Replace stock browser & Exchange client - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Phone: Stock Rogers 4.0.4 with Root.
I hate the Rogers modification to the browser. I'd like to replace it with a stock AOSP browser with Google Sync for my bookmarks. I'd even settle for changing the damn start page in the Rogers version of the browser, but you can't even do that easily.
And Exchange email client, WTH, no HTML? Just came back to stock from JB, and I forgot about this little tidbit. Any way to replace the stock Exchange with one that does HTML, and keeps the ability to use S Calendar?

Well, I feel silly. LoL Figured out how to change the homepage, certainly isn't intuitive....

I'd still like to change the email client though.

And with THIS thread, you can replace the browser, SMS client and Exchange Email (and other TW apps) with the decent AOSP packages.
I couldn't find said thread with the forum search tool, had to use Google to search the forum and it picked it right out. I hope this helps someone else.

[Q] Anyone have a separate installable APK of the AOSP mail client?

It seems like every ROM out there with Sense still has the HTC Mail app, which I absolutely hate (among other reasons (it is ugly and a pain to use), it can't handle multiple Exchange accounts).
There used to be a flashable .zip out there from Calkulin of the AOSP e-mail client, but if I recall correctly it quit working at some point along the way and started causing FCs.
Simply copying the AOSP client from non-Sense ROMs doesn't seem to work either.
I would make an installable/flashable version if I could, but at this point that's a little above my head...I'm not much of a java/dalvik person, so I am *really* confused by the android source tree and why I can't just type make in the email app directory and get it done.
Bit of a digression, but yeah, does anyone have the AOSP email client in an installable form that works on current FroYo ROMs?
P.S. Bonus if someone can remove the stupid 30 day max limit on Exchange mail in the AOSP client...I don't understand why they put that in there...
Is this what you're looking for?

Not exactly, I'm not having problems with the security policy (while the HTC client does enforce them, the AOSP e-mail client doesn't enforce the lockscreen one, which is all I would care about anyway).
The time limit for old messages is just the client, since the HTC one can display all old Exchange mail.
However, kudos as I did find an installable version of the AOSP mail client in a thread linked from that one (I've been looking for days!).
Link is here for those interested:

Cool. I think it's actually basically the same .apk, but from different developers. The one you used should disable the securty policy as well, but both are the AOSP email app, just with that modification.
So Xeno, did this work for you...I am in a very similar situation and would like to switch to the AOSP email.
Any issues?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the delay, yes this worked for me, but this was obviously waaay back. I think I've been running all AOSP ROMs since the Gingerbread ones became stable, so obviously the AOSP client works there, though it does enforce that damned policy. However, I ran the AOSP client I linked above with every 2.2 Sense ROM I had with no issues with either of the Exchange servers I use.
You just got me to thinking about security and the 2.3 AOSP client...not sure I know enough about where the hooks are to produce a similar client for Gingerbread, but I may look at that this week, because I'm tired of having to use the pass code, plus it often 'breaks' when I flash new kernels/etc, not letting me past the code input screen even when I use the correct code.

[Q] Cyanogenmod: email Move to different folders?

Am I missing something in the email app, or is there no way to move emails to different folders in the cyanogenmod email app?
This is key to some of my work, as my rules aren't as good as me reading and sorting for certain things. Right now I had to download touchdown, but man I like the cyanogenmod email otherwise...
Any help would be awesome!
I use my Vibrant like a Crackberry junkie 5 years ago. Cyanogenmod is cool, but without this functionality I'm ready to go back to stock. Any way to fix this w/o a 3rd party app?
Get K9 Mail and be done with it

[Q] Exchange Email: No Search?

I noticed there is no search option in GN default corporate email app. Did they took out search or am I missing something? Very important feature IMO.
I bought touchdown a long time ago. It is so much more full featured than the built in exchange client it's not even a contest. It's paid for itself many times over.

There's a search option in the stock email app. Spyglass at the bottom of the screen, above the back button. It seems to actually search bodies as well, which the Gingerbread version did not IIRC. (This may be dependent on the version of Exchange you're connected to, we are on 2007 which does allow for mobile search but the phone has to implement it correctly.)
I used to use Touchdown a long time ago (OG droid release), but through several phone switches and steady improvement of the Exchange client, I've been able to stop using it. It is ugly as sin and I don't like having my corporate contacts split from the rest of the phone, as I use Exchange for all of my contacts and ignore GMail contacts.
The GNex version of the client is actually really good and pretty full-featured at this point.
Touchdown is great and I have been using it on gingerbread phone (best app that can do html email on exchange 2003).
But the default email app on GN is great. I love how the emails look and GAL lookup work.
ZPrimed,
I do not see the spyglass button on my app. Maybe because I am using exchange 2003. We are upgrading to exch 2010 , so hopefully the spyglass button will be available in that version.
One feature touchdown has that I use regularly is the ability to do a server search since I don't sync nearly as much mail down as my server holds.

That's your problem.
The search is implemented by making a request to the Exchange server and asking it to perform the search (with its own full-text indexes of your mailbox). The server then spits results back to your phone. IIRC 2003 can't do this, or if it can, the option isn't enabled by default.
Exchange 2010 will allow you to do it.
IME, most phone e-mail apps that have a search and DON'T implement server-side search only allow you to look in the sender address and subject - you don't get full body searching, unless they are storing it all in a DB on the phone and indexing that separately (and even then, you only get 30 days worth of results or whatever you have it set to pull in your folders).
Touchdown Honeycomb version (Tablets) works on ICS
Existing Touchdown users. Dev modified it to work on ICS phones, MUST be using latest beta build until he finishes formal testing and releases to Android Market:
You can get that beta from here:
http://nitrodesk.com/tddownloads/nitroidbeta-honey.apk
Server Side search works great he also added a less pushy push implementation which is using less battery for me than the ICS mail app.

Looking for good exchange email/calendar app

I used to use Emoze (http://www.emoze.com) on my S4 for my work email because I loved how it didn't make me password the phone with the ridiculous exchange requirements set by my employer, and it also automatically put my appointments and conferences on my main google calender without me having to do a thing.
Apparently this app is dead and the developer is long gone though so I am looking for a replacement.
So far everything I've found either costs too much, doesn't have the calender function like I want (Touchdown puts things in its own in app calender for example), or just doesn't push email notifications well.
Anyone have a good suggestion that suits my needs? My email is really not confidential at all and I don't want to put a stupid password with a capital letter AND a symbol on my phone every time I open it lol.
edit: On my GS4, someone modified the samsung email app to not require a password. I wonder if anyone has done the same for the LG default email app. That would work too.
The stock app is not bad, though it does not thread and is not as pretty as the Kitkat stock. Of course, the Kitkat stock does not work with Exchange, courtesy of Google dragging their feet for at least six months. There are some rumors that the problems have been fixed in the recent releases of ASOP and Cyanogen, but I have not confirmed that.
As for a password, you have an easy solution - install the XPosed Framework and then add the module "Complete keyguard disabler". Presto, keyguard lock gone. You need to be rooted for this. You can even install a module to hide the fact that you are rooted from your company's administrators, should they be so anal as to check for that.

[Q] Updating stock email to 4.4.2.0400??

Greetings all!
Just purchased the tab pro 10.1. It's incredible. My only gripe, which is not a huge issue but enough to drive me crazy that I haven't yet discovered an easy "fix" for it, is that the stock email app--which I really like given that it mirrors the email app on my SG5--is at version 4.1. On my SG5, the email version is 4.4.2.0400. I'm puzzled as to why the tab pro, after all updates are done, hasn't updated to this newest version. Primarily, I want to be able to a) use the stock email app; b) swipe away emails rather than check a box to delete them.
My device is not rooted nor do I plan on rooting. I've done some digging around online but haven't found an easy way to remedy this. I assume I could just install the SG5 stock email app? But I haven't found the apk online, without the need to edit a bunch of other stuff that is beyond my expertise.
Would there be an easy fix for this? Perhaps just an apk of the SG5 email app I can install over top of this (no flashing, etc)?
Many thanks in advance!
