Does anyone know any working app for my One V which can automatically enable/disable the 2G/3G data connection. I need atleast the following functionalities:
1. Auto-disable the 3G data connection when screen off
2. Auto-change the 3G into the 2G connection
3. Automatically set the brightness to lowest at night time, say 10PM till 7AM (nice to have)
I've searched in the market but could not find any suitable one. Thanks in advance.
if ur rooted u can use cm10..u can switch between 2g nd 3g and for other stuff use juice defender

is this possible for android phones???
i want to turn off 3g since im having poor 3g reception and i believe this drains the battery faster...
i was able to swithch from 3g to edge/gprs(only) in my previous blackberry for push emails and turn the 3g on again when im at a good 3g coverage area
and do some heavy browsing
all i can find in my phone is "disable mobile data" well that means no data connection at all right???
any help guys??? thanks...
Menu/Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Network Mode/GSM Only
I think will do it
It would be awesome if a one click widget for this toggle could be developed. Every day I find myself switching between 2G and 3G manually, repeatedly.

There is an App in the market called 2G-3G OnOff by Curvefish
Not direct switching but does reduce the number of selections.
Thanks for your suggestion... I've been using that for a while, so one click is what I was after like my other widgets.

turn off "mobile network" and just use wifi at home?
I've read that the phone constantly searching for 3G and/or using 3G is a big battery drain. Also that unless you require the bandwidth you can do just fine with 2g. There are apps on the market to let you switch 3g off but the ones I found don't work with cdma phones.
Turning mobile network off like said above will turn off 3g...

Doesn't it turn off 2G or edge also. I want data when I don't have wifi. I also thought the phone switched off mobile network when connects wifi automatically.
If you hold the power button and turn off mobile network it turns off 3g. It goes to 1x and you basically receive text and phone calls..it helps turning it off in my house because I don't get great reception so its not always looking for that 3g

Thanks. Is that only 1G? That's partially what I want. Better would be to be able to get 2G which would be ok for web browsing. 1x is painfully slow and useless. I'd like to be able to switch to 3x just for streaming video, downloading, or other high data needs.

Yes.
Hold power down.
I think ATT when you turn off 3g it goes to 2g.but if um not using 3g I keep it in 1x

If you still have sense, there is a widget from the settings that you can add to do this instead of having to hit the power button. Make it a 1 step process!
So it is not possible to shut off 3G and keep 2G?
analog = 1Gen network
1X = 2Gen network
EVDO = 3Gen network
EDGE is GSM 2G, does not apply to this discussion.

No.
An easy way to see what you can and can't do is to install the HTC Widgets (found under "Widgets", then "Settings").
The one's relevant to the topic are:
Mobile Network and Wi-Fi.
I also use Bluetooth and GPS widgets, and between the four, manage battery consumption as best I can depending upon what I'm doing and whether or not I have wi-fi coverage available. If I'm just doing calls and SMS text messaging, I turn them all off.
OK. Thanks all

Incredible. The OP is looking for wireless data (see his post #5) when 3G is off. If you can do that, post a how-to. When I disable 3G and wi-fi, I get 1x - which is 2G, as explained - but isn't what the OP is trying to ask for (but getting terminology mixed up).
sometime I use desire z, it doesn't get the 3G network.
In preference, disable "mobile data" and enable, the net work start to work again.
do you have any idea?
Could be that you're slightly out of range for 3G coverage? Do check with your mobile operator.
If they say its your phone, then you could always root it and install a new radio, which *might/might not* improve signal.
Also have you tried using 3G in other areas?
Try enabling always on mobile data connection that should sort it out

thx,
i will try root my phone.

"always mobiledata on" doesn't use too much battery?
so i wanna avoid to use it.
Thats how you get it to keep your data network on, wasnt that the idea of the post?
Anyway you could download an app called extended controls which once set up allows you to enable and disable it with a click of a button

Hi everyone. I'm running Trip's CM9 with Franco's Kernel r9 on the Three network in the UK.
I don't get much signal at home, so usually leave airplane mode on and just use Wi-Fi. When I do this, I can get 4+ hours' screen time with games, browsing and more. When I work and have the 3G connection on all day, I struggle to get 2 hours!
Since 3 don't have much 2G coverage in the UK anymore, I am unable to leave the phone on 2G only.
Is this level of power use correct? Or could it be a ROM/network issue? Anybody else seen a similar issue?

3g will always use alot of power. have u set ur gsm to auto or wcdma preferred?
Well unfortunately if I do that, there's a bug using custom roms on Three network at the moment where if you lose signal there's a chance it won't come back until you enable then disable airplane mode. To get around this bug, I've had to set mine to WCDMA only

Hello,
During 12AM and 7AM I noticed that the mobile network goes off. I need to open the screen and it does automatically reconnect. Is there a setting that I need to enable for the network to stay on 24 hours ? I'm using stock ROM.
Thank you.
r u using any battery saving apps like Juice Defender?
This is a built-in feature given by HTC to save power. It switches off wi-fi & data when the device is in sleep mode. You cannot change this setting in a stock ROM. you would be able to change it on a custom ROM though.
