[Q] HTC Desire stuck at "Wellcome" screen - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I had a problem with my HTC desire (running ICS by Sandvold) after my battery went dead in a middle of a call.
After that I wasn't able to start the phone, I thought that I have to burn the rom again but when trying to do so it gave me and error saying "can't mount /sdcard". I'm not sure what this means. I tried to clear the SD ad put the ROM back from my laptop but still got the same error. When I tried to partition again the SD I couldn't move the ext2 to ext3.
Now, when I boot normaly I get the "Wellcome" screen that apear when you first enter the ICS but when pressing on the "start" the phone hangs! Sometimes it only shows the time and battery status. sometimes, nothing...
Unfortunally the USB debug mode is not enabled and I'm not sure how can I enable it from outside the phone.
For now it seems like I "bricked" the phone somehow although I still have recovery boot.
Any help will be much appritiated!!!
Thanks a lot,
Uri

Error mounting SDCard

Hi i have an HTC Desire running a custom rom. I had amon RA and yesterday i have flash Clockmod recovery through fastboot. After rebooting it keep up booting on the flash screen. I have formated my sd card and try to re-install a custom rom but i'm getting an error. E:can't mount/dev/block/mmcb1k0p1( No such file or directory.Error mounting SDCard! I am trying to mount the sdcard through clockmod but still the same error. i was thinking may be the card is not good. I bought another card but still the same. Pls can someone help me to sort that out.
My Desire is s-off with Hboot 0.93
Sounding like the SDcard is "deactivated". Maybe it's the usb-brick? Try a search for that. I think there was anything about reactivatIng SDcard...

Hi.
I juste encountered today the exact same problem : After a Nand back-up using CWM, I discovered that nothing had been written on the SD-Card.
Whan I tried to reboot, I entered into a boot loop.
Back in recovery, I had no mean to mount /sdcard or /sd-ext : I always get an error message "Can't mount ..."
I am S-OFF, Hboot 0.93.
Any help ?
can't mount sdcard
hi today i have bought another sd card. Formated and partition it using gparted. put the card on my phone et voila the phone boot normally and enter the OS. But the card problem is still there and i can access all the apps on the phone. setting is no longer available on the phone. Any idea how can we sort that as i can see a lot of people is encountering this issue. there is no one who can address this issue?
i have got a link to that forum and have try to follow the instructions but stuck on the first step. It says you must root your phone as mine is already rooted but may be we have to re-root it. While connecting my phone i'm getting found new hardware: Qualcomm cdma. I have search the net and downloaded and install activesyn but can't found the phone. I am unable to root it. Any suggestion?
Same problem here although I have a htc explorer. I continuously have to keep reinstalling my Rom and formatting my sd card. Its probably because of software bugs
is your phone say "sd card removed. please insert a new one"?
if yes, try to backup your data and format the SD card with CWM Recovery.
mine was back to normal after partitioned by CWM

Don't waste your money on sd cards. You should get an sd card adapter/reader to format your card using your computer. Sometimes the format option on mobiles do not function properly.

As long as your sd is readable by your computer, you should be able to mount your sd card using cwm recovery

Enable the SD Card functionality. Boot your phone in FASTBOOT mode (back + power), and enter this command: 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' . This will re-enable your SD card."
I have a CDMA Desire that would not read the sd card. I tried all the different tutorials I could find, but nothing worked. I finally ended up taking the phone apart, and there was a connection right beside the sd card slot that was partially disconnected. I reconnected that and everything works fine now.
Seems like connections disconnect fairly often with the desire (GPS, LED, SD card, etc..) so if nothing else works and you are comfortable taking your phone apart, you could try that.
Here is a video of how to disassemble the phone.

[Q] Unroot without SD card?

Hey guys....first off, you guys all do great work as this is the first question I've needed to ask that I couldn't find the answers for....so my problem is I've been rooted for the last 5 months and I was making a NANDROID back up in recovery, went to reboot the phone and got the dreaded 5-vibrate, green LED error. I've searched all over and see that there really is no fix for that. My replacement is already here and I'm sending the old one back tomorrow. Problem is, the phone can't access the SD card so I can't put S-On......in hboot the phone does say S-on but I can boot it up if its plugged in through USB (and of course OMFGB boots up).
I've looked through these forums and found some similar results for unrooting without an SD card, but nothing seems to work. My laptop doesn't detect internal storage or SD card.......so do I just have to hope the factory doesn't get the phone to boot (if they dont try with it plugged in it won't)? Or is there some way you could download a file from the phone browser that could be applied??
Thanks in advance
To get s-on you could try using z4root. It has an unroot option

Can you not download the windows installer of the stock ROM? The RUU can be found here and just hook your phone up via USB cable and load it up
I don't think you need an SD card for that.
Worth a shot
Well the problem was my computer wouldn't recognize the phone either, would just say something like "qualcomm device" then would error out after a few seconds. Once my replacement got here I put the stock ROM on the SD card and tried again with the defective phone and, miraculously, it unrooted........thanks for your advice!

Can't find SD card

I've just installed my first ROM ICJ 4.2.2 which is great. Apart from the fact when I plug my phone into PC it won't show up to put music photos etc on. And in the storage settings it says I only have 468mb free on external storage. I have been into recovery and tried to mount the SD but nothings working. Please help sorry if extremely noob question.

this happened to me last week actually. When I went to settings/storage it only showed up the app storage and not the internal storage.
What I did was a bit extreme and scary, since I only just started flashing roms 2 weeks ago. I did a factory reset and wiped EVERYTHING in recovery including the sdcard and system, then I used an all-in-one toolkit to push the boot image and the rom through adb sideload. I used the following excellent post and flashed twrp recovery, as clockworkmod doesn't support adb sideload, apparently, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904
Maybe as a last resort you could do it, it worked for me. but I would wait a day or two to see if someone with a bit more knowledge can suggest anything.
Thank you for you help i can see sd storage the seetings>apps but it only says 468mb is there anything else i do or will have have to wipe and start again??

That 468MB is your app storage partition... (apk)
Mount your usb storage from a custom recovery and backup the whole SD on your pc, then boot into the rom and mount the SD on your PC then restore all the files.
Or simply, move all SD content into the "0" folder or whatever its called in your rom.

How did you sideload the boot.img?
AFAIK you're only able to sideload a .zip-file.

Didn't word that correctly, the toolkit flashed the boot image in fastboot and then pushed the rom through sideload. I don't use toolkits now though, find it much easier using fastboot and adb commands

Bootloop white screen + htc logo (ext4 recovery still working) can't install from sd

Hey everyone,
I got an htc desire from a friend which get's during booting in a withe screen with the htc logo.
The device is S-OFF and running 6.93.1002 HBOOT
I can still access the ext4recovery but when i starts it says "error mounting your sdcard" nevertheless i tried to install from sd card which of course did not work.
I read something about a usb brick in connection with the sdcard error. The solution started with connecting the phone via adb which i cant get to work. I installed the fastboot driver manually but the adb shell still says device not found.
Could someone pleas give an advice how to go on or which tutorial i should read to progress.
thx

4ext recovery has a "USB unbrick" option in the "Advanced" submenu. Try it. If it still doesn't work, try another sd-card.

I tried it but it still dosen't work. I don't have an other sd card at the moment but it works fine with my card reader an my Samsung Galaxy Note.
Could the card still be the problem?
And for some reason the phone gets quite hot when it just stays in ext4 recovery or bootloader.

It gets hot, eh?
Take the battery out, put the phone in the freezer for 10 minutes, then try to boot. If this works, then your phone is overheating, which is caused by a malfunctioning motherboard.
But that still wouldn't explain the sd-card problems. What brand & class is your sd-card?

It's an 2GB Kingston Micro SD.
I'll try to reproduce the heating i'm not jet sure if it happens every time.
Get yourself a new sd card with a higher class. Should fix your issues.

[Q] MicroSD card not recognized in Android, CWM it is

As title states. I recently bought a used R800x to use as a gaming phone, everything was working peachy until last night. SD card wont mount, the backplate is on tight so the white switch is being pressed down. I have tried stock roms, I have reformatted the card 3 times, I have tried another card, same issue. I have tried custom roms, same result. Going to storage on the phone shows sd card not present and unable to connect to it via PC from within the phone after booting up. However if I go into recovery and mount no problems there. I was begining to think the microsd slot is shot but if that was the case it wouldnt connect at all CWM or not. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue or some suggestions?
So even when you press the switch down still nothing?

That's what was happening.. I got it solved, somehow my phone stopped seeing the 2nd partition, ext3 from link2sd. I have to remove all partitions and reformat, only then did it see the card again, not sure why it did that. When the card was inserted with the ex3 parttion it saw it no problem for days then suddenly would not see the sdcard until I removed and formatted everything.
I had to start from scratch on a ftf again but all is working, sd card and all.
