Supercharger V6 - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This guide (http://www.vikitech.com/10319/boost-performance-android-phone-supercharger) suggest going to here (http://marker.to/6fqAA0) and downloading all the files. I can't seem to DL the txt files though. Are they broken or are they supposed to be copied into notepad?

Use a better browser to download the files. It works perfectly on my Firefox here

I'm posting this on a separate computer; I've now tried 2 pcs as well as the phone itself, and no go (all 3 have firefox). Guess I'll dl chrome.
Just as a double check, you dled the txt files and not the other ones, correct?

Oh, the text files? Just right click the link as say "save link as..."

Worked well enough. Experiencing another issue now with the installation of supercharger v6; I need to use gscript to load a script from my SD card, but it doesn't see the script in the root directory. Here's the guide again: http://www.vikitech.com/10319/boost-performance-android-phone-supercharger
Copy paste "Go back to the Market and download Gscript Lite" into your find bar to see the section I'm at.

Here's a screenshot of what I mean.

Try Script Manager rather than Gscript

Unfortunately that didn't work. I'm now following a new guide located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830613
It appears that the supercharge was successful since I got the 100% supercharged message, but I can't seem to find the /system/etc/init.d folder with the 99supercharger file (I searched for etc, but that didn't pop up anything). What I did though is in the picture below. Will one of those files suffice, and if so, should it be the .sh file orrr...?

You're looking for the /system/etc/init.d folder in your microSD card? That's totally the wrong place lol. You have to go to the very root of the phone, then the system folder, then the etc folder then the init.d folder. If you don't know how to at least get to the root of the phone, then you probably shouldn't be messing with root apps/scripts

[Mod]Ad free host file + hulu plus

Made this to have ad blocking and be able to watch Hulu on my gnex without having to revert from adfree every time I wanted to use Hulu. Just removed the lines that referenced Hulu.
IT IS ADVISED YOU MAKE A NANDROID BEFORE APPLYING.
Just rename "huluhost" to "hosts"
Backup original host file from /ect
Then move or copy new host to /ect
May need to delete cache/davlik

Just saw this when I went back a page. Glad to find an updated hosts file with a bit extra bite. :-D Mind if I add some stuff to it, and use it in my ROM releases? I WILL give you credit for it. :-D
will this work on any device?
Or just nexus?
Yessss, thank you!

Should work on any device.. host file is basically the same stuff as windows.. can even use this file for your windows machine and block the ads there too..

Yea sorry. You have to rename it to hosts

Sorry about the typo. It should work once you rename it to hosts.
Does my Nexus have to be rooted? Aside from the ad's, I'm pretty happy with it the way it is. I can't find the /etc folder or a hosts file at all.

You need root.
@blue2107 the file is down.
FYI. Here is a the method I use, it will also keep your file up to date.
1) Use adfree to download latest hosts file, this will also backup your original
2) Copy the file to your sd card
3) Open the file with a text editor that supports "find and replace" function, I used Jota Text Editor
4) Replace "hulu" with something else, I use "nothulu"
5) Replace the ect/hosts file with the one you just edited
Let me know if you have any feedback or if you have any problems with this method.
Also I attached a copy of the file I am using.
Check out "AdAway"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adaway
It has a white list feature.
I have not used that feature myself, but the application is great.

Install apk from sdcard using your internet browser

What if you need to install an apk from sdcard but you don't have a file manager installed yet, and to make things worse you don't have internet access to download it from the market!
Well, there's a solution to that. Provided by every internet browser available.
(I suppose you have one installed
Here's what you need to do:
1. Put the apk file in the main directory your sdcard. Rename it to something very short for easy typing. In this example, I will use "fm.apk".
2. Boot your device. Goto Security Settings and check "Unknown Sources".
3. Open your internet browser. In the address bar type "file:///sdcard/<filename>.apk".
In our example above it should look like this: "file:///sdcard/fm.apk"
4. Press "Go".
That's it! Installation started!

You could also do
adb install /sdcard/name.apk
If you were feeling like a pro.

Or, instead of trying to remember browser commands or adb commands, just skip all of this madness and grab a flashable .zip that contains a file manager! ~
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills over here, kids.
If you don't have a flashable file manager, just grab the one I made on the WildChild ROM thread (Post #1). Copy the .zip to your SD Card. Done. Don't ever worry about flashing a ROM without a file manager ever again.
I will give this a try.Looks interesting

Danceoff, this is for people who are trying to PREPARE for flashing ROMs on the fly. Ie. They have access to market, file explorer etc NOW but won't LATER when they actually do the flash.
I don't have service right now so my phone is basically a tiny tablet, and I'm a flash-a-holic. i flash ROMs on break at work, on the bus, etc. This is very handy for me. Thank you.

[Q] Modify "updater-script"

Does anyone know how to modify the "updater-script" that is within the following file path: cm-10-20120818-NIGHTLY-d2spr.zip\META-INF\com\google\android
I just want to modify one line within the updater-zip. I tried using notepad plus by copying the "updater-zip", modifying the line I wanted to and then copying and pasting back into the CM-10 update zip (in the above mentioned file path), but I get errors. I think its an issue with file "signing" or the fact the original update-script is packed "compressed", and when I edit it, it compress's the file.
The reason I am doing this is I want to be able to dual boot my stock rom and the C10 nightlies. The current procdure allows for CM9 only but in the link below a developer found a work around where he calls for updating the script - he does not explain how to do so (I am new to to this). See link below to see what I mean:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28906564&postcount=49
Is there an easy fix for this? Can this be done on the phone. I want to avoid having to deal with "apk signing" etc. Thanks!
i imagine ur errors are when you install?
Try mine https://dl.dropbox.com/s/6gzr055iyb1v6hp/updater-script?dl=1 you probly just got a typo somewhere. Make sure u delete .txt from my attachment as it will probly be added when you DL it. Same goes for the one ur editing. Notepad adds .txt. make sure ur deleting the extension. Mine worked perfect so if it doesn't post the error u get in recovery.
and this can be done on the phone I use root explorer but u have to unzip, edit then rezip the entire cm10 file. Easier to hit the PC and use 7zip or even windows explorer.

[Q] Trouble with hacked 4g hotspot opening certain web pages

So here is my problem.
When using my hotspot on my Win8 computer, it wont let me click through certain webpages like cashback websites like bigcrumbs and ebates and gets stuck on the redirection pages like "anrdoezrs.net" when tranfering me to a specific website. It won't fuly transfer me through to the store I want to gain cashback at.
I recently got the new computer with Win8 on it. Now that I have have tried my hotspot on multiple Win8 computers with it not working, I'm assuming it must be the problem. It ran perfectly with Win7 beforehand.
I am currently running [ROM]Phantom's Blazer Rom[Yo][8/2/12][v0.1.5][FF18]
I did notice on the tethering options of my phone that it did not list that it supported Win8. (Yet it does work for mostly all of the websites except the ones I'm speaking of).
Is there a way to fix my problem with the Rom version I'm running right now? (I know its a little outdated).
Do I need to update to a newer version of the Blazer rom? Or should I get a different rom?
(I need to have a rom that has the 4g hacked hotspot and it need to be able to be used with my PS3 for online gaming as well).
Thanks for listening

What TD meant, a root browser that will properly read the root directory. Some file browsers fail at that.

Bump some moar? Read some moar?
Seriously though, it's a text file. Just delete it or delete its contents.
Also, I believe using your phone as a hotspot without paying for it is violating your TOS. It's a good way to get kicked off the network.

Workaround to write to Ext SDCARD?

I just switched from my M7 to the M8 yesterday. I was excited to have the external SD for saving pictures, moving apps, but mostly to host my backups. I have since unlocked my bootloader and rooted the device. Unfortunately I'm unable to write any back ups through TWRP to the card. I was wondering if anyone found any fixes? I've already tried SDFix but it seems not to work with our device. Any help would be appreciated!
Sidenote: I know this probably belongs under development but I'm unable to post yet as my post count is too low. Thanks again!

I tried it again using "su". I'm pretty sure that is what I used the first time as well because when I entered the command the super user prompt came up to allow access for terminal. Same results. Didn't see any confirmation. Exited app and tried running SDFix and failed again. I then followed your link to your thread and followed step by step. Got all the way to the point where I was trying to save the text document at the end and got the prompt that I could not save the file.
I'm usually pretty good at following tutorials and I'm sure I'm not skipping steps but who knows. I think this one has me defeated lol.
If you put it on your SD card try just /sdcard/wp_mod.ko

Sure. Here it is:
You need to make following change to platform.xml in /system/etc.
Add <group gid="Media_rw"/> under WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE(or similar).
Save. Set Permission to rw-r-r or 644.
Reboot and Enjoy
Good luck :good:

Well I ran through both tutorials (yours and the others) once again. Entered the command twice to confirm and got the message "failed file already exists". So I'm assuming that part went through fine but still unable to run SDFix successfully or edit the install_recovery.sh file. Wouldn't allow me to save through es text edit or the standard one.
So now I'm trying to manually change the platform.xml file. When I navigate to system/etc I don't see any file named "platform.xml". Also tried a search through es file explorer and couldn't find any file. Any thoughts?

So now I'm trying to manually change the platform.xml file. When I navigate to system/etc I don't see any file named "platform.xml". Also tried a search through es file explorer and couldn't find any file. Any thoughts?

Are you mounting it as r/w in the file explorer? It doesn't seem like you're doing that. I know the module works.. You can't just install the module and it's magically writable.. you still have to make it r/w in a file explorer before you make any changes. I don't use es. I use root explorer and there is a r/w button on top.

Wow. Excuse my ignorance. I wasn't doing that. I downloaded root explorer and used the button to mount as you mentioned and viola I was able to save the edits! I'm now able to create folders on the ext SD. Still get an error when trying to backup from twrp but I guess that's an issue for another day.
I really appreciate all the help!

As of now recovery doesn't support exfat formatted cards, If your sd card is formatted as exfat it will fail in recovery. You need to either format your external sd card to fat32 or just wait until the recovery is updated to support exfat. It will once they get kernel source code

How far out do you think that is? I was figuring I could just get a cheaper card for my backups. Only thing is if I remember correctly Fat32 only supports up to 4GB files correct? I remember my backups being a tad over that so getting another card might not even make a difference.
