full wipe - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

how do i do full wipe to my phone if wipe cache and delvik cache is not enoug?
it won't delete the backup i'm doing to the current rom?
thanks

You won't delete your backup or anything on your internal memory unless you wipe sdcard.
A full wipe is: wipe cache and dalvik, factory reset, format data and format system.
You will lose all your apps and your settings.

Format all zip?

With the format all zip, do you just nandroid backup, wipe, flash format all zip, then flash new rom?

There's no need to wipe if you are using the format all zip but it won't hurt anything.
Well no need to wipe, since that is what the zip will do, but you can if you want to.
I don't think the format all zip wipes dalvik cache. At least when I flash it, and it shows what its doing, it says formatting data, formatting boot, formatting system, and formatting cache. Never says dalvik, so i'd at least be sure to additionally wipe dalvik cache.

Also, if you have your sd card partitioned, I don't think it wipes sd ext.

Dalvik cache is by default in /data. So when it says formatting data, the dalvik is being wiped as well.

Full wipe?

I've done some searches but I can't find details of exactly what is involved in a full wipe.
What constitutes a full wipe?

Also wipe boot partition and possibly other system files stored on sd card other than .android_secure.
If you select the wipe data/factory reset and then wipe all partitions except sd card option it does the same thing. Just be sure to flash something that restores boot partition as having no boot image can result in a "stuck" device.

Install 4ext recovery from www.4ext.net. Boot into recovery, select 'wipe/format' -> 'format all partitions (except SD card)'.
Wiping the boot, system, data, cache partitions & .android_secure folder is what constitutes a full wipe. With 4ext recovery you can full wipe at once using the above option.

[Q] Rom updating w/o losing data?

Updating aokp for example, the aokp updater told me about the update but is it the same process as installing for the first time? Will I lose my apps and everything or does it only wipe cache? What step in roms delete everything, format data or factory reset or both?
Cheers.
No wipe needed if updating.I recommend wiping cache and dalvik-cache for good measure tho. And you have to reinstall gapps after the rom as well.
When a wipe is needed you want to select factory reset. Never select wipe/format data as it'll wipe the internal storage too.
Then what about...
If you are already on AOKP and doing an update:
1. Make a nandroid (backup in CWM)
2. Format /system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Install new ROM zip
6. Install gapps
If you end up with issue or coming from another ROM, do this:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Format /system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Install new ROM zip
6. Install gapps

Isn't a Format/system wiping the apps? Or does that not affect the apps? By format on my recovery it says formatting the sd card deletes everything (on TWRP).
Cheers.

TWRP Quick question

If I need to wipe Data, Factory reset, and dalvik cache, are the respective names in TWRP: Factory reset, format data, and dalvik cache? First time using TWRP and only really confused on the data part.
I think they are under the wipe tab. But i don't remember because i use the super wipe.zip. it does it for me. I think MMuzzy has it for download on his thread.

Yeah but what I meant is that the wipe data, is named format data in TWRP right?
No. Wipe cache, davlik, factory reset, and system. Format data format the entire SD card

[Q] Full wipe

Hi,
I'm using CMW 6.x and already wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache, but application folder's was not delete.
For example: I use app Pocket Cast to download and listen to podcasts. When I wipe all data by CMW, this folder was not deleted.
So, how can I wipe all data on my android? Wipe all data like a get smartphone for the first time.
Thanks for help and sorry by my english.

You need to format sd card in mounts and storage, but make sure you have a rom installed on the phone as formatting the sd card will delete all zip files too.
