Smart updates not working in Play Store - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi All,
Smart updates for Google Play store were launched in August which means only the delta update will be downloaded when we update any app.
I just checked while updating an app that smart updates are not working on my Galaxy S3.
If I update any app it still downloads it fully not the delta
Anybody else facing the same problem ?
Any way out
Prady...

the app developer may have to support the new update system for it to work, by submitting patch data, but that is just my assumption... as google servers cant decompile and hash apk files with private key signatures... but maybe. but no the smart updates dont "work" for any of the updates that i have had.
(data not delta, delta is an airline lol)

07/28 - Google Play Store v3.7.15

Google is in the process of rolling out a Play Store update v3.7.15 which follows 3.7.11 and 3.7.13 from early July. The latest version doesn't bring any new features as far as I can tell, so we can only assume it contains under-the-hood improvements and/or bug fixes.
One such bug fix resolves the problem with Sprint devices that were previously getting stuck downloading applications on 4G and displayed a "waiting for network" message.

I noticed that now the play store still download the whole apk when updating the apps, so the "smart update" mentioned by Google is still not happening is it?

[Q] Whatsapp no longer available for P605

I have been using whatsapp on my P605 for a while now with no issues. Suddenly it it telling me that I need to update whatsapp in the next 5 days or it will no longer work, but in the play store I am told that "whatsapp your device isn't compatible with this version"
Anyone know a workaround for getting the play store to allow me to install this app?

Thanks I extracted the apk from my phone which worked, I would however prefer a way to force my P605 to allow the download via the play store so that I get updates as they come.

OK ... but if you find a way to do it ...please let me know as I have the same problem :fingers-crossed:
Ok I logged an email with whatsapp support and received the response below. However judging by the speed of the reply I suspect this is an automated reply.
I responded with a query asking why now my device has been regarded as unsupported since it has full telephony features but they have not responded to this
Hi,
WhatsApp is designed specifically for smartphones, and therefore is not compatible with tablets or other non-smartphone devices. We currently do not support these devices and have no plans to do so in the foreseeable future.
Please note that if by chance you are able to use WhatsApp on your unsupported device, we are unable to provide support for any problems that may arise.

You csn use the app market helper, it needs root access and it will fake your build.prob to a number of handsets you can choose from

I sideloaded the latest WhatsApp and the application still does not work on the P605. Honestly, **** WhatsApp for this dumb choice.

Thanks for the info !
Regards
I have that in my phone and have not yet installed November patch.
It's not from the latest update, I even had it on the september update
There are multiple sized updates for each release . May be it came as part of one of these . Unfortunately MI doesn't release change logs for A1 ?
Instant apps is part of Google Play Services update. So any smartphone with Android 6 and above will get it.

Moto G5 not compatible with Android Auto?

I can't find Android Auto on the playstore on my phone, and when I go to the playstore from my PC it tells me that "This app is incompatible with all of your devices."
Is it really incompatible, or maybe this is because Android Auto is not yet available in my country?

As far as I can tell the only requirements for the app itself is android lollipop and above so it probably is geo restricted
Since I don't have your device anymore I can't check
I have included the app in the attachment below though for you to install yourself
It is compatible, I am using it and installed it from play store. Maybe clear the Play store cache? AS pointed out you can also just install the apk (also from apkmirror)
Thanks. Are you using it with the G5 or the G5 Plus?
What is strange is that it is telling me that it is incompatible with my device, and not that it is not available in my country, as it happens with some other apps.
Is it is safe to install it with an .apk, and would I receive updates if I do it that way?

The apk I posted was downloaded by myself from the playstore so totally safe
You would only get updates if It is available in your playstore & even then you may have to uninstall & reinstall depending on app signatures if different in different locations

Thanks. If I can get confirmation that it should work with the moto g5 (not the plus) then I will try it out.
Any reason why Google would have country restrictions on Android Auto? The cars are the same, the apps (maps, music etc) work fine, so why place restrictions on Android Auto? Apple doesn't seem to have any such restriction with Car Play (in my country at least)

Why do you need confirmation to try it? Just try it - it will either install or say app not installed
Like I said the only min requirements is lollipop so no reason why the app won't install
Some apps maybe geo restricted for licensing purposes - if Googling why the app isn't available in your country doesn't come up with anything the only thing you can do is contact the app developer

Lol by all means scan it - decompile it & check it
If you know my reputation around here you know I provide support
I used to be a recognised contributor but left xda for a while
Also I provided the official twrp for this device
So looking through my past posts/threads you will see the kind of support I provide
Of course, I mean you work on twrp for g5 and yet someone still manages to be suspicious
I am not suspicious I just want to know if it actually works! If this is not a country thing, maybe they marked this phone as incompatible for a good reason. I don't yet have a car with Android Auto so I can't fully test it now. Maybe it would run on the phone itself, but then fail to connect to the car (I've seen reports of this happening for several phones including different versions of the Moto G). Or maybe there is some other kind of bug that only shows up once connected to a car...

The only person that can answer your question would be the app developer
Would be quicker & easier to test yourself as the chance of someone with a moto g5 & the car you might have with android auto support would be highly unlikely
In these situations it's always better to just try yourself or contact the app developer for support
I installed the apk that TheFixItMan has provided and it works fine, on both the phone and a car I tried it with for a few minutes. Thanks!
As it was said previously I can't update Android auto from the play store now, so I assume at some point it might stop working properly. Should I just get a new apk every time I need an update?

Yes just get the latest apk
As long as it's just the version that is on the playstore (unmodified) like I provided you can just update it without having to uninstall previous version

Did you not see posts #2 & #3
When I manually checked for updates to Play Services today there was a ~470kb update. Installed and rebooted. Checked again and it said there was the same size update available, installed and rebooted. Checked and it was there again. Anyway, took 3 times to install, whether they were different updates I don't know.
Currently on Version 22.12.15 (190400-439420056) which I assume is the latest non-beta version. Still shows as dated 1st March.
(note that my version is 190400 which is what came officially from a check for updates so not sure about the 190400 vs 190408 debate)

I did the same thing to find out the latest pushed version. I have T-Mobile in the US and 190400 is the version that was pushed to my phone. Maybe it's a regional difference?

Bit of a shame that Google is simply copy/pasting the update log from previous months. I was hoping for some decent information, as to where certain things had been improved, instead we just get the same generic text every time, very slightly altered. So the question arises: Is it even necessary/useful to try to keep this up to date with manual installing?

New playstore : Google Play Store 30.1.19-21 [0] [PR] 440467943 (arm64-v8a) (nodpi) (Android 5.0+)
I have got several 496kb Play Services updates over the past few days, sometimes a couple on the same day, now on Version 22.13.12 (190400-437950728).
Again, not sure if it's the same version failing until it successfully installs or if each has been a genuine update (the fact it has been exactly the same sized update each times makes me think it's the former).
Just received Play Services Version 22.15.14 (190400-441847897)
(still showing as March 1st)
Anyone get April update yet? Still nada here.
Still on March.
Yet on March ..
