Well i never saw anyone mention this here so here goes. My phone froze on me out of nowhere and i was being too lazy to pull out my case + batt cover to remove the batt so i tried different button combos till i found one that worked! Holding power + Vol up for about 10 seconds reboots the phone! Once it started back up i tried it again n phone rebooted
Edit: I'm on sfhub's oneclick FC22 ics. Not sure if its exclusive to this build so i suggest testing it out and letting me know if it works on other builds as well.

Oh wow, that's awesome!!
I noticed it but I passed it off as something i had just never tried before lol.
You can just hold the power button...
Had it happen to me a couple of times. You don't have to hold vol +, just hold the power button down and it reboots the phone

Power+down for 10 seconds will shut down the phone and go straight to download mode.

You guys are a veritable well of knowledge, thanks for all the great tips!
Lol I never knew this...
I haven't pulled the battery once since I left HTC.
Very nice feature!
This works on pretty much every Android phone.

Well i let my device drain to 0 percent last night. It turned on after i plugged it in to the charger but because it had no battery it died right away. Then the phone would not turn on anymore, all it does when i hold the power button is vibrate. When plugged in the notification light does not work and neither does taking off the battery. Can any 1 help? Is there a way to soft reset the phone?
Plug it in with the battery let it charge for like 3 hours then turn it on

if that doesnt work
hold in the button combo for download mode. (volume down, home, power). when the warning comes up, press VOLUME DOWN it will reboot

Guess we'll never know
I have this awkward problem with my phone since 2 days. My phone does not turn on by pressing the power key, until I connect it with power supply. I don't know what caused this problem. Anybody have any idea about it?

Then phone wouldn't start at all
What do you see when you connect the power supply?
Can you access recovery?
Now everything is normal except for the fact that my display gets on/off after an interval of time. This happens when the phone is in standby mode.

is there any way to restart a frozen phone without pulling the battery? i tried holding the home + power for 30 seconds with nothing but a screenshot. it's sad having to go back to pulling a battery again after all the years of just holding a button down.
and i do understand that the average user won't need to pull a battery as much as we would.

My GN2 just arrived so I haven't had a chance to play with it. But on my HTC Flyer I have to hold down Power and Volume down to reboot.

i've tried multiple times up to 30 seconds with no shutdown. not even while in download. normal samsung devices is 5-10 seconds (at least all my sammy tablets and the other sammy phones). maybe my power button is a bit flaky and i'm not giving it a constant press. i'll look into it. thanks!
If you're looking for the insta-reboot, that has to be baked into the kernel.

thanks. tried all the tips and no forced reboot with any type of button press.
Hey guys.
I had a ultra sensitive power button that kept turning the phone on and off when I was using it.
After doing some searching, I found that a lot of people just had dirty on buttons and i tried to clean mine myself.
Now the button is even more sensitive, it is basically ON all the time. the device will turn on (flash samsung) then show cyanogenmod logo, then turns off. and it repeats this perpetually.
I cant even get into recovery because it turns off the phone too fast.
I think the best way is to disable the power button at this point, does anyone know how to do this?
Can i make my power button from my home button instead?
Thanks!
Pull it out and unsolder it

Oh, right. Well what I did was I pulled it out and that seemed to stop it from rebooting, so try that, if it still doesn't work then desolder and put in a new button
Edit: btw I do not have the device anymore cuz I traded it for a g3
