Ok so I was not aware that the s3 here in Canada had the floating touch feature , see a lot of times when I type
I don't even have to touch my screen to get the letters to type or when I go to push an app I can hover over the screen and it will go
It's almost like I can feel a force from the screen in my finger some times almost feels tingaly. Example like pushing on an invisible electro wall ...
Can some one explain more of what's going on and how I can make it more sensitive ?
More sensitive? Do you mean less? Don't know why you'd want it more sensitive. It does that because they screen uses electro magnetic pulses from your body, therefore, if you have a strong enough magnetic pulse the screen may react without you actually touching it.

It's a capacitative screen... check capacitative vs. resistive screens... the new generation capacitative screens are a lot better than they used to be... my S3 only responds when I touch the screen though... albeit slightly... if yours is doing this all the time you might want to consider a replacement.

I don't think s3 has the floating touch feature. Mine only responds when my finger comes into contact with the screen. I believe the floating screens is responsive even to you not touching it at all.

I noticed an issue with the screen of the galaxy nexus.
-It seems that it does not regester the touch of my finger as good as my nexus s. " once you touch the nexus s screen very lightly you see a direct response. In the GN the light touches does not regester. Is that normal??
-Another way to test for it is using a stylus... the nexus s works perfectly with the stylus touch. In the GN you have to push slightly for the touch to register.
Finally.. when touching the keyboard very slowly... the button does not register no matter how hard you press. weird!
Have any one noticed this issue?

This simply scientifically doesn't make sense. If the nexus was a resistive touchscreen you would have to push hard, but, it's not. On a capacitive touchscreen it picks up the electrons in your finger, so, the lightest touch registers. It is impossible that pushing harder works better, that's not how the screen works. This is the case on the GPS in your car, not on your phone. It's probably your messed up brain ha ha jk

I know what I'm talking about!!. what I meant is: you need a larger surface area of your finger to touch the screen for it to register the touch.
there is a significant sensitivity difference between the GN & the nexus s
Here is a quick video demonstrating that slow touches does not register:
http://youtu.be/3a8rMJvI7zs
Personally, my nexus allows me to barely touch the screen to register. BUT, in past experience with capacitive screens, when my fingers were particularly dry the screen wouldn't register unless I put more finger surface down. I do a lot of wood working and all the saw dust really sucks the moisture out. Now, whether its the lack of moisture, or the capacitance between my dry static-y finger and the screen surface making mini lightening bolts, I don't know, but there was a big difference

This could be due to the fact your not holding the phone in your hand while interacting with the touchscreen, on nexus ones the touch screen/capactive buttons didn't work too well when the phone was placed on a desk and interacted with.

I have seen the same issue as the op, it is especially noticeable on the system soft keys where they require more finger surface area before they register the touch. The worst offender is the three dot menu key in the soft key area.
Hope they tweak the screen sensitivity a bit.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
It also happens when I'm holding the device in my hand. I noticed that the lower screen is less sensitive than the upper part.
me too can confirm this issue.... it's like in the posted video:
trying to touch the screen on the Gnex sooooo slowly/lightly some times the screen don't take the input
you can verify in dev setting on the option that show you touch screen coordinate when you touch.... on the bottom of the screen you can see 'PRS' value (pression): try to touch so light you can the screen, you will never see number lower than 0,26/0,27 values.... now, if you can, try out on nexus s on other phone you have... you will see a very lower number. Lower is the number, better is the touchscreen sensibility.
and..... i know the difference beetwin capacitive and resistive touch..... soo, why can appen this issue to a capacitive one!?!?
p.s. i think this could be a software/driver isseu..... then could bee adjusted by a dev
there is app usefull for this problem, but only for Gnote/Gtab and transformer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS52aXRhbC50c3QubjcwMDAiXQ..
i think some dev can look into this and make one app for galaxy nexus too
can i make....?
Up! XD
To add to this. Overall theGnex touch screen is excellent. The driver seems to be configured to reject touches that are under a certain level of "distinction". If you slowly touch the screen and slowly spread the area of your finger skin over the screen, the touch is rejected. Generally it has stopped some inadvertant brushes, however if using the phone in bed holding it with one hand, it can be hard to use the touch since it can be hard in certain positions to be a bit "snappy" with your touch. It definitely seems intended.
yes.... thanks for the reply
i hope some dev can look into the driver and increase a little bit the screen sensibility.... as you had spoke, on the bed it's harder use the softkey.... and when i put my gnex in cardock it's the same....
you can try this app too it can change the sensitivity, minimum motion and duration to register touch. i have it installed and it does make the touchscreen quicker and more accurate for me. Need root for this one.

yes but it's reported to work for the galaxy nexus as well. im using it with my nexus.
I posted this in franco's thread but it didn't receive a response.

It seems you can edit the touch screen driver in the kernel for the Galaxy S2 and improve the sensitivity.
It has to be some sort of setting to ignore slow touches.
We have to find the equivalent driver code for the nexus. But definitely interested in this, looks like the solution we need.
Noticed this on my Galaxy Nexus as well. Thanks for the confirmation
did anyone find a solution to this problem? I tried the SGS Screen Booster app and i still can't get some touches to register. (i.e., the App doesn't seem to make a difference)
R: [Q] Screen sensitivity Issues??!!
Yeah i can confirm this!
My Nexus is D1 production (jan 2013) and i noted that in general bottom part is less sensitive than upper part!! Quite obvious in the corners and the nav bar. It is not linked to accidentally hit buttons, because you can try to rotate and that part will always be less sensitive.
Even in the upper part, my s2 is far more sensitive than this!
I hope it can be tweaked via software, but I smell crappy hardware here (Samsung Samsung....) because I already returned two devices.
Now that i know someone else noted it, I feel less crazy

I noticed today that my S Pen does not actually mark where I touch the screen. This is not that significant in portrait but it marks and points a very noticeably 3 mm above where my pen is actually pointed. Is this normal or is my S Pen/ Note defective?

I hoping you find a solution thats exactly why I moved from the Note 1 to the SG3 since it was driving me nuts. I had been told the Note 2 does not have the issue so I was going to get my Note 2 later this week.
If you notice, hover the pen above the screen and push the spen inwards with your finger it writes without even touching the screen.
Sent from my SGH-I317M using xda app-developers app
I must say that if that was the case I would go to AT&T and demand they fix it or give me a new one! (Same thing if it wrote before I touched the screen!!) I just tested both of these things and it marks exactly where I place the pen, and does not do so until I am actually touching the screen! (very lightly!) I paid way too much (even though it was only 199 that is still a lot 4 me!) for it not to work exactly as I want it!

Spen fix
To fix the hovering issue u can pop off the spen button with an exact blade or a box cutter blade. You will see two pentiometers. Having the top point to the left, use a fine flathead screwdriver and turn it clockwise an 1/8th of a turn each time or to ur liking. The left pentameter is for sensitivity of the spen. And the right one decreases the distance and sensitivity of the pen of it hovering above the screen causing it to write automatically. There are posts on this matter however I can't find the link anymore. Just Google it. "how to decrease sensitivity of spen for note 2.". I did this to my brothers and my own spen already and all is well. Note the button when prying out WILL fly out so watch your eye and do this in a well lit and clean Area. To put the button back on, just insert the side closest to the tip of the spen first then click in the back side. Hope this helps us guys.
Hello,
I got Samsung Galaxy Note II since a week now and I noticed that the s-pen does not register the weakest (lightest) touch, like when I'm gliding with the pen over the screen (the pen's tip is touching the screen but barely). I'm used to very light touch, so when I'm drawing a line sometimes it does not register at all or there is some part of it missing.
Is this normal? Maybe I just need to learn to press it a bit harder. I found a lot theads about s-pen being too sensitive, maybe I need to calibrate it but the other way? Also I found some threads with the same question but no answer.
Regards,
Dragon
You can adjust the sensitivity by popping off the button on the side of the pen and turning the screw below it. Keep in mind that the way the s pen detects a touch is when the nib on the end is pushed in, so depending on how light you use it, increasing the sensitivity too much might cause false positives (registering touches when to pen isn't touching the screen)

Thank you for the reply D3_. That explains a lot. I guess I'm just pressing it too lightly. I will just have to get used to pressing it a bit harder.
You can still try adjusting the sensitivity, you might be able to find a sweet spot that works just right for you.

Ok I have two s pens. If you hold them together in your hand, you can swipe screens and do whatever without touching the screen. Then I figured out you can click the button on one pen and it will enter the app or whatever your doing. So basically you can do anything without touching the phone. Which means there is probably a way to do it with one pen. Dont know if people knew that so throwing it out there

some consider the s-pen nothing more than a modified stylus.however you can touch anything with it by just hovering it 0.5 mm above the screen. It uses the same technology as MRI.people throw it because they are not aware about it.

you can adjust the sensitivity of the spen by removing the cover off the button. the pot towards the nib is the one you can adjust. just be careful or you'll have quite a few mis-touches.

you can also "jam" the end of the pen, replicating as if you were touching a surface, and bam, you have a magic wand! lol, i just know this because my spen naturally gets jammed -_-

You can do that in TWRP just hover over the icons and sliders and it chooses them

That was on the note 1, ours have 1024
I have:
1) Tmobile S4 (M919) White
2) Galaxy Tabâ„¢ Conductive Stylus ($19.99 now)
3) OEM wireless charger back cover
4) MIME ghost glass version 2
5) Spigen Neo Case
Using finger, the screen and soft button work all the time.
Using Stylus on the screen works all the time.
But there is a problem on "soft button" with "stylus"
1) sometime the stylus works with "soft button", but sometime won't.
2) sometime it works for 15mins or less then stop working on "soft button"
3. in order to have it working again, i have to turn the screen off then on. (but not 100% will bring it back to works)
I also tried with an aftermarket capacitive stylus that it used to works with my ipad 1, the same thing happened.
Do anyone have any idea about this? any physic behind this? thannk you.
The soft buttons aren't meant to be used with a stylus. Unless you have the galaxy note 8, then you are out of luck. The stylus is functional on the screen but not the capacitive buttons..

Ah, no i haven't. That might be your issue. The stuff on the tip of the stylus might not be strong enough to reach the capacitive buttons as the screen uses a different sensitivity level.

yeah, that's what i thought too. but it does work for few minutes after the screen on, so it's hard to conclude that the issue is solely caused by the screen protector. Maybe the sensitivity level on the "soft botton" is decreasing over time, has more sensitive right after it turned on.

I tried it, but it makes no difference, maybe it's for the screen only?
But if i am lucky, i can bring it back to works for once if i keep tapping it with 2x more force. what i mean is, it will works on one tap after i tapped it for more then 10 times.
maybe the heat accumulated between the "soft button" and the screen protector is causing the reduction in sensitivity.
anyone has any idea?
