Check your usb cord. There is one cord at my house that will charge my phone but not recognize as a USB drive.
Have two cords and both won't. But they both did a while back before I switched phones. There a way to Odin back without Ccomputer?

I can't find the answer to this anywhere, but every time I connect my galaxy nexus to my PC (not rooted, running 4.0.1, and connecting using MTP), the device keeps mounting and unmounting...(it keeps connecting and disconnecting) even on USB debugging...it makes hard to transfer files between my device and my computer.
Does anybody have a fix for this?
Try reinstalling your drivers

And/or a different USB cable (or port on your PC) maybe.
Used another usb cable, and it works flawlessly! This is horrible...I had the phone for 2 days now...the USB cable is ****...and one of the ear buds that came with it died on me after a day!!!! i'm really starting to regret getting this phone.
I think my phone's usb doesn't work. I tried my htc usb cable and my friends samsung usb cable.
Both my comps and laptop won't recognize that a device has been plugged in.
USB drivers of gnex r installed...
You have to turn on USB in settings, mine doesnt automatically connect.

Wow! There have been a lot of these my USB port doesn't work threads lately. I hope this isn't a problem with the Gnex. Does it charge when plugged into the wall charger?
Yea, it does charge...
And I don't think it charges from the computer, only the wall.
And of course my usb debugging is on.
Maybe it's because I didn't root it properly?
I think it may have started after I rooted my phone...
How do I double check to see if my phone is properly rooted or not?
I used the Gnex toolkit btw.
Some custom roms have kernals that break USB. Are you on stock?

Could be that your usb charging board is starting to fail. When my board failed, the first symptoms was that the computer didn't recognize my phone.
I don't know how to tell if my USB board is failing.
Yes I am running stock.
And I tried connecting my phone in both camera and media device mode.
You should return it. This is most probably a faulty hardware issue.
I can't. It's craigslist.
Today I tried to flash an alternate modem using Odin and didn't realize I was using a bad usb cable. It disconnected in the middle of the flash and now the PC stopped recognizing the device. I have two PC's that had no trouble recognizing the device and now neither one will recognize it. And now my phone shows the phone and PC pic with the exclamation triangle in the middle and it won't boot. I can't even get into CWM recovery. I tried searching for a fix with no luck. Please post a link for a fix if there is one. I'm still able to go into download mode so I'm hopeful that there is a fix. I'm just worried because both my PC's won't recognize the device. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah I have other cable's. I have a T-Mobile brand data cable that I bought at the tmobile store that has worked flawlessly along with another cable that I have laying around. It was just a terrible accident that I grabbed the faulty one. I thought that cable was thrown away because I asked my gf to trash it awhile back. It's trashed now lol. So yeah I tried using a good cable with no luck

I suggest you to buy the usb jig for epic on eBay.com
That should get your phone into download mode. Use bb cables, they are much better than the stock.

He said he can get into download mode.
OP uninstall the drivers and connect it to Odin in download mode to see if Windows starts loading drivers.

No need to uninstall the driver
I think the biggest misconception is reverting to uninstalling Epic 4G's drivers. That's only necessary when the installation was corrupt.
It will still improperly recognize it as unrecognized device if he allowed that popup on all his usb ports.
Plug your epic with the bad cable to each of your ports and purposely let it all get the unrecognized device message.
Now plug in your epic on each port, and on each of them do this:
Go to device manager, under usb root hubs category, go to the unrecognized device and uninstall it. Unplug the cable and proceed to the next port, repeat these steps for all of your ports. If a bad cable was the issue, this should resolve it.
NOW, with the epic in download mode, plug in to any port with your GOOD cable and it will work now. If you get the same issue, your ports could be dirty, dirt is your enemy here. If that's not the case, try a thicker, better cable. My epic works like magic with thick blackberry cables.
I wish you could sticky the fixes I've made to this issue Kenny, i find myself repeatedly solving the same issue time and time again lol.

I'll attempt this when I get out of work. Thanks for the replies guys. But why would this same issue be happening on both my PC's at the same time when they were both working perfectly fine a couple of days ago?

Got it!
Ok for some reason both of my computers decided that they wanted to recognize my epic. I was about to do what Shinydude100 suggested and right when i connected the usb, it was recognized and drivers started to install. I had already uninstalled the drivers when i first had the problem, but just on one PC. When i noticed that i had the same issue with my second PC i knew it probably wasnt the drivers. I dont understand what the issue was but i left it alone for about 24 hours and now both PCs recognize it. Thanks everyone for your help.

I've had nothing but bad luck with the cables that shipped with the epic.
What is nice is the cables that shipped with the palm Pre x and HP touchpad.... even now the touchpad USB and wall plug can be found very cheaply.... and the output on the charger is 2 A.... so it charges the epic quickly... even with the optional 4000mwh hump-back-of-notre-dame aftermarket battery.
Alright, so when plugging my phone into my new (literally bought today) netbook, nothing happens.
I installed the Samsung USB drivers as well as Kies. And when plugging the phone in afterwards, nothing happens. From my understanding, whenever plugging in a device into the PC, a bubble on the bottom right hand side would pop up saying "Installing device hardware" or something along those lines.
But for this netbook, nothing. Nothing pops up at all. It's like it doesn't even know a device is plugged in. Although, my phone does charge from the connection and that's about it.
I've used 4 different cables. Two generic cables, Energizer cable, and a RocketFish cable. I was successful with the Energizer cable when I used my friend's laptop to ODIN back to EL29 from the FH13 update.
I'm pretty much stumped right now. Not sure what's going on. Considering returning the laptop and exchanging it for another one.
Have you tried turning on USB debugging?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Yes I have.
The netbook will recognize my flash drive though. But not the phone. :|
Welp, went back and returned for Asus laptop. The thing recognized everything. I guess the netbook wasn't meant to be.

Go into your dialer and type ##8778# switch to cp and youll see that your device will start downloading the drivers then you should be in business sorry if I put cp wrong long day but I think thats it there should be 3 settings there the one your on cp and all I think so once your done make sure you go back in and change back afterwards or your sd card wont read right. Hope this helps if so say thanks
There is a known issue where the USB port "breaks" somehow. I just experienced this, so it may be your issue also.
Troubleshoot:
drivers
different cords
different devices
Which you have done so it's most likely your phones USB port
I've just received an item (OTG 7-in-1) I got off eBay which I'm primarily interested in for moving GoPro footage to external storage whilst on a trip away, no computer access.
The only problem is the Z5P I'm using isn't detecting it, but is charging from it once plugged in.. It detects the stock OTG cable with storage without an issue.
I'm just wondering if anyones come across something like this before? I've had OTG issues before which seemed to be kernel/recovery based. No idea where to start...
Have you tried plugging it in and detecting USB device before turning the power on?

I did indeed. I found that leaving the device plugged in with a single usb and resetting my phone, the hub powered up through the splash screen and has worked since. The only problem is that the phone only detects it with a single usb stick in. More than one and it refuses to find it, but once it's powered it reads all usb devices including memory cards at once.
It works now, regardless. Thanks anyway!
