Ive looked around but couldnt find any threads about it (sorry if it should be in the Dev area but cant post there yet) Just wondering if anyone has a mod to get the Volume Rocker wake option. Ive recently gone back to custom Sense ROMs and find it disappointing that they dont have this option. Any help is appreciated.
I thought there was an option in Widgetlocker to do that. Maybe you can use that app, it's a good lockscreen replacement app!
There is a app on google store that can help, it's called Wake All

Im pretty sure i have seen a way to do it by editing the directory. Seen this post but not sure how to go about it TBH
Tigger31337 said:
1. Navigate to this directory on your phone:
\system\usr\keylayout
2. Modify the file "marvel-keypad.kl" by removing the following lines:
key 115 VOLUME_UP WAKE
key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
(Delete the entire lines)
3. Perform the same mod on the file "qwerty.kl"
4. Reboot.
5. If works, click Thanks and buy me a beer. If you're short on time, just buy me a beer.

I was looking to change the user configurable buttons on my Desire Z but couldn't find a easy guide or simple solution. I started to experiment a bit. This is what I found out:
To change the layout you only need to things:
1. a rooted phone
2. A program like Root explorer with R/W permissions
Then do the following:
Go to system/usr/keylayout and open the file for the layout you are using in a text editor (in my case this was the WWE version)
I then changed 'user 1' to 'HOME' and 'user 2' to 'BACK'.
I did a soft reset and I now use the user 1 button to go to the home screen and the user 2 button to go back
note: This guide is problably written a 1000 times but I couldn't find it so I hope it's my first real (small) contribution

Thanks for the guide! And actually, this method can provide some neat tricks!
For example, I personally never use the search button. So instead, I can change the Search key to USER1 and now the search key is a User-Assignable button!
EDIT: It appears that the Search hardware key and the Search touchkey have different key mapping ID. But the virtual Search touchkey doesn't seem to be listed in keylayout at all. Weird.
There's an app for that
Also, AFAIK it should be possible to remap the capacitive search button.

The capacitive search button is 217, which is the same as the hardware search button. But my hardware button is doing what I assigned it, while my capacitive one is not doing anything.
It's either not linking, or my phone's capacitive search button is broken.

I think it's a bit more difficult, you should look in Andromadus thread where someone did it, there's a zip to download...
edit: here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516942 the zip is attached, don't know if it works with every rom, surely with andromadus, but we are OT, sorry.

much easier to use power button if they change it to search button
I actually agree on this, my power button is quite fiddly to press, and having it at the front would solve that. But there is also the matter of accedently pressing it.
for you
Why would you need that may I ask?...The search button is called search button for the function of using search. Is this your real idea/question or your power button is not functioning and you need to use an alternative?

ive been in LG optimus one last time..
my search button is useless and now ive got this XPERIA PLAY and AGAIN
my search button is useless and i dont need this becoz i dont use it..
thats why i ask this if someone will make it
becoz power button is far to press
Here is how you do it
Download RootExplorer or a similar app that can edit /system/
Navigate to /system/usr/keylayout/
Open keypad-zeus.kl as a text file
Near the bottom, change
Code:
key 217 SEARCH
to
Code:
key 217 POWER
Save the changes made, and reboot your phone.
Be careful, this also makes the search button the screen lock button if I'm not mistaken.

I take no credit for this Mod. I found this posted in the i9300 section here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767954&page=2. All credit goes to andrewilley.
What this does is map the volume up and down controls on the headset to next and previous track instead. I suggest that you only use this if you are using the wired headphones and want that functionality. Because this will change it for bluetooth devices also. So if you have a headset that already has buttons for both volume and tracks this isn't for you.
Here is andrews post from that thread.
Code:
I've managed to get the second and third headset buttons acting as next/previous track functions - without needing any extra software (although of course you can add extra facilities using Headset Button Controller later if you wish). The side volume rocker still works for volume control.
Christoph Kober pointed me to some documentation on the Android key mapping files (http://source.android.com/tech/input...out-files.html) which helped me in the right direction. I first tried to edit the small file which looked like it handled the headset, but that did not change anything. Then I tried editing the master key mapper file, and that did the job. I assumed that this would also remap the on-device volume buttons too, but fortunately there is another mapping file which overrides the generic one to handle the four hardware buttons - so they get re-mapped back to volume again. Perfect!
You'll need root access and a text editor for this. Don't mess with this lightly, you are editing system files!!!
1) Navigate to folder /system/usr/keylayout/
2) Backup the current Generic.kl file (you were going to do that anyway, right? If you weren't, probably best not go any further...)
3) Edit the file Generic.kl using a text editor
3) Comment out the lines for keys 114 and 115 (just put a # at the start of those two lines) thus:
# key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
# key 115 VOLUME_UP WAKE
4) Find the lines for keys 163 and 165, which look like this:
key 163 MEDIA_NEXT WAKE
key 165 MEDIA_PREVIOUS WAKE
5) change the numbers from '163' to '115', and from '165' to '114', thus:
key 115 MEDIA_NEXT WAKE
key 114 MEDIA_PREVIOUS WAKE
6) Save and reboot

You would have to find to volume rocker buttons and change them but then you couldn't change the volume with them.

Would that be in the same generic.kl? or in a different spot? I use that an awful lot, more than volume adjust... so I could live with it for now until a custom rom comes out with it included, not sure of any yet.

is there any way to make it like the g2 where it doesn't change tracks unless you hold it? and if you just click it it still increases or decreases the volume
I have been unable to get this to work on JB AOKP. Installing the flashable or direct edit results in losing all controls from the headphones. If anybody has been able to get this running on AOKP i would love to know how.
Maybe in this generic.kl file we can set those headsets with "iphone made" buttons to work with android?
I have one with 3 buttons, and all of them gives me google now when pressed. (JB)

I would like to get this working, anyone else have any ideas?
Hey all,
I disabled the lockscreen on my arc because I found that with my case I don't have any issues with pocket dials and etc.
However now to turn on my screen I prefer to press the home button (rather then the unlock button on top). But whenever I press this button I find 9 times out of 10 the screen turns on, has lag for 1-5 seconds, then the recent apps drawer opens up. It does this even if I just tap the home button when its off. It seems when the phone is sleeping it thinks my quick press of the home button is a long press (causing the drawer to open up)
Is there any way to disable the recent apps from popping up? Or possible change the button that opens it? I am using Apex launcher and I don't see this as an option in there, I would like to stick with the same launcher if I can avoid changing.
Thanks everyone.
Edit: Sorry mods, meant to post this in Q & A
Anyone have any ideas? I am not finding much by searching.

im not sure try to look at /SYSTEM/USR/KEYLAYOUT/pm8058-keypad.kl (dont know if the name is that also for u) but this will change all option for a specif key. look other file around there in tht folder. i never did im sorry
There is also the Generic.kl file with all buttons and their function, the 102 is the home if im not wrong and the 139 the menu. Try to look if u find something like a line where it say that the 102 open the recent app and give it to someone. i dont have idea if this work xD

Hey there, sorry it took me a bit to get back to you.
So I went and tried this to no avail. Searched almost every file/folder (keyword search) for home, hold, and recent. It came up with nothing that looked any different then the other stuff. I am sort of thinking I am out of luck here.
Unless there is a way to edit my CPU settings to make it boot faster from sleep (thus preventing it from lagging/thinking I am holding the button?)
So I am to impatient to wait for the 4.4 update where hopefully we will get the recent apps button to replace the menu key so I did what I could for now.
You have to be rooted and have a root file manager.
open the file manger and go to system
then to usr
then to keylayout
now open the Generic.kl
scroll down to key 139
open as a text file
change from "MENU" to "APP_SWTICH"
no "" needed
save the file and reboot
Honestly i did it in the sec_e-pen.kl and sec_keyboard.kl and sec_touchscreen.kl just to be sure. I dont know if it is needed but i did anyway and have had no side affects.
Again if this has been posted before feel free to delete or move just i havent seen it so i thought others would want to know:good:
Sounds like a nice little tweak! But doesn't that cause problems with apps that don't have a menu button in the interface?

I suppose it would but so far most apps and games have the pull out menu or some kind of options thats easily accessible through the app itself. i guess since almost all of android expect samsung did away with the menu button most apps dont need you to have one
I love this option, but i wonder if its also possible to map the long press of the menu key to "menu", any ideas?

gravitybox works, i hope u r not mistaking, install xposed installer, open it, go to framework, click install/update, app_process and xposedbridge.jar will install n will reboot, now go to modules and install gravitybox, and then activate it, in the modules, tick it in the checkbox, so its activated, now it will work, try this, hope it will work for u as well,
When I do that, will apps that doesn't show on screen menu button start to show? (For example, Chrome)

The xposed module "menu be gone" remaps the menu key to be a recents key, and if you long press it, it is a menu key.
It work but it is "APP_SWITCH", you wrote wrong, beware!!!
