrong place.
It was not in the fb app settings:banghead::banghead:, but :
It was in the settings - accounts and sync - facebook - live feed !!!
Wtf would i want a FB live feed that is sucking my battery empty!!!!
Stupid HTC!!

Hi,
i've been using my Desire HD for a few weeks now and i noticed the awefull cpu/battery usage for the calendar app. i read some usefull posts here telling to clear its cache and it really helped, but , as im monitoring the phone using system pannel i noticed that com.htc.bgp is still using about 30% of cpu over a week period (which happens during the sync periods where i set them once an hour).and apparently sometimes the sync lasts for quite some time (10-15mins) draining the battery and cpu (noticed this by sync icon and checking with sync settings that some items r syncing continuously for very long time, like htcsense for ex. )
just need to double check with the experts here to verify if this is normal , cos the battery use from calendar app is not less than 6% of battery in 10 hours, which is more than any other lightweight app i have.this is concerning me cos this phone is my 1st android device and i LOVE IT working the way its intended to,not thru disabling syncs or whatsoever.
sorry for the long post , thx in advance for the replies .
i have same problem as you.
Do you use the calendar? If you don't use it consider unchecking the tick box under "Accounts & Sync", & removing the app with Titanium Backup.
I don't use it as I have a small paper diary, a low tech solution you could call it.
Never mind...sorry...you had read my sticky..
I just got an arc S~
My facebook is draining 15% of battery. I have not enabled facebook integration, sync is set to never and notification is off.
I do not want to uninstall this app.
Can you help with my situation?
Disable the GPS, I have this app for my captivate and it kept running the GPS, and the stay awake time was horrible, maybe some sort of task killer world work for you, I'm personally using mobo task killer

Try the setting under here.
Setting, Sony Ericsson, Facebook inside Xperia.
Turning this off help?
Facebook inside Xperia and GPS are all off. GPS is actuall not draining much battery. Just wondering why Facebook is running when I set everything to off. I did killed it, but it get run again automatically in the backgroud I guess. It is still running now.
Check facebook messenger, think that's included in the arc s apps. It tends not to close.

Try this.
Use facebook app. Open setting once page load. Set it to never refresh?
Is this one draining your battery?
Yes. Facebook app is set to never refresh and notification is off.
There is no facebook messenger app on my phone.
I figured this out that I need to log out from the facebook app. Otherwise it keeps draining battery.
i finally found the answer or trick on this...
first log out from your facebook and login selecting the dont-sync selection
after that you will be back to a normal facebook app only with no xperia integration
before facebook was eating 33mb of ram now that ive done this its ony 13-17mb.
hope this will help you..
Sorry if this is the wrong section, but it seems like the only section specific to the Captivate Glide.
My wife's Glide is stock, very few widgets (google voice, battery, stock clock) and Android OS shows up at 40% when the phone is idle overnight and during the day during use. She has fb set up on socialhub with only contacts synced, 2 gmail accounts, and Touch(used to be pingchat). wifi is enabled and connected for most of the day. bluetooth is on too, but only connected when in the car.
I don't think it's Touch since I have it on my Atrix and Android OS is at 2-3% for me.
Any ideas?

do you have apps that can access your location? (weather apps, maps etc.) If yes, you may wanna go settings > location and security > and then uncheck "Use wireless network" in case you have not done it yet.
I don't think that's it. I have location enabled on my phone and have a weather widget. The wifes phone does not have a weather widget.

She might have some app that is are using way too much cpu, try doing a factory reset and check the usage, mine is currently %17.
Also the facebook app is a notorious battery thief. Battery usage percentage isn't standard for different people, if she's not using much features, the majority of her battery will be used by the OS since there is nothing else to use it.

Wouldn't phone idle be the max usage? For my Atrix phone idle is at 70% or so when I barely use the phone and Android OS is 3%. I can try disabling facebook overnight to see if the Android OS usage goes down.
The battery life for this phone is ok. It hits ~30% or so in the early evening, meaning we need to charge the phone if she goes out that evening. For my Atrix the battery doesn't hit 30% until midnight under light usage conditions (no games).
Is there an app or logcat keyword to filter to break down exactly which thread/process is using up the CPU?
edit: nm, going to read through this first
From looking at the wakelocks with BetterBatteryStats the likely culprit for the battery usage is the facebook chat portion of the fb app. The wife has many contacts in the chat, so it's probably polling quite a bit. For me the wakelock count for fb chat is fairly low. fb chat is a must for the wife so I can't disable it.
Also in the process screen I see several kworkers with high usage...not sure exactly what's causing that.
so for whatever reason the battery drain is now more acceptable even though the Android OS usage is still at ~50%. Could be the fb update, but the good battery performance occurred before the fb update.

my infuse 4g has a battery drain because of fb.....it's always the next thing that is draining the battery (i hope to get screenies). I just force close fb (or set refresh interval to "never") when I am done using it....
I can't say that this is same as yours but it may be a thing to look up.

Doesn't appear to have fixed it. Charged up. Two hours later android os is at 26%. Second only to screen. Before I started using it it was at 60%.
Do you happen to use advanced task killer this may help

Is there a certain task to kill?
I have had this problem since day one with this phone. I did a reset without loading a single app and I see it. Does every glide have this behavior or could this be a bad phone?
Well when I first use my phone a lot of apps are running at startup but you could have a bad phone I don't have the phone so I don't know

From the betterbatterystats output, I'm pretty sure the high Android OS usage is software related and specific to the stock ROM. The radio and wifi battery usage are normal.
I have no clue what the kworker processes are doing when the phone is supposed to be idle. Overnight my Atrix is 68% idle, 12% cell standby...android OS is 2%.
Idk you could try when putting it idle turn of Bluetooth and wifi and the data network this could help see

BT is already off. I could turn off both wifi and data network and if it turns out that is what is causing the battery drain (does not seem like it)...then what? Don't use wifi and the data network? It seems like there's little we can do as an average user to fix the high Android OS usage when idle. It does not seem like high kworker process usage can be fixed by TiBu or other simple fixes from a user.
Another update from Samsung, custom ROMs, and other dev fixes on xda seem to be the only options.
You need to find the source to find a rom that will repair this sometimes an launcher can make your battery die faster I know that Facebook and the browser use a ton of ram I have a stock app on my phone called application manager and I can stop apps that are using my ram

I have never used that kernel myself but I would recommend a 4.1 sense rom (ARHD 9 is good and bugless). The use better battery stats to get rid of kernel wake locks and partial wake locks. Find a good screen brightness for yourself and turn off all not needed sounds. Wifi, data, but, gps, Facebook, Gmail, gmaps, and others can be a constant battery drain sometimes. No app is ever perfect (sometimes causes massive battery drain) but finding an alternative that works better is always great. Also let the kernel run for a couple days and it tends to fix most of the battery issues itself.
Any more info could easy be found with a search
I can do about 3-8 hours of on screen time depending on what I do. Like reading black and white text could do me 8 hours while heavy Web searching or calling or gaming could do me 3 hours

Is there a way to turn off Facebook in the background completely? I turned off notifications and location services from within the facebook app..but its always listed in the "Apps currently running" menu.

I find the Facebook app useful so keep with it only way to completely disable it is to uninstall it and use the mobile version of Facebook instead or tinfoil Facebook app on the market which is just like using the mobile version.

After I've noticed my battery can't last for more than 3 hours, I decided to upgrade from ARHD 18.1 to ARHD 19.2 and remove Sense. Phone is faster and it seemed like the battery was doing better, but then it started again with all the sudden decreases: it goes from 35% right down to 25% all of a sudden and stuff like that.
I drained the battery and the phone was shut down and I let it charge all night, when I unplugged it in the morning it went down to 99% right away and then didn't touch it for 29 minutes, that's when I turned on the screen and saw it went down to 90% without even touching it!!! I checked what took so much battery and it showed Facebook with 50%, and I haven't even opened Facebook today. Moreover, Facebook wasn't even opened in Task Manager so how come it drains battery?
Thank you.

It drains because its set to sync your contacts and you feed as well as send notifications for things such as wall posts and messages all of which it needs to check for.
On the drop when unplugged that's normal, the phone charges to 100%, it will still show 100% but it lets it drop to 95% then charges back up this stops the battery from being overcharged.

Ok that's good to know, but 10% within 29 minutes of being idle? That's way too much! How do I prevent it from syncing and such?
Open the app and go to settings. Turn off syncing in there.
Edit : I also turned off autosync in the settings - sync menu of the phone

It doesn't work; I turned off autosync for all apps, turned off any notifications whatsoever on Facebook, and it still drains my battery when idle.

Come again? You just spoke Chinese man.
Maybe a good alternative to try out. Uninstall the facebook app and use the mobile site for a while !
Have you checked betterbatterystats to see if something else is draining your battery? I used to use the Facebook app and it drained some battery, but nowhere as rampant as you mentioned.
To be fair though I've been using the Facebook No locations apk in the android themes and apps section, hated how it would turn my GPS on every time I opened it.
I still got notifications if I turned off all syncing and location reporting in the app etc. Lastly, you could try SLK notifications for Facebook.
A simple app that hardly drains any battery life (well on my s3 is used about 2% over a 24 usage cycle). All it does is notify you when you have a notification. You can set it to open in the Facebook app (for example if you greenified it) or you can set it to take you to the Facebook webpage or an alternative Facebook app.

I've uninstalled Facebook when it was 89% and it took about an hour to go down to 85% idle and when I installed it again every five minutes I turned on the screen and it was one percent less till it got down to 71% and now I uninstalled again and it lasts more. It's definitely the Facebook that drains my battery.
Edit: ok wait, no.. I've used it for like 40 seconds and it was 71% and now it's gone down to 66% right away, what the hell is wrong with this?! I ****ing hate this phone!
Why hate the phone? It's the Facebook app you should hate As suggested by chirag, use the app Greenify. It hibernates the apps that you choose, that means it stops it from running in the background and consuming data.

facebook also drains battery on my HTC One.
uninstalled it and the battery improved by miles. it also charged faster.
yeah facebook always runs in the background...if you need to stay connected to chat use ebuddy which is more battery effiecient
best thing now is to greenify it.its greenified in my phone (get greenify from play store)
also...check your mA with battery monitor widget while its in sleep it should not exceed -50 mA while the phone is in sleep with all autosynce and wifi off

i think the facebook app always runs and connects to internet and keeping something on always awake , maybe the radio.
something is wrong with the facebook official app, even though after disabling notifications, they still come through
Also the Facebook Messenger causes a ****load of wakeups...same with Facebook app. Definitely a huge battery drainer! Tried out the messenger for 2 days...unplugged the phone this morning. After 45 minutes i checked battery life by using better battery stats and the messenger had alreday caused 27 wakeups without even using it!!
