[Q] [HELP]Can't use 8MP camera (maxed at 3mp) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I am running the CM10-20121018-NIGHTLY. I noticed once I flashed this rom with the newest gapps, now my camera is maxed out at 3mp instead of 8.
I searched around and read through the forum for the CM10 rom on the development forum. I am not allowed to post there yet i guess, but from what I gathered other people are having this issue too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924561&highlight=3mp+8mp+camera&page=93
Its unclear what they mean by "you can have 8mp camera, or 3mp and picasa sync". I would much rather have the 8mp camera, I don't even use picasa... but I don't know how to go about that. I tried flashing a different version of gapps, but it didn't help. Is there a way to do this and not lose the new gmail app with pinch to zoom? (Or at the very least not have to clear data and reflash the ROM?)
Thanks

flash a different older gapps and then install the latest Gmail Apk I have it

Thanks for the response, I didn't think of going with an older gapps, just tried that, still doesn't let me use 8mp.. :/
It's starting to look like I'm gonna have to clear data and reflash.. Is there a way to uninstall gapps without clearing data?

Camera missing after CM-10 Update

After I updated from CM-9 20120909 to CM-10 20120915, I lost my Camera. Is this a known issue or did I loose a file during update. I pulled the update off Goomanager and flashed through TKRP. Also , what is best 3rd party camera app for the S3? I didn't mind the stock app.
I flashed the CM10 9/15 nightly coming from CM9 and I got a stock camera. You can try re-downloading the file and then re-flashing or you could get this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=slide.cameraZoom.
I don't use it myself, but I have a friend who swears by it.
Not sure on CM9, but on CM10 disabling the gallery app kills the camera.

Thanks! I will take a look later tonight and see if this is my problem. I went ahead and flashed back to CM9 earlier today. I might wait on future CM10 updates. I also started to notice the flicker issues folks were talking about.
I would say try re-downloading CM10. Asides from the camera issue, I've actually noticed less flicker from my download of the CM10 9/15 nightly compared to my old CM9 build. Granted my CM9 build was older than yours (I think 8/25), but from what I understand, CM9 isn't even supposed to have flicker.

I had zero flicker with CM9's current update. I flashed CM10 9/18 last night by doing a complete wipe and factory reset, since camera was missing on the CM10 9/15 I flashed updating from CM9. It's weird , after flashing 9/18 I had camera when I opened up my Gallery , but no camera icon on the homescreen. It seems when I flashed gaapps, I lost the camera option all together. There is a generic camera Icon shortcut on the lockscreen, but it will not open. Am I missing something here ? Gallery is enabled.
Did you flash JB gapps? Since CM10 is based off JB and not ICS that could be it, although I don't see how gapps could affect the camera.
You saved my life!

Problems with camera on CM10

I'm running the current stable version of CM10 and love it except for one problem. The camera sucks now. It will not focus. It seems to be stuck on infinity even though in the settings I've changed it to everything from Auto to macro.
Is it possible to load just the stock camera on top of the CM camera module?

Can't run stock camera on cm due to drivers not playing well together. But U can run the android 4.2 camera. There are flash able zips all over the place for it. Only downside I've seen from it is if flash is on it'll crash gallery but that only happens to some people. Either way its worth a try sense flashing it won't replace the cm camera just runs along side it.

Well, Now it's really broke. I flashed the camera file from your link and when the new camera launches it crashes when I try to take a picture.
So it's gone from bad to worse...
I re-flashed the file 3 times with now the same results. Even the old camera is crashing now.
It's ashamed I can't get this working because I really love CM10 otherwise. Apparently it's just my device though as others seem to not be having this problem.
I feel like a dolt for having to ask this, but where is CM10 for this device? I checked the get cm website, and the development forum here, and couldn't find anything aosp except for miui.
BTW, a broken camera is a hallmark of anything CM.

Here's the link for the Sprint model.

Just browse up a level for different models and "nightlys".
It's great that this forum covers so much but unfortunately it also makes it difficult, even using search, to find anything.

Sounds like something went wrong with the flash. Maybe the lib files were missing.

Could it help to flash one of the recent "Nightlys"?
I've never done that because it's taken me so long to get the layout of all my apps and pages the way I like them. I know there's some way to back that up but that's for another post I guess. Too new to the whole rooting and ROM flashing process...
I don't think I ever had problems with the CM10 default camera, try a clean flash and try again, and yes, the 4.2 camera does fc on the gallery, sadly its the only reason I can't see myself using anything CM based , I love it, but the default camera basically throws the whole ROM off for me

I had the same problem.. sorta.. after snapping off a photo, the camera would just freeze, then warning / pop up stating 'gallery not responding'.. I ended up dumping and starting over. I'm using the CM10 build date of 11/13 and so far so good, camera and gallery working correctly now.

This is a noob question, but does this work like the stock Gallery/Camera combo where you can see your Picasa folders? When I was rooted and using a stock Rom I would always upload immediately to Picasa and delete from SD/phone and still be able to see my pics in the folder. Since I switched to JellyBam Rom, I no longer see anything from Picasa, although I can still upload pics to Picasa. I flashed GAPPS 4.1.2, and everything works on the apps, except for the Picasa/Gallery thing. Any help in figuring this out would be greatly appreciated.

This is correct! Thanks for the heads up on the AT&T SGS III. However since "Action" scene is required to be able to use without freezing users should also note that "Action" scene does not have Flash functionality. (No Pictures in the dark). "Auto" mode still freezing up when Auto-Focusing. I'd say if you want the camera to play with Photosphere and never take pictures in the dark then this APK is for you.
That's is working with no problem on JB 4.1 TW base. And the good part : it not replace the TW camera!

About the 2 gallery's/2 cameras: In your app drawer after flashing the first one is stock, second one is photosphere. Just go to the app info and disable the stocks.

I've been running this for about 3 weeks and I have never had to set the scene to anything in order for it to work I just leave it on Auto. It just worked 100% straight outa flashing.
Also, because of this I have working flash as well.

No, it's not unstable. You did something wrong, or your ROM is interfering.

Sometimes it takes longer than a couple of hours before someone can help.
Anyways, can we have a little more information?
When you downloaded CM10.1, did you do check the md5sum to make sure your download wasn't corrupted somehow?
When installing these various AOSP Roms, did you just wipe /data and /cache?
In past Roms, have you ever tried a camera mod or something that might affect the camera?
Are you using a custom Kernel?
I would try the following:
Verify that your download was complete (md5sum). If not, redownload.
Do a full system wipe. Not just a factory reset. I'm thinking something left over in your /system is interfering with your camera.
I've done all that bro.... no cam mods... nothing... everything is as it should b... and it only happens on AOSP roms for me.. on two different s3's... I don't need a fix I just wanna know if I can just use another camera app.. if so.. can someone lead the way

try downloading an apk for a different camera. also trying making sure you kill all your apps and release some ram. I never had the cam issue but had so laggin issues n what I just explained fixes all that. also when u downloading the rom and installing it. did it give u the option to choose different cameras? like with morph we get to pick which cam app is wanted.

Camera Preview Broken [SlimBean 4.2.2 Build 6]

Camera preview seems to be broken in default camera app.
Swapping back and fourth from front to back camera stretches the preview in a random way.
Swapping from landscape to portrait stretches the preview in a random way.
True mode doesn't help much.
(I wish I could just post in the official thread... post limit sucks)
what exactly have you done to try and troubleshoot this? what kind of wipe did you perform prior to flashing this ROM?

I've tried ending the app, clearing data, true view.
I've tried a full wipe. (wipe davlik, manual format /system, wipe user data, wipe cache)
Then just installed the ROM and gapps.
It's definitely a problem with the SlimBean compiled camera app.
All previous builds worked perfectly.
I noticed some of the same issues on slimbean 6
I'm going to ignore for now because just about everything else in the rom is working fine

Well, it's one of the issues they tried to fix on many different devices, but they seem to have broke it for this build on d2att. I posted it because of this, knowing that it might be a simple fix to push out the old code for a particular device.
