Exactly why I don't intend to use it unless some dev can hack it to work on rooted phones. I already use Google Wallet and it would be nice to have another option since PayPass isn't used in many mainline stores yet.

Yes. I tried temp unrooting through Superuser, but that didn't work either. I agree, Google Wallet is better anyway. You can use any card with it. ISIS only works with Chase or AMEX at the moment.

You get 25 bucks for signing up.. on AT&T at least.. and it will not, I repeat, will not work on rooted devices. It's not even available in the play store. After I registered and got the SIM, it wouldn't work so I unrooted my i747, as I live in salt lake city, and I received the 25 bucks used it, and rooted it again. Google wallet IS a lot better though.
The card companies really ought to put pressure on the carriers to allow Google Wallet, seeing as more of the major players are on-board with it. Or maybe they should learn from Microsoft + IE's anti-trust issues - even IE isn't as bad in the sense that you can use IE to download another browser - it would be comparable if the carriers made ISIS bloatware that you couldn't uninstall - but they go a step further and bar you from using an alternative. I call BS.
I think ISIS is making their service too much about branding the experience - this "ISIS Ready" business when you can use it any place that accepts NFC already (payWave, PayPass, etc).
I've been using NFC in my card at my local grocery store for several years - personally I feel it encourages adoption to let people know clearly that they can use the Wallet anywhere they already might "tap" their card - and that it's the same process (ie, I must select "credit" even though the card is attached to my checking account). Promoting a brand is great and important - but so is integrating with your costumers' lives in a way that doesn't confuse and segment their ideas about NFC payment terminals.
I dunno, maybe average people are more n00bish than I am and have never used NFC in a card and need a pat on the back to know "yes, your ISIS-thingy will work here". But, still, ISIS ? WTF does a mobile wallet have to do with an Egyptian goddess who pieced her dead husband's body-parts back together ? At least name it after a deity of wealth or something awesome.

Anyone know if Google Wallet will be able to be ported over to the Galaxy Nexus? I'm going to miss being able to use my phone to pay for things, as I've grown somewhat accustomed to being able to do it. lol I love going to Dairy Queen, or Best Buy, or the drug store and just tapping my phone. I'd love to be able to do it on the Galaxy Nexus.

Should not need to be ported, GNex has NFC
NFC is just a chip. You still need the software to use it. For example, I used Google Wallet on my Nexus S (which has a NFC chip). Without software to use the NFC chip with, it's useless. In other words, you have to have some sort of payment software on the phone in order to make use of the NFC as a form of payment.

NFC is a chip. Google Wallet is an app that lets you use NFC for payments.
For example, only the Sprint Nexus S 4G officially has google wallet. The T-mo Nexus S doesn't. Neither do the SGSII varieties with NFC.
OP, I'd assume that once they have it working for ICS they'll make it happen with an update, but I'm not sure whats holding them from just launching with it.... then again they still haven't given it to the T-mo Nexus S lol so idk what's going on.
I'm really looking forward to Google Wallet too.
While there has been no official announcement, I don't ever think the Verizon version will ever see Google Wallet. Verizon has teamed up with T-Mobile and AT&T to put together Isis, a competitor to Google Wallet. Thats why we only see Google Wallet or Sprint.

Yeah you would think that "officially" you'd be able to do it. Heck all Google would have to do is just put the app in the market to be downloaded and they wouldn't have to deal with the carriers at all (I think lol). But hey, gotta love the guys here at XDA, that got us around all that and brought it to the tmobile nexus. I'm just hoping it can be done on the Galaxy Nexus too.
Consider yourselves lucky that you can even use a hacked version on your phones.
What about us poor saps in Australia who can install the app and use it, but can't add any funds to it. I really don't understand why Google choose to operate like this.

It's a US-only service, yes. It's just an app so nothing is stopping them from supporting it on the GSM/HSPA version.
I thought the Google Wallet app just makes sure the credit card data travels a save way from the NFC sender to NFC receiver. I don't see how it'd be US-centric, when there's no mobile data involved in the transaction, since Google said that it doesn't require a data connection.
Also, I've read people in Germany using their German T-Mobile Nexus S to pay at the very few Paypass terminals in that country.

I meant it as in "the service is currently available in the US only". As far as I know Google has only officially launched the service in the US as of yet. That could just have been a marketing thing though. I'm not sure if it works fine if a seller outside the US just plugs in a comatible NFC-enabled terminal.
Actually, the relevant standard is called Paypass and used outside of the US. In Europe, there's various sort of cards being distributed by Visa, Mastercard and sorts. But apparently there's a RFID version of Paypass, and a superset that does NFC. The current distributed cards are RFID. But there appear to be NFC capable terminals in at least Germany.
From what I could gather, Google Wallet does Paypass NFC. It seems mostly a matter of getting it to install and run on a phone that's not the Spring Nexus S.

Interesting. So it's nothing specific needed on the merchant's side other than an NFC-compatible paypass terminal? How does the service work software wise? They could very well have limits on the cards you can use it with.

This is the same thing that I was thinking. This is supposed to be the flagship device...you'd think it would already have Wallet on it...or at least have it available.
Here's a 17-yo Brit's contribution to this (and his first ever to the Android communication - received my first Android phone 3 days ago!):
Google Wallet can be "enticed" to run on the Galaxy Nexus. I'm still waiting for an attempt to test it, so we may find out if it works on Monday.
I used the "googlewalletfix_1.1R38v5_ICS_aok.zip" file (no credit to me - found it elsewhere on these forums) - I did the following (with MoDaCo custom ROM):
Flashed MoDaCo, flashed googlewalletfix, reboot to "proper"
Found Google Wallet wasn't installed
Open root terminal, cd to /mnt/sdcard/gw/
mount -o remount,rw /data/system
cp system/app/NfcGoogle.apk /system/app/NfcGoogle.apk # this is probably a terrible, terrible thing to do to your phone. Turn NFC off first and cross your fingers!
cp system/app/Wallet.apk /system/app/Wallet.apk
I saw some logcat entries telling me it was doing something with my newly positioned apk and lo-and-behold, Wallet was installed and would allow me to get a prepaid Google card!
I attached some pretty pictures taken using the Dalvik Debug Monitor.

Ok, but could you please elaborate on that ? What have you actually tried, what happened, etc. etc. ?
You get a credit card with a valid address, postal code, even a phone number.
While this may all look ok while you're entering it in, when you actually go to add the funds, it says that it didn't work and asks you to try again.
There is no error code, it just asks you to do it again. I have tried it repeatedly with all manner of combinations of getting the address right etc.

I don't have a hacked wallet app. I don't think it matters much though since I think the problem lays with the type of card used. But anyway my main reason for trying this is to be able to buy music and rent movies, I hope they aren't so strict there.

A social security number may be needed now...
Isn't it launching in UK for the Olympics? You might not have to wait much longer. On a side note, I have been using Google Wallet on my GN in US for a few weeks now and while it's absolutely awesome/futurisitic to use, it's surprising how few places take it here (I'm in NYC!). Google only has a very small number of partners and even the # of Mastercard PayPass locations is suprisingly small.
Hopefully things will pick up.
I'm just looking forward to an official Canadian launch soon. I have seen a lot of terminals that i could pay at using a GNEx
Okay, let me confirm some suspicions.
I can confirm that this method is working with a $25 Vanilla Mastercard (I'm located in Canada)
Second, a Social Security Number is only required after topping up more than two times. (Unconfirmed by me, but was stated in this thread)

The reason enter billing adresses to credit card payments is to verify your identity, obviously if your address on file with google doesnt match your cc billing adress thats on file with your bank, it will get declined. The reason vanilla works is because there is no address attached to it since you dont get billed, so you just create a fictive address with matching zip code you manually registered.
I just used my prepaid funds at a McDonald's in Brampton, Ontario and it was amazing, lol. I'm rooted by the way and used in no problem even with the unsupported device message.

Do you have a link to an up-to-date Market Enabler? Something that works with Jelly Bean and the Play Store? I've been digging through threads looking for one, and I can't find an official thread for one. Try to add money to your Google prepaid card. It did not work for me, even if my Canadian Visa has a US billing address. I think it detects the institution who released the card and blocks it. I purchased my Nexus directly from Google Play, using the same card. From what I heard, they detect also if your phone is rooted or non-stock ROM:
We strongly discourage gaining system-level "root" access to your phone if you plan to use Google Wallet. We are unable to support devices with unauthorized operating systems as the security layers of the device may be limited.

Do you really think Google is that stupid to allow adding a credit card with a fake address like others are trying to do?
Anyways, I have a Canadian credit card with an official US billing address on it. Guess what, Wallet does not work at all on Bell. Even if I put my T-Mobile SIM card on the phone, I'm pretty sure it will not work also with a Canadian card as the financial institution is not registered into Google's Money Network.
We have to wait like every one else... until Google decides to open Wallet in Canada, if it will.
At the rate they open products in Canada, we should have it enabled in about 10 years.
Ya I agree. Its stupid. Sorry Google but USA isn't the only country in the world. This the usa likes to think so. Lol

Yep. Pretty damn awesome!
This is freaking awesome. Now I don't have to constantly top up the pre-paid card.
No Amex cash back bonus... Last thing they need to fix
Nevermind: Verizon users can install directly from this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.walletnfcrel&hl=en
I successfully added a non-US VISA card, but it won't let me use it on an actual PayPass-compatible terminal. It wasn't working with the prepaid card, mind you, so I'm not even sure it matters. I'm planning to go to the US in late september, I'll check if it works there.

Hmm, I wonder if this is also for other rewards cards?
I might only use it for my debit card as it doesn't have rewards.

It will work for some rewards cards but it won't port over categories like gas and groceries for AMEX.
It keeps saying it can't add my card. I'm guessing it's the secure element thing still. Oh well.

The new google wallet no longer uses the secure element. Make sure you reset google wallet via the in app interface before uninstalling any previous version, modded or not.

Google wallet now supports the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. You can get the new version directly from market.

Did you try wiping data after the update? thats what I had to do. My card is added, but will have to test later.
Ok, got the app working on a Vodafone GSM Galaxy Nexus, added both a Visa and a Mastercard with a US address, but when I touch the Select card below the respective card, a pop-up appears: "Error Please try again.". Ideas ?
Is there a list of store to see who takes this?
Could someone pull the apk for us internationals to download? Please?
Just use Market Enabler from Play to switch to T-Mobile, then the app will become visible in Play and you can carry on from there.
As for the "Error, Please try again" when trying to set a Visa/Mastercard as Enabled ? Anyone ?
Yeah, I did a fresh install and reset within the app. Still a no go through. I'll try and wipe data within settings. I really hope I can get it working since I never got it working on the Wallet app before.
