hey guys
when i connect my note 2 to the com via usb cable the com does not recognize my device and failes to install it.
i tried to install kies but no success with that to.
what can i do? plz help me
It sounds like your usb port is broken to me...
Have you tried some other port? Have you tried connecting some other "mass storage" device? Not mouse or keybord. Mass storage
yes man sure i tried! the usb port is fine and work with everything.
my computer indicates that i connected the device but cannot install it and thats why i cannot transfer files etc
With ICS and upper, Google remove UMS and use MTP instead for connection to PC On Windows Seven, it's works quite well, on XP, you must install Media Player 11 or MTP installation failed. I don't know how it's works under Linux.

To change modes plug the usb cable from phone to computer and pull the pulldown down
and you will see "connected as a media device" click on it and will be able to change it to
"Camera PTP" or "Media Device MTP". (Media device PTP is mass storage mode)
Be sure that you have the latest samsung usb drivers installed in your computer.
If you don't have it installed or if you don't see the options then that means that
either the usb drivers are not installed or the usb cable or the usb port is not
functioning properly.
Good luck!

Doing that makes it show up as a camera. Which is fine I guess, but probably just for applications on the computer that don't know how to read MTP. Neither is actually USB Mass Storage though.
Either will let you copy files to/from the device in Windows. OSX seems to need MTP and the little application Google makes available.
When people ask about UMS, they usually want to connect to something that's not a computer, like a car radio that can play music/video from a flash stick. Those devices won't support MTP/PTP. I am not aware of any way to get normal UMS to work on a Note3. Last I heard, people determined that a kernel mod needed to happen, and even if that does, the device might get angry if you take its storage away as it won't expect that. The external could probably be done without too much hassle, but the internal would be weird. And probably won't work anyway as it's an ext4 format, so only Linux devices could mount it anyway.
How To Get Windows 8.1 To Recognise USB Mass Storage On Your Phone
I have had the problem for ages that when I connected my Samsung Galaxy GT-S5360 into my Windows 8.1 PC nothing happened - Windows 8.1 simply refused to recognise the device - not even anything in device manager - nothing - nada
However it would recognise the phone if I set the phone to download mode - but I want to use my phone as mass storage
Well after months of trying I finally found a really stupid solution
Solution
Install the usb drivers for your phone as normal
connect the phone to pc via usb cable (nothing happens other then a few beeps as normal)
now plug in any usb dongle that you have already installed on your pc - like a usb wireless mouse dongle
suddenly windows detects the phone and you can now set your phone to mass storage from the phone status bar
Every time you want to connect your phone in mass storage just plug it in then plug in the other usb dongle after
My Device never getting error like that on my Windows 8.1 Laptop

it maybe the brand of laptop too and the chipset of the laptop - there have been lots of problems with usb devices with windows 8.1 and inbuilt bluetooth too although manufacturers quickly released new bluetooth drivers as the windows 8 ones didnt work in windows 8.1
so this is just for those who have problems with their particular laptop
Similar Issue with Samsung Galaxy S
I had a similar problem when I needed to copy some files onto a Galaxy S. In the past, I had to ensure that USB Debugging was off, connect the USB cable and then select Mass Storage on the smartphone. Win 8.1 Explorer did not see the device although it showed up as SAMSUNG_Android in Eject Media and Device Manager had the phone listed under Universal Serial Device. I was able to access the phone on one laptop by selecting Samsung Kies as the connection method (showed up in Explorer under the device type rather than a drive letter) but this did not work on another laptop.
The steps described in "How to connect Android devices to PC with USB Mass Storage Mode" on device-recovery.com worked for me on both Win 8.1 laptops: enable USB Debugging, connect the phone, pull down the status bar, tap on the USB Connected entry and then Mass Storage.

What you said will not work for this phone because when you plug it into a windows 8.1 laptop the option to select connect to mass storage in status bar is not there - It just shows the phone as charging
The only way iv found on a windows 8.1 laptop with this issue (note it depends on your hardware to weather you have this problem) is to plug the phone into the laptop then plug any other dongle in - the option to then connect to mass storage suddenly appears in the status bar and you can connect as normal
Im having problems trying to transfer files from my pc to my tab. my pc wont recognise the tab as an MTP device, but in the usb setting it is checked to connect as MTP. my cable is fine and the usb on my computer is fine, the pc does "see" the tab because it comes up as a connected camera but refuses to connect as media device. anyone know what i should do ?
In lieu of a better answer: Kies air. It sucks but it works and I am unaware of other alternatives.

Are you using a custom ROM? I read that it has been a problem in some builds but is now fixed, so if you are using a CM11 ROM make sure you update it.

In some cases it helps if you reinstall the Samsung USB Drivers
I have almost same problem:
Samsung galaxy tab 3 lite rooted, supersu installed.
Before root, my pc recognize tab, after root, does not recognize tab.
Uninstall and re-install Kies and USB drivers with no result.
Can someone help me with a suggestion?
Thanks to all!

Have you checked The USB debugging mode under dev settings?
Hello all,
I have REDMI S1 and CM 12,
But now there are 2 problems with it..
1st problem is when i connect my redmi s1 to any pc witH trying many usb cable i dont have USB MASS STORAGE Option.. i have another options like connect as a media device (MTP), Camera , or Charge only.. Please help me to connect my phone to pc with USB MASS storage...
2nd problem is my google play store and google apps are not working... Like gmail youtube and some others...
This problem is with CM12 only... dont comes when i install cm11 But still can not connect to PC with USB mass storage with CM 11.
I have already tried these-
Checked Debug Settings and UMS;
Changed the USB port;
Changed PC;
Since I updated my phone to RR-N-v5.8.3 I am now unable to transfer files to and from a PC. When I connect the USB cable to the PC and choose USB file transfer on my phone nothing happens. It works with the PTP option but the Transfer files option isn't working. Can someone please help out?
USB File transfer was always broken on CM and now LOS. There's an easy workaround though
1. Connect the phone to pc via usb cable
2. Choose "tranfer photos(PTP)"
3. Now change it to "transfer files"
Cheers mate! Been banging my head against the wall about this
Also works if you turn on debugging. For some reason that's the only way mine gets detected.
