[Q] roms past Open Beta - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

call it what you will but i assume any rom which is not yet fully developed as open beta,
i wonder however if there is a list of roms which went past-RC stage, where known bugs are fixed etc...
the problem is that when i looked at the current status of most roms and actually come to download them, they often have issues of different types, ie cm7 have performance problems (scroll smoothness worse than that of cm9- ICS4.0.4), SGSII v10 have problems with mixed up translation of menus, (it looks like everyone went ICS dropping whatever they have developed half-finished)
is there now a list of release ready roms? can i find it anywhere?

Well, stock-based roms are most stable. Check Adrenaline rom, Aurora rom.
I'm currently on CyanogenMod-7-20120920-NIGHTLY-gio. I changed launcher, theme and some apks and it seems like very nice rom.
Maybe scrolling is not always smooth, but it's not very big deal.

debiandroid is very light and smooth, I recomend it. some apks are missed but you can add them by yourself.

so i take it, as such there is no "stable release" list?

I'm using marcins cm7.2 (CyanogenMod-7-20120920-NIGHTLY-gio) which i also replaced with some apks (phone.apk and camera.apk replaced with one from phiexz latest cm, fm.apk replaced with spiritfm).
using link2sd for additional space and its fast and been completely stable for 3 weeks using it for everything!

Vote for your favorite ROM, my opinion

Due to massive upload of sense 3.5 ROMS, this thread can be deleted.
Too much of the same, I find personally
The WFSDEV team should work together to make one or two good sense 3.5 ROMS.
But no, what do we see, 5 or more ROMS which are almost the same.
And then they're all claiming its their own work, and asking for thanks / donations.
Users get confused, don't know what to try, ...
I claim that HenseMod is fully themed by me only, I've chosen the icons, wallpapers, fonts, ..., and I'm proud of it
The WFSDEV team isn't a team either, I asked to other team members to help me with a cwm zip and no news of it. Hate that.
So I think I will leave the WFSDEV team, nah
Cm7 & hensemod.
Cm7 as my main then hensemod maybe a couple of days a month when I'm bored lol

Here's my 2 cents:
(First of all, I have flashed and re-flashed EVERY custom ROM that I could get my hands on - from this site or otherwise - onto my WFS... here's my quick overview.)
- I currently run m1ndh4x8r's Cracker. It's smooth (like Hense), stable, and as close to stock as you can get (without actually running the rooted stock.)
- The rooted stocks are, by far, the most stable (but everyone wants an overclocked kernel, so stocks are out).
- The NonSense ROM was quite nice, but only at GB 2.3.3.
- Matteo ROM is fast, but not much else. Not a lot of internal space left, the gallery function is broken (when accessing thru the camera app) and the default font is absolutely useless - be prepared to change it) There is no built-in advanced power button menu. Bootup animation is annoying. Also, Matteo breaks the proximity sensor on your phone.
- Marvelous ROM: Fantastic (but not overclock'ed)
- CM7 is, I find, very unstable. Not to mention the ugliest ROM I've ever seen. Sure, you can theme it... but the system stuff still looks pretty gross. CM7 is notorious for it's POOR handling of graphics (but it makes up for it in speed and TONS of free internal space leftover). That being said, I could never get a decent Antutu score running CM7. Overclocked at 806 + "Performance" gov., I still can't break 1690 (about 1750 if I use "Smartass + bfq").
CM7 has a crappy camera, crappy dialer, and crappy contacts feature.
Not a fan of the launcher, either.
Also, CM7 breaks the SMS notification feature (over the SMS icon).
Did I mention it looks horrible? I'd rather sacrifice a couple meg's of RAM+space in order to get a phone that looks/feels decent and is a pleasure to use. But that's just me, what do I know.
- Hense was my favourite, until I discovered the Setting widgets is broken... and other odd quirks like the HTC Skin feature is not linked (Link2SD) properly... leading me to believe it's not quite as true to stock as can be (like the m1ndhax0r roms, for example). Hense was quite smooth and peppy. The only changes I made to that was ripping out the new SMS and putting in the old one (no one likes those god damn bubbles) and I think replacing the Market back to old version too). Nice bootup/shutdown animations.
- I even played with the MIUI "port" (well.. not really a port, but...)
This ROM has potential in that it's fast and has even MORE internal space and RAM leftover than CM7... but it's still based on CM7.
Once you taste the Sense UI, it's hard to stay away from it (for very long). But, your mileage may vary.
To summarize, I find the m1ndh4x8r ROMs the best overall (but they are not perfect... their small internal space is problematic, but can be resolved with the usual tweaks n' tricks). Like I say, I'm currently on Cracker (but always on the lookout for newer/better ROMs) and I haven't had any problems with it so far:

Currently using Hensemod because it's fast and i can play RR2 smoothly . The only problem I encountered was with link2sd. After installing 130 apps, system keeps telling me memory is low after reboot. So I switched to data2sd and everything seems flawless except for a slight decrease in antutu score, which is just fine for me as long as i can still play RR2 smoothly
I also saved a nandroid backup of m1ndh4x8r rom. It was my personal favorite before I installed Hensemod. It's really fast, i even got a higher 3D antutu score with it compared to Hensemod.
Totally agree with Tigger. CM7 is nice in terms of memory. However when it comes to graphics specially 3D, it's very poor. Sluggish when playing HD games such as RR2. Pictures taken with it's camera are so ugly i can't live with it. Installing third party camera apps did not solve the problem either. I guess it's CM7 itself.
I also tried every single rom posted here, benchmarked, installed 3d games and experimented with the mods available to enhance it. But i believe Hensemod and
m1ndh4x8r are the best.
Best JxMatteo ROM for me I use Link2SD this best choose for me. I try data2sd supported roms but my micro sdcard too slow so phone performance very bad.
Just downgraded to 2.3.3 (1.66.401.1), its the best and most stable I've seen so far.

## Custom ROMs: A side-by-side comparison ##
Relevant to this thread, I just posted an XLS chart that compares (what I think are) some general/important features of all the custom Wildfire S ROMs that I could find.
It's my own personal work... so, it's sloppy, but probably still useful for anyone trying to figure out what ROM to run but doesn't wanna dive into the flash just yet. Or perhaps folks just wanna see how one ROM compares to another?
Check it out! It'll leave you with whiter teeth and mintier breath!

ROM "Homelessness"

Greetings -
Over the past few months, I have enjoyed flashing ROMs. However, I can't find anything that is a "fit" for me. I welcome your suggestions.
(tl;dr included at bottom)
I started with the various Virtuous Unity builds. Virtuous Team has excellent work - everything is very polished and complete. However, Sense started to slow down/get on my nerves, I began to toy around with MIUI. First impressions were amazing, then the Chinese got in the way. I experimented with using GO Launcher EX, as well as ADW on top of MIUI...but I just did not find that MIUI was a fit for me.
I moved back to Virtuous.
Then Aerovan / Touchpro / Team KANG ICS ROMs became functional. I must say, I am anxiously awaiting a fully working (and customized) ICS build. However, I eventually had to move to something else to use as daily, as fully functional camera and non-crashing apps were a must.
Currently I am on CM7 (7.2 KANG).
Once again, credits to CyanogenMod - very simple, clean, and lite ROM. However, there are some things that I don't particularly love in AOSP Gingerbread. I've played around with ADW, Zeam, and Lightning Launcher, and while providing a very fast and basic functional experience, I am missing some of the convenient features offered in Sense and ICS ROMs.
tl;dr?
Ran Virtuous, MIUI, ICS, and CM7 ROMs. Wanting something new. Suggestions?
Sense ROMs, AOSP, anything and everything open.
Also, links to similar threads are welcome.
Kindest regards,
[::AP::]
It is late - I'll fix some of the poorly phrased sentences tomorrow. Also, thanks for reading the rant.
Idk man I hate how heavy sense is, although the cam is BEAST. I'm on a 7.2cm kang as well and I love it. If you want an ics rom go aeroevans latest video doesn't work though but front can does (somewhat lol) and the market is jankety (fixable be killall drmserver in terminal emulator
I liked incredible HD over on the mik mik, its sense 3.5, the newer incarnation mik runny didn't seem as fast to me, and sabatoge sense based on the ota, its sense 2.1 with 3.0 parts built in, its here under development, both rooms are fully functional, fast, and as far as I could tell after running for a good while, bug free. Those are my sense picks. Right now I'm running an aosp rom, liquid 3.2, its highly customizable and has a built in theme Chooser, I think its faster and more customizable than cm7, and once again bug free, I love it, its ultra fast, and I use ex contacts, its a lot like sense contacts, you know, you can use the dial pad to type someones name and it will bring them up to call them, one of my favorite features about sense, you can also choose from all kinds of lock screens including sense, and there are the sense clock Widgets available on the market, yet you'll have the speed of aosp, I use launcher pro, fastest I've found of all the ones I've tried, there is also a built in over clock function in the settings, you can find this rom over on rootzwiki, hope this informed and helped you.

I'm in the same position as you man. I rooted as soon as AlpharevX put out rev for our phone, and since then ran MIUI, then about 3 months ago i switched to Virtuous. I love allot about sense but also hate too much to use it as a daily. Ive played with all 3 ICS roms out there, and in my opinion Aero's is by far the best in my opinion. It works great minus the finicky camera. his latest build the only things not so great are the cam, YouTube, and the internal mic isn't so great. but the market problem is fixed by a simple one time reboot. the Dinc2 just isn't shown enough love is all, and its sad.

[Q] Sandvold's ICS BETA RoM

Have anybody tried out the Sandvold's ICS BETA RoM? Considering to flash it, but would like to hear some comments about it first... would you reccomend it?
if its important that your phone works as planned i would advise you not to flash it
if u want to try out ics for fun and help finding bugs and stuff why not
I'm using it as my daily ROM. Besides the camera having no preview and keyboard lag I've found it to be pretty good. Great battery life. only had one crash in a week, but I'm willing to trade all that for running Chrome. That browser is fantastic!
I'd suggest that if you don't mind a phone crash on you, then that ROM is not for you.

At least the camera works. The camcorder not so much atm. But in overall, a fantastic rom. I haven't been this enthousiastic about a rom since InsertCoin. So there's that.
HWA is still buggy. For some users a lot of bugs.. BSOD (phone cant wake up - random).. battery drain, etc...
I had give try to sandvolds rom many times (from beginning, when almost nothing works). But as you can see I'm stuck with K900 build of AOKP.. No HWA (a bit laggy), but no random reboots, battery is OK, and everything is fine. I need stable rom/phone but I like ICS, so AOKP is only ROM which can offer that.
Feel free to try sandvolds / bcm9 and aokp, choose on your own judge. ;-)
edit: panorama and video recording doesn't work on k900 rom, but I don't really using camera on phone..
It's a great ROM!
I have been using it for months. Many updates since then, which comes continuously and at the right moments
Actually everything is fine for daily usage. But I'm a little bit sad about the contact sorting(( that's not very nice there, but taste choice. Also the design is a question of taste I guess
Just recently I switched to this ICS ROM from Gingerbread with HTC Sense. It is a great ROM and even though being in beta status it runs really smooth and stable. I specifically like the installation routine which provides several options (e.g. decide between Apex, Nova and Trebuchet launcher) While I don't miss Sense too much, I definitely miss PDroid! I might even go back to Android 2.3 for a while, until PDroid is finally ported to ICS!
If you want an extremely stable rom install InsertCoin 1.1.4
If you like new Sense and eyecandy flash my rom(Runny ROM)
If you like unstable but awesome features get ICS.

Works great for me
I've used sandvold ICS for few weeks now, first on 0.3.x line (stable but some applications didn't work without full HWA... such as Waze and of course Chrome).
One I sorted my sd-ext (re-partitioned) garbage, and flash 0.4.3 + 0.4.4.4.1 I'm very pleased. Stable (no BSOD with Miui kernel), fast enough with adequate battery life and Chrome... (prefer it much better than stock or dolphin).
I only miss Sense because now no contact merge suggestion pop-up comes and you need to join contacts one by one... A one time act...
Im using this ROM for every day use and for now its great, i like all cool features. Chrome browser is awsome. Didnt have any problems yet. Battery is very good for now.
Yeah, I love the Chrome Beta. It's surprisingly faster than Dolphin now, but it can very well because of the ICS that's bugging Dolphin. I say, if my PB G100 tablet would have ICS (I hope coming April), then I'd entirely switch to Chrome.

Ah, I didn't know the Linking was a part of Sense. That explains. Indeed, with this Sense-less ICS you have to link various contacts manually.
I did merging through GMail web interface from my laptop. Simple, easy to see and update necessary information. Automatic sync updates phone contacts in few minutes and I have no problem anymore.
My 2 cents
It is steadily improving, but still in Beta. So you need to be aware, that some things don't work as it should. Before installing you need to wipe to factory, and wipe dalvik and cache. The install walks you through some questions, but goes rather fast. In version Beta 0.5.1 you should try
1. Apex launcher
2. Stock a2sd
3. aGPS
4. tiamat kernel (don't use stock)
5. old camera (not completely functional)
After install, go to terminal
su
a2sd install
say yes to dalik-cache
say no to data (makes device laggy)
ROM getting really stable and mature
I've been using this ROM daily for than 2 months now. The last version (0.5.3) gets really stable (no more BSODs or reboots). It's nice to have ICS on a 2 years old phone.
Only known issue with the kernel: battery life not as good as with CM7 (Gingerbread).
My current config :
Hboot: Alpharev Bravo Stock S-OFF
Recovery: Clockworkmod 5.0.2.0
Radio: 5.11.05.27
Rom: Sandvold Beta 0.5.3, ICS 4.0.4
Stock launcher
Sd-ext: stock a2sd dalvik yes / data no
aGPS patch
Stock camera libs
Old dhcpcd
T9 dialer
Stock dictionary pack
Kernel: [email protected]
autobrightness patch (after install)

[POLL] Which ROM do YOU feel is best for everyday use

PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING: Just wanted to see what the general consensus was about which ROM is best for everyday use, and for new guys trying out a new ROM, this is a good starting point on what to try first. I agree, most ROMs update often (sometimes daily!) and even though one update may break a thing or two, the general usability of that ROM usually maintains the same.
Now, when voting for this poll, remember to take account usability in an everyday environment, not full-fledged feature comparison. Some ROMs can't record 720p and most ICS ROMs have no (not even partial) HWA and can't use video camera. But these things are things most of us can live without. So when voting, please take into account the basics: If the phone works, if messages work, if you can use Wi-Fi properly, if 3G works, if phone reboots too often or not, if the ROMs runs stable and smooth or if it lags and locks up, battery life, photo camera works or not.
After taking into account usability, take into account features. For example, if you feel there is a CM9 ROM that runs as stable and usable as another CM7 ROM, choose the CM9
Please vote for ROMs you personally have tried, and not for ROMs you "heard" work well. More than one choice can be selected because you may feel more than one ROM was working well enough to be used daily.
Note: I started making the poll including only CM variations, and decided to include other ROMs in the mix (which I'm not sure are based off of CM material), so I just decided to leave CM7 for any Gingerbread based ROM and CM9 for any Ice Cream Sandwich based ROM
DISCLAIMER: This is by any means no reason to diminish some developer's work, but is instead intended for the average guy who doesn't have all day to be flashing new ROMs everytime a new build comes out.
Nice of you guys to vote, but unless someone posts anything, this thread will just get forgotten.. So I'll take the plunge...

CM7 - Euro Skank
Quarx-cm9 from May 11... seems very stable.
I'm using the quarx 120506 (May 6th) and it's pretty stable.
I was having some issues with previous CM9 versions from Quarx and Epsylon, like Bluetooth issues, crashing apps, slower camera, reboots and so on.
This is with no doubt the best CM9 so far (i didn't tested yet the versions from days 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 (may)).
When I have time I'll update to 11th may version to see what have been improved.
I´ve started trying ROMs since i did my register, and that´s a few things i could say about ´em
Gigglebread´s builds of CM7 are the best for me in terms of daily use.
- fast
- stable
- well customized
(i can´t remember of any bug or FC in a little while since i started using it)
120508_v2 Defy+ Quarx´s build of CM9 are the closest of a daily use ROM of all the ones i´ve been testing (so far)
- fastest CM9 i´ve ever tried (after installing Apex Launcher)
- stable (phonecalls, sms, wi-fi, 3g, sensors, camera, gps ...)
- still little buggy with camcorder, and the panomara doesn´t work for me
ps:I ALWAYS do a full wipe before swapping from cm7 to cm9 roms and i always flash my stock SBF before getting back to cm7.
I don´t use chrome, for me dolphin browser mini is enough.

[Q] Aesthetically sensitive guy looking for a smooth glitch free stock 4.2.2 AOSP Rom

Hey Guys, I just want to say that I'm really frustrated. I've been on an OCD-like flash binge looking for a smooth, stable, graphically glitch free rom, and I haven't been able to find one.
Here's what I tried and what about these roms led me to flash away:
- [Chad's 4.1.2 AOSP]. Cyanogen-free Stock AOSP, smoothest of all of them and no graphical glitches (open an app and watch the transitions, most if not all apps will be choppy in their transitions when opening, small detail, but it's there. In most ROMS. Except this one) However, stuck on 4.1.2, associated with drama apparently, and lock screen would be slow to start up on times
-[slimbean, Liquidsmooth, carbon] Latest releases. They're all smooth and apparently stable; however, graphical glitches plague them all. Apart from the transition choppiness mentioned earlier, these roms have a transparent nav bar that messes things up. For example when opening an app, a white bar shows up where the status bar is, even though its for a half a second, it's annoying. Plus I'm not a big fan of so many contradictory options from the rom - I like it minimal and functional, but that's not really an issue.
-{mrom} march 9. After being almost blinded by the horrible orange theme (no offense, just my taste), I switched to a stock theme that was mercifully included. This is the one I'm running now w/ Leankernel, as the status bar glitch isn't there. But the transitions are still choppy at times, as well as any music playing (cyanogen mod issue apparently). RIght now im hoping that his upgrade to the 3.4 kernel fixes many of the issues.
But that's been my journey so far to find something as minimal and functional as the stock that comes with Nexus line of phones. I've tried a bunch of other aosp roms not listed, but so far same experience as liquidsmooth and the others.
If you guys know of any rom that is just PERFECT, please let me know, as I'm 12 steps away from becoming a flashaholic I apologize as I know Isound like a whiny bizznitch, but my inner soul wont rest until I flash in peace.
I to have been on a flashing spree lately. I'm now happy with the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2116531 ROM. Absolutely amazing. You have the option to do just about anything you want with the ROM. Morphology is awesome. You should definitely check it out. You can also add MultiView which is cool.
I prefer the look of stock Google. Even with touch wiz I had some lag and bad battery life. I just flashed back to the anthrax ROM. 4.2.1 but its smooth. Want to go back to 4.2.2 tho Lol. Never ending cycle
