I know there are similar threads, but none seem to cover my specific issue...
My Desire (updated to Froyo about 6 months ago) locked up last night (whilst browsing the web), and now will not boot. At first I could not even get to the HBOOT screen, however today I am able to, but if I press the power button alone nothing happens, screen remains blank and no vibrate.
The Fast Boot options essentially do nothing, and take me back (after several minutes) to the HBOOT screen.
The Recovery option takes me to a white screen with 3 Androids on skateboads (in the middle of the screen, not at the bottom as on HBOOT screen), which after several minutes takes me back to the HBOOT screen... so a loop.
I have not attempted "Clear Storage" yet, as there are some SMSs I want to get back if I can...
Greatly appreciate any help here...
Thanks
Ed

Are you sure you are on Froyo? The hboot and radio you got there are delivered by the Android 2.3 update.

Yeah I believe so, from the official htcdev site, but I cannot get into the system information page to check details... should it matter tho, if boot isn't starting at all + it's been working for months (so ruling out partial ROM update = bricking).
Thanks
Ed
Use revolutionary to s-off, then flash a recovery and a custom rom.
Or
Try the 2.3 ruu (my sig).
If he can't boot then rev is not an option. 2. 3 RUU.
Thanks, I will give this a go, but... are there any ideas of how I could get data off the phone beforehand? I have some SMS messages and a couple of contacts which I don't think were backed up...
Thanks again...
Well...you can't save any data... sorry
You can reflash HTCs gingerbread in two ways, either connect your phone to the PC in fastboot and run the RUU or extract the .img from the RUU and rename it PB99IMG.img. Or you could root... Either way, the data will be lost.

u have to extract "rom.zip" from the ruu and rename it to "PB99IMG.zip" then put on ur sdcard, boot into hboot (vol down + power) and complete the update by pressing volume up for yes
Sent from my HTC Desire
Thanks. jmcclue. I've never had to do it myself but I'll remember that for later.

I tried searching for this but to no avail.. if some one here has better searchfu than me just point me in the right direction but here is my problem.
Im using a 2.2 android HTC desire from O2 I was following the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044 here to Root it. I installed the Hboot drivers fine and got Unrevoked working as far as i can tell.
I launch it and it goes through the entire process of restarting my phone into Hboot and then restarting again and stabilising then It starts to root.. says sucess then quickly changes to say "Internal Error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"
It then stops there restarts the phone and has had no effect at all..
Any help will be wonderful

Are you trying to use Unrevoked forever? That only works on CDMA phones (no sim card). If you just want root and flash different roms normal Unrevoked is fine. To see if it went oke boot in to recovery and see if it says ClockworkMod recovery. If yes, everything is fine regarding rooting.
If after this you want to S-off and have a GSM (sim card) phone use AlphaRev.
Im using the version available from unrevoked.com which i belive is just unrevoked
As for booting into recovery i try that... all i get is the phone symbol with the red triangle and then dont get past that when i push power and vol up..

This man speaks the truth, unrEVOked forever won't work on the sim card Desire. I you should now have standard super user permissions. if you do want S-off you will need to go the alpha rev route.
tried using a diff version of unrevoked and this time it says failed to flash recovery image
I just went through all of this with my own phone a few days ago. from what I have learned and read Unrevoked will not give you Nand unlock.
Strange. I tried the latest unrEVOked (not forever) on my unbranded Desire, and did not have any errors like these (NAND unlock, unable to flash). I have:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
except the radio is 5.11.05.27
Hmmm could it be the radio causing the play up?

Maybe.
But i should give it a try. Download the latest unrEVOked from here:
http://www.unrevoked.com/recovery/
Also make sure, you have correctly installed the HBOOT drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
I do definitely have the latest version of both of those..
Hi folks, absolute novice here.
Apologies for replying to a very old thread, but I am having the same issue here with unrevoked - I simply cannot get my HTC Desire rooted.
I get the msg "Internal Error: failed to unlock NAND flash?"

You've searched too far back
Use the guides here to explain everything better: http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/503471-desire-all-things-root-guide.html
Follow it all the way through particularly terminology etc. Everything you need to know is there
Then use the guide to 's-off' using revolutionary. It doesn't technically root but will fully unlock your bootloader which is more powerful.
Ok so here goes, hoping you guys can help... I've searched and found a few threads related to a similar issue, tried everything suggested, and still nadda....
Being the forgetful fool I am, I flashed the most up to date official RUU on my rooted Desire with Oxygen HBOOT without flashing the downgader HBOOT first... The idea was to do a simple unroot back to stock...
Needless to say things didn't go well. I now have a silver HTC logo with the 4 warning triangles in each corner
Read that flashing the downgrader then the RUU again would work so...
Flashed the downgrader HBOOT using fastboot... success!
Ran the RUU again... ERROR! 140 wrong bootloader version.
Tried flashing and running various recoveries, boots, etc. using fastboot... all give ERROR remote 12 signature verify fail
Cannot get to vol down+power
Cannot get to back+power
When I have the silver HTC and unplug USB I get the following:

RUU (in orange box)
Any ideas if there's anything I can do to get the phone booting again??
Thanks a lot for any help you can give!!

You are supposed to flash stock hboot, then flash hboot downgrader before RUU. This is because hboot downgrader only downgrades the hboot to allow RUU to s-on the phone. Technically now you are still on oxygen hboot. Are you able to fastboot flash hboot?
Sent from my HTC Original Desire using Tapatalk
Hmm ok so I'm even more stupid than I originally thought...
Don't think I can flash HBOOTs in fastboot
Whenever I try 'fastboot flash hboot ...' with the stock alpharev hboot I get the 'remote 12 signature verify fail' error...
Thanks for the quick reply
Well screw me sideways... I fixed it...
For anyone who lands in the same (stupid) position as my idiot self, I just flashed the official 2.3 Gingerbread update RUU...
Flashed first time, booted first time, now boots every time...
No idea how or why... but yay
Hi. Recently my htc desire started rebooting when I used 3G.
Anyway this time it has gone for good and just hangs at the HTC bootscreen.
I tried going to bootloader -> recovery, but when I select it, it just reboots.
I have tried bootloader -> clear storage, but doesn't make a difference
After that I tried to flash it to the most recent RUU, but get a 131 customer ID error. Does anyone have any idea how I might install a new rom and get it working again - keeping in mind that I cannot boot the phone to a ROM?
Details that I have at bootscreen (back button + power) :
BRAVO UNKOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT - 0.75.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4-05.00.11
It is from orange, but when I first got it I unlocked it and installed opendesire.
Thanks in advance.
Check bortak's troubleshooting guide.
I've had a look at the "Advanced Boot Problems - S-ON" section which seems to apply. Problem is in creating the goldcard. The tutorial says I need to be fully booted up ect. Any way I can do this and get the CID from fastboot alone?
What's your carrier?
It's with orange
Try to create goldcard with linux:
http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html
Ok, made goldCard and installed RUU mentioned in bortak's guide. Fastboot now looks like:
BRAVO PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-301D
TOUCH PANEL-DYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
so change there. Still hangs at the HTC boot screen.
What next!?
Got any errors when running RUU? If not, send it to HTC. You are back to stock and so there shouldn't be any problems.
I've had it for over a year and a half now. Would they still take it back?
Desire has a 2 year warranty so as long as you have a receipt or something you should be fine. I bought mine from CPW and they just used the serial number when returning-no problems at all.
Few days ago my HTC Desire restarted and never booted again since then. It was lying on a desk when I heard multiple vibrations.
No ADB, no recovery, only fastboot available. I can flash any partition without any problems. It's got S-OFF (with AlphaRev - I've already tried different partition table layouts).

I don't have any nandroid backups since the phone was working well with CM 7.1 for a few months.
Reflashing boot doesn't make the device boot any further.
I've been reading about similiar issues but none applied exactly to my problem. Do you think there is any chance of making my Desire work again? Asking here is probably my last chance so iz ask for halp.
I think you can use android flasher/fast boot to get recovery and then flash a rom
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA
I've been also flashing recovery. Without any effect. :/

Look here, pretty much the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774330
Check it out and see if you can find something.
So I tried flashing latest 2.3 RUU from HTC dev site. In bootloader only radio version changed. It's still S-OFF. Splashscreen changed to stock HTC. Now after 7 vibrations phone restarts (it wasn't before).
I've also tried putting it into freezer but it didn't help I guess.
Any other ideas?

So, if you're still s-off flash alpharev downgrade hboot and run RUU again. That will overwrite hboot too so if there's a problem with it it will fix it.
If you don't get it repaired it's probably a hardware issue.
Still bootloop. So it's hardware problem after all. It sucks.
Anyway thanks for help. I really appreciate. I've bought HTC One V already.
Hi there!
This is a follow up from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051245
I noticed I was S-ON, so I thought that this was giving me troubles. I downloaded a ruu, the wrong one, so I ended up without a recovery and constant reboots.
So, I made myself a goldcard (I used my Xperia Play to get the CID, then switched to a Card reader, and a SanDisk 8GB). Still, I got the error 140.
I downloaded a pb999img.zip of a GB ruu, put this on the card, and powered into hboot. The update worked, and after powering up, everything is fine until the lockscreen comes up (but the "quietly brilliant" comes twice), then it crashes. I tried this twice, with the same results.
Any ideas why that happens? And why I couldn't use any ruu I wanted?
Here are my hboot numbers:
Bravo Pvt3 Ship S-ON

Microp-051d
Touch Panel-SYNW0101

So, any idea what to do? Could it be that the LBE Master screwed my phone completely up?
I would be very grateful for help. Thanks
I tried another ruu, which failed because of the lower hboot.
But after that, my phone was stable!
So, I managed to get S-Off with Revolutionary, but sadly no CWM.
Imnterestingly, I have the reboot problems again, the exact same ones.
Update: Now I am stuck in Hboot, after getting a CWM, rooting, and formatting as the troubleshooter guide says. Also, getting a CWm with fastboot as mentioned here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
isn't possible anymore.
