Hi was just wondering as HTC seems to have messed up the one x by not putting a menu button at the bottom of the phone ,the screen most of the time has a menu button taking up a portion of the screen.
Is there a way you can remap one of the other buttons to act as a menu button and removing this from the screen making the actual useable screen size bigger like on s3 and other phones that have a hard menu button
ie my out going defy had full use off the screen due to a hard menu button ?

You may be interested in the "other" way to do this. Simply hold down the end-call button for a sec or so. You can change it to disconnect the data connection instead or to give you a menu to choose.

Just done this, setting the button to lock, is it possible to change it back to the menu?
Yes. Go to Settings, All Settings, Personal (tab), Buttons, End Key (tab).
Thankyou Fraser.
how can i assign the lock button to be with the Back Button instead of end, so when i press and hold back it lock the device as well ofcourse as returning to home screen
Back in WinMo days I was so happy that i could disable lock screen because I find it very annoying, I really don't need it.
So I was wondering is it possible that when I press power on button that it automatically goes to home screen without need to unlock it first?
I have found few mods for that, but whatever mod(or app) I applied it would also enable power on by trackball or any other hw key(menu, home..) what I don't want since I can accidently press those keys in pocket and than my battery will drain usless!
I have found the mod I need, but it is for EVO 4G, maybe it needs little modification so that it can be applied to our Desire?
on some ROM's you get the optionj where you unlock via power button.. and for the lock screen you can just use Menu button.. I use it.. and very easy, better than the vanilla lock screen
hope this helps!
try searching for No Lock in the market. works dandy for me.
yea same, go with no lock, also has a handy widget

Don't be hard on her. The Power button is hideous: ill designed, hard to locate if you don't have the device in your hand and, to add insult to injury, they chose that place to put the LED notificaction light, something which is supposed to be highly visible.
and also make sure that the back cover is on firmly (clicked in from top to bottom, left and right), as that can make it a little tricky to push the bottom properly.
or to save the hassle of fighting the button, search the market for an app that gives you soft buttons (puts a little sliding menu on the screen, which extends to give you on screen buttons that emulate things like power buttons, home buttons, call buttons, all sorts really)
In such small screens, a row of dedicated buttons like Button Savior is a waste of screen real estate. And she would still have to switch on the phone with the button.

i cant remember what app i tried out, but it only takes up a very tiny tab on the screen. almost unseen. which can be moved to wherever you like. and you could even change if you need to only tap the tab, or hold it, to open up the soft button selection. and if someone is having trouble with the power button, you only need to use the home button to bring the screen back online.
got the new phone but cant reach the menu button with one hand usage, is there a way to map the search button to be the menu button? thanks

But I have never seen it done with them
Guys,
I know it's easy to do when we have root. Also it might already post it somewhere. I couldn't find it.
What the name of the app let me swap the Back and Menu hardware keys for Non-root phone ?
Just picked up the Note 4 this morning.

I don't know of a way to change touchwiz keymapping without root and xposed framework.
but if you're unaware of this, you can actually bring up menu by holding the recent apps key for 1 second
I care more about the back button. I'm holding phone with the left hand and can't reach to the back button

Here's something that may help. Settings > Device > One handed operation > Side Key Panel
It will put a soft key version of the Home/Back/Recents button on the left side of the screen. It's barely visible until you swipe it when needed. I also use my left hand and had problems reaching the "back" button.
i really hate it too!
freaking samsung should atleast give us a option to choose if we want that button to be menu or task manager.

Would either of these work for your situation? One is pie type launcher on screen the other just puts a dedicated back button on the screen? I've been searching for a post I KNOW I saw with a root free app that someone found that'll let you swap the buttons and even assign a hardware button to a function but I just can't relocate it
I'm using ADW launcher. the back button on screen maybe a temp solution
If we have root, this should work fine:
