It am using paranoid as my daily rom. And i am deciding to turn to aokp since paranoid is battery consuming.
And i know all roms are good to wipe before update. BUT is it possible to upgrade from aokp to newer version of aokp without wiping, and its still perfectly work, anyone try tho?

It may or may not work, try it yourself.
Personally, i don't have much success recently.

you can sometimes get away with not wiping data, but occasionally when there is a large change to system files like the upcoming changes between build 4 and build 5 it is recommended to do a full wipe then install as there is a good chance that some of the new features may not work. Aokp has always said you may or may not wipe its up to you but its always recommended to wipe

For someone with battery issues, a wipe may be what the doctor ordered.
good day.
As for me who uses AOKP for months and months now, AOKP will always indicate if it needs wipe or not, but personally I'd like wipe and reinstall to prevent any possible problem

AOKP ICS is great, but if you're asking for JB version, then AOKP at the current moment is not the best choice.

what da fuq you talking about? Sounds like operator error.
good day.
Been running AOKP since build 2. As mentioned by others, its really up to you whether or not you want to do a full wipe between updates of the same ROM.
So far, I have dirty flashed between builds 2-3-4 and haven't had any issues. I always wipe cache and dalvik. You can give it a chance yourself, but if you end up having issues, you will know that you need to do a clean installation.
As for the stability of AOKP JB, it's been very smooth for me with excellent battery life (3.5 - 4 hours of SCREEN-ON time, about 16-18 hours uptime)

I am interested in running some ROM's on my galaxy nexus but I have a few questions:
I am looking at Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast 4.1 ROM, I know that he does nightly builds, so my question being: If I install a build today, and he releases a nightly tomorrow or an upgrade, do I have to completely wipe and reflash the build nightly in order for it to stay up to date? Or is there a way to just update the build without losing everything.
Are ROM's safe? I know that they say to stay away from things like this but I feel like I can get the most out of my device by using a custom ROM.
If I don't go with a bugless beast ROM I am looking for something that is AS CLOSE to stock as possible, no added bloatware, I don't need all the fancy menu tweaks, custom kernals (which I guess I just dont understand exactly what a custom kernal does)
Any comments would be appreciated.
You can dirty flash them (flash it directly without wiping) and most of the time it will work without issues. If it doesn't then you will have to wipe then reflash.
ROMs are perfectly safe, and it's pretty hard to actually brick your phone. I'd say that custom ROMs offer customisation more than anything else but that's probably me.
Cyanogenmod is very well known in the community (and is rock solid) as well as AOKP (offers much more customisability at the moment).
Custom roms can help extend the life of a device. I know that I would have gotten tired of my previous phone, the Samsung Captivate, a lot sooner than I did if I hadn't flashed ICS onto it. Roms are completely safe. You just want to make sure you read up on how to fix a boot loop, or soft brick if you do end up in the situation. Make backups, have a plan B set and flash away. Definitely don't just go flashing stuff haphazardly, that's how you can mess up your phone.
You don't have to wipe when flashing nightlies on the same ROM. You don't lose data, its just like an update ota. you only have to wipe when switching between different ROMs.
Roms= 100% better than stock

A little advice...keep more than one ROM on your SD card just in case.

As a few others said, you don't have to wipe switching between nightly builds. To flash the next version of BB, just clear cache & dalvik.
Since I can't post in thread because of requirements ill post here. Tried DSV04 #1&2 for ParanoidAndroid Hercules port, stays stuck @ Paranoid. Did wipe for both and waited over 10min. Just in case anyone was wondering if it worked since its CM9 based and yes I know it was only tested on a nightly which he stated in the OP, just testing in case others wanted to know. BTW Thanks for the Kernels, and Roms. Your Contributions to the community are always appreciated.

1. factory reset
2. wipe dalvik cache
3. Darkside Superwipe
4. Flash ICS radio
5. Flash Rom
6. Flash Gapps (for cm9 or aokp)
7. Flash kernel (optional)
8. Flash Darkside Cache Wipe.
9. Reboot wait for 10 min.
10. Reboot again.
11. enjoy
Follow these steps and you can never go wrong
I'm guessing you guys got it to work on your devices?. That is If you guys are posting the most obvious steps. I did all required steps in OP before flashing or posting this thread just posting my findings, Figured it just didn't play well with my hardware and seeing if anyone else got it to play nice with Paranoid since its been a Stable Rom, was looking for a bit more juice that's it..

DSV4 Kernel #3 works with it but borks camera, constant force close issues any suggestions? Running paranoid with the kernel on badass +cpu sleeper+underclocked to 1080 is giving me awesome life. For what I do on my phone at least.

Have you tried running it on the Skyrocket version? I believe the DSV04 was made for a newer version CM9 than what the Starskyrob version of PA. I heard that skyrocket pa + DSV04 + rotation fix = $$$
Nandroid and try it out.
That's been on my mind lately since the skyrockets is more up to date but I like to keep things simple. Ima give it a go though and see how it compares.

I've been looking for answers but can't find info, I apologize if these are redundant
1. If I update to cm10 either task rom or cyanogen rom and kernel... I assume I can just revert to cwm backup without worry of losing imei ?
2. Once I update to cm10 / kernel... when there are NEW UPDATES can I just flash the updates without losing data/apps and having to reinstall or will I have to redo Config/apps/settings/data after each update??
3. Are the cm10 roms reliable and stable enough to be used as daily driver? I'm sick of stock battery life and SERIOUS LAG from touchwiz
4. How does the task cm10 rom compare to task ics rom? I tried the task ics rom but honestly found it too buggy for my liking...is the jb rooms more stable since more work has been put I to it??
Thanks alot!!!! I appreciate it!

1. You know what happens when you ass-u-me? There is always a risk.
2. You do not have to wipe data. Just cache and then fix permissions. Your settings will still be there. Unless the developer says you need a full wipe that is.
3, 4. Idk about CM10, I prefer Tasks JB AOKP. The ICS ROMS were abandoned because JB was released. I use it as a daily driver and the only issue I have is slight screen flickering which is fixed by disabling HW overlays.
Lastly, only bump your thread after 24 hours.

You don't lose CWM, nor update modem. There is no IMEI loss. You'd need full data wipe.

You will need to flash update and gapps each time. No data wipe needed.

No. I use CM9. I also have enriched CM9 ROM - Nostalgia 8.
4. How does the task cm10 rom compare to task ics rom? I tried the task ics rom but honestly found it too buggy for my liking...is the jb rooms more stable since more work has been put I to it??
AOKP in both versions was extremely buggy for me. Plus task is rough individual and getting support is nearly impossible.
SlimJB holds the hope, but it is still somewhat buggy. Try SlimJB or CM9 - they were least problematic.
Is it me or does it seem like 4.2.2 is choppy as hell? Seems like 4.1 was more buttery smooth or maybe its my phone just curious to see if others agree.

task or AOKP? what release? fyi, latest release ships with 3.4 kernel so expect some things to be worked out. if you just flashed, did you full wipe?
Depends on your ROM.
For me, I'm using ParanoidKANGdroid, and it's nice.
worked ok for me unless underclocked or otherwise only using lower cpu speeds. check your cpu speeds or maybe adjust clock speeds and go from there. max of 1000ish should work fine. id try that first. then make surr you installed right. doesnt hurt to wipe and reflash your data only portion of backup that you make ahead of time
4.2.2 Slim Bean set to stock DPI. Smooth as heck. Maybe you need a full wipe & re-flash..
Using BMS kernel at ~1.8ghz and battery is also great.
have not tried slim im usually on aokp or cm as far as my install I wipe date / factory reset, wipe cache, wipe davlik and sometimes format system!! guess ill try different roms!! thanks

I'd recommend flashing lots of ROMs to find the best fit. Additionally, I would be sure to read the thread OPs to ensure you follow the correct installation instructions.
Personally, 4.2.2 has been superb. Choppy would be far from my description.

I flashed slim 4.2.2 an its super smooth!! when I say choppy its more with home screens and backing out of apps kinda like u see on a 60hrz lcd compared to 120hrz refresh rate but scrolling on a web page is smooth... but its all good thanks for the input!!
I'm not sure about SlimBean, but most AOSP ROMs have transitioned to a 3.4 kernel. It is very new in development and improving daily.
Of course it is gonna be choppy. This is a development forum which means all things are a WIP. Feel free to dig in and help fix it.
Hi Friends,
I am currently running Dirty Unicorns ROM (Android 4.4.2) in my Galaxy S2 T989. I wanted to switch to Cynogenmod 10.2 which would be Android 4.3.
1) Please let me know whether we can go from 4.4.2 to 4.3 or it has a chance of giving problems while installation of CM.
2) I am thinking that I can simply put the CM 10.2 zip and GAPPS on my external SD and boot into recovery(I'm having CWM recovery) to install the CM 10.2 after wiping data and cache. Correct me If there is any other step to follow to switch to CM from other ROMs.
3) Gonna take a backup of user apps using Titanium backup in Dirty Unicorns 4.4.2 and restore those user apps after installing CM 10.2. Please let me know if this works.
Thanks in advance.

It should work if you wipe system, cache, Dalvik cache, and Android secure. Restoring apps might not work. Why go from 4.4 to 4.3? Anything you don't like?

You shouldn't have any problems downgrading if you follow these instructions. However, I will tell you that Cyanogenmod 10.2 stable didn't have the greatest performance on my Hercules - I had a slow lockscreen wakeup and some laggy audio. You might try 10.2 and see if it works any better for you, but I've been much happier with the performance of CM 10.1.3 stable.

Is it! I'm even fine to go to CM 10.1.3. S2 Hercules is my friend's phone and it's me who has changed the ROM to dirty unicorns but now he is not happy with the bugs.
I own a Galaxy S3 running CM 10.2. It's just awesome and super fast so that's the reason I planned for CM 10.2 for S2 Hercules too.
Does CM 10.1.3 have Apollo music player?

CM 10.1.3 does have Apollo! I didn't spend much time on 10.2, but 10.1.3 seems to have every feature from 10.2 (aside from the android version number of course). The difference in speed and responsiveness from stock has been great for me.

I've mostly tried out Jelly Bean ROMs, and as far as JB goes I'd have to say Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 has been my favorite for its simplicity and performance. However, if you're looking for much more customization, AOKP Jelly Bean MR1 Milestone was very stable and performed similarly well to CM. Haven't tried many KitKat ROMs yet, but the new SlimKat release as well as Paranoid Android Legacy seemed great. I stayed with CM for now though.

Nope, when you flash a ROM it'll come with it's own kernel. You can search XDA for a custom kernel (usually includes overclocking features, tweaks, etc), but I've never used a custom one personally. Enjoy!

That's the exact reason I moved to cm 10.1.3, lock screen lag is nearly nonexistent. Still not quite as snappy as stock, but the best I've found in a custom rom.
