As the subject states, I trying to add a power button in the nav bar. Like the one in AOKP.
I did some research, there are easy ways to add a power button HD2 run CM10
Also there are ways to add a search and menu button for gnex running cm10 but no power button option.
Does anyone know of a way to add power button on a galaxy nexus running cm10?

If that isn't possible yet, I remember being able to reconfigure the nav button on my Nexus S, Is that possible with the galaxy nexus? That way I can use the search button to lock the screen, until someone figures it out.
It's a pretty easy edit if you have the ability to successfully decompile and recompile the systemUI apk. It was an edit that I used to do on my fascinate (search to power) and then to aokp in early versions. I pestered one of the devs enough for them to add power in to rom control .
good day.

Coming previously from another Samsung phone... I've had the same gripe before... I don't know if it's possible on the GNex but I know it has been done before on several other Samsung phones.
Our phone has an awesome camera but the Samsung developers continue to neglect obvious features like a dedicated camera button. In CM9, you are given the option to assign different buttons to be used as a camera button and this is extremely helpful. Otherwise, you and fumbling around blindly trying to find the on screen button to take a picture.

Is it possible to add the power toggles to the notification menu? That was one of the most convenient aspects of Android.
-------------
If anyone could help I would definitely appreciate it, thank you for your consideration.
The notification power options can be built using Widgetsoid from the Market. It's free. This feature is also built into many custom ROMs, like AOKP and CM9 Kang.
Is this what you mean by camera button? Flash this, and then volume up becomes a dedicated camera button - http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13899-mod-camera-buttonvstart-and-take-pics-with-volume/

That solution eliminates either the volume up or volume down button. Is there a reason why simultaneous press of both volume up and volume down is not an option to maintain function of the volume up and volume down respectively?
Is there anyway I can temporarily remove the Soft Keys when I am playing games on my device? Possibly pressing Volume Up & Power (similar to taking screenshots), re-enabling by the same method?
I downloaded Shadowgun last night and found myself pressing the soft buttons by mistake.
Is this in anyway possible?

AOKP has the option...
And I know that isn't what you're asking.
I hate when people post work-a-rounds to something I ask <_<
But...there ya go.
get AOKP rom or codenameandroid rom and both have a power menu option where you can disable it.
You just long press the power key and press the option to disable navigation bar and to reenable it you just long press power key again and then choose to enable.
I am happy with the ROM I have, hopefully there will be a way to port this to other ROMS?
Thanks for the replies though!
GummyNex also has this. I'd say ask your ROM developer if he will add it. Really I think that's the only way to do it. If you had to change it manually how would you get out of Shadowgun to change it back?

I did say in my first post, re-enabling them the same way (Power & Volume Up).

You learn something everyday. I use that ROM and never noticed that option in the power menu. (Or perhaps I noticed it but ignored it because I didn't know what it did).
Thanks!
Hey
Switch the back button and menu button location?
I want to replace them with each other so the back button is on the right side and the menu on the left.
Someone know if its possible?
Most custom ROMs let you choose which buttons you have and where they are.
I am on bamf and i am not sure where to look, kinda new to this phone
Yeah u can do it. I'm on AOKP and I have the option to switch em

Interested myself too. If you know a mod that enables this in asop roms +deodexed please let us know. Thanks.

Can change them all around on aokp easily, or hide them etc.
does anyone know of apps to replace the use of hardware home button?eg:bk soft home .a stand alone app/shortcut would be nice.
Save button or something like this. You can find it on market.
button savior.I know of that one.it uses too much ram.but its not what I want.I just want a home button shortcut that I can place as a toggle on the status bar.there are many status bar apps.I use one with the power button and multitasking button along with buttons for all apps/shortcuts.they are just shortcuts/notifications and not processes see.
Navigation bar in aokp and cm9 roms have what you need

thanks.but it takes up part of the display all the time.no solution I guess.
understanding your problem but its not that big biiggg problem you guess
Just got the SGIII and my GNex is now my 16 month old daughters learning device. We installed a whole bunch of baby stuff but the problem is she keeps hitting the home button and exiting the app.
The phone is rooted and I am running the Nova launcher so I could remove all the navbar buttons... But then I won't be able to exit some apps if there isn't a built in exit option...
My idea was to add a HOME button to the power button menu. That way I would have a way to exit but my daughter shouldn't be able to figure it out so easily. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I'm running Codename Android ROM but I'd change if there was one that would work better.
Also, does anyone know how to disable the google search option when you drag your finger up from the bottom... I can't stand it, I always seem to do it by mistake myself.
Thanks,
Jim
i dont think this is possible..
Ok I figured as much. Any other ideas how I could hide home button but still have access to it via some other means?

This sounds exactly what you're after. It lets you remove/restore the navbar from the power menu, preventing unwanted exits.
