Dont remember what apk its in. Its either in /system/app/systemui.apk, /system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk, or /system/framework/framework-res.apk. Use a zip manager like 7zip to open the apk and look for the pic file. When you find it, just copy and paste it to your desktop.
EDIT: Actually i think its in /system/app/phone.apk

Path problem?

Hi there,
I noticed when trying to open a file with for instance pqview, I can only see the my documents directory. I know there´s a fix for this somewhere on this forum, I only have not be able to find it with the search feature...
Does someone know what to do?
Thanks
Anyone any idea?
Please please? I know there´s a fix for this somewhere on this forum. Just can´t find it. Would really appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction
for starters...
update ur signature. tell us ur phone version ur rom ur radio and the details of who cooked the rom.
second more details on ur question such as the app u were using to open with.
i dont have this problem. the apps always show two three or four options as to base location to choose from.
either my device. storage card. network. or extended rom if unhidden.
these r usually located at the top left as a drop down.
u may have lost ur sd card... if indeed that is where ur looking.
in the end dude... urnt a noob with that many posts either that or u have been flamed some.
first signature. then lots more details. we r not mind readers n dont have time to bugger around with people who ask such half baked questions with inadequate details to give u an answer.

yes... which api are you using?
Thanks for the replies. I'm using the LVSW version WM6, of 26th march, for the Hermes. The program which has the issue, is pqview.
I have not lost my SD card. It is accesible through file explorer
can you post a link of the pqview website...

Walshieau, I don't know. I downloaded it from the "Rocking software" section on this site. But it's no longer there. Well, do you know of any other good picture viewer then? With easy zooming/thumbnail overview?
Regards.

I don't find the build in app easy. To zoom for instance, one must go to options, zoom. I like to see thumbnails as well.
@dmxl
Here is the link to the thing.
You will also find a nice flash animation on how to use it here - it is showing pictures like one attached.
Please use Google first. This is not a support forum for PQView.

The attached picture is printscreen of the instructional flash presentation there which tells how to open a different directory. In short to open a directory other than My documents there is a way: In Pqview tap file>>Open Image>>you see open file screen which offers my documents folder for browsing, if you tap the screen directly above left top edge of this box you will get dropdown box in which you can choose to browse : your device (which means you can browse further for whatever file you have on your phone) or My documents. See attached screenshot. It does not show the caption of the current folder for me but you can clearly see where to tap if you want to open a file wrom within PQView. I managed to open some pictures so you should be able to do so too.

At the last i made my custom ROM,now comes the questions?

Hello, atlast after 3days of download and work i have made a custom Rom that has my name on it with HTC Desire HD stuff and updates but now what i need to ask is :
1) how can i put my name Rom name in the Notification like RCMix or the others?
2) any easy way to make boot screens or animations or so found but that i can edit or anything?
3) any way to make a custem theme there is only the online thing and sadly i dont knw how to use it or its limited, i want like AuraxTSense is it possible?
4) if i have a update.zip file that has in it an .apk can i take it and add it to the app section and it will work normaly?
that is it for now thanks a lot for all the help i get and links....
To add your own version number, open the build.prop file and add it to the end of the 'Software version' line
To build themes from scratch, I believe that you'd have to rip apart the res-framework.apk.

If you change the .apk to .rar you can extract and see some jpegs and whatnot in their folders. This should be the one to edit.
Then again, these are the things I've picked up from the chatter between the more senior and tech-savvy.
You might want to look at this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=729867

Question to app programmers

What is the reason behind naming apk "com.WORDHERE.APPNAMEHERE" is there a certain pattern to follow for this? Thank You!
Thread moved to Q&A.
It defines the namespace for your app. Usually it is a reversed version of your domain name. For instance, my domain is webosnerd.com, so my packages are com.webosnerd.appname. I think it's a Java thing.

It all has to do with the way the file system is set up. If u look in the apk after its recompiled in the smali files Ull see a set of folders...first one will be com then the folder inside of that will be the com.here then the folder inside of that will be next like this com.here.next. meaning if u were looking in on ur computer it would look like this com/here/next. Its a way of calling files
thanks for the help guys! i'm gearing myself to make my first android app... or maybe i'll start with themes. Thanks!

Yes, it's a Java development pattern / best practice. Android apps are written using the Java language so most developers follow Java best practices when they develop for Android.
As to WHY it's a best practice: The .apk is just a .zip file that makes it easy to move the app around. The Android Market only has to keep track of one .apk file instead of the thousand of files that actually make up the application. Once the .apk file is on the device it is inflated back into a set of files/folders. When it does the unzipping, dots are replaced with /'s and we end up with something like:
/com/SuttCo/AppNumberOne/FolderA/file.jpg
/com/SuttCo/AppNumberOne/FolderB/file.jpg
/com/SuttCo/AppNumberOne/FolderC/file.jpg
/com/SuttCo/AppNumberTwo/FolderA/file.jpg
/com/SuttCo/AppNumberTwo/FolderB/file.jpg
As you can see... both SuttCo apps share the /com/SuttCo/ directory.
tl; dr; It's so things stay organized.

[Q] Begginner's Theming Question

I am very interested in theming and I downloaded all the recommended software/programs mentioned in the theming threads...
However I can NOT find the answer to my question---
once I have everything I need to edit/create a theme how do I actually begin?
What I mean is, for example, if you want to edit a .PSD file you would open Photoshop to edit the file....
so which program do I use first to open the theme I plan to edit? and is there a "stock" theme to edit as I like or would I download...say...the Evo stock ROM and edit the files in there?
I think I read I should begin with 7z? is this right?
All I've found so far is alot of technical explanations for someone who has experience...once I find out the basics I'm sure it will all fall into place...
if there IS an easy answer posted can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
*EDIT*
I was double-clicking on framework-res.apk (following instructions) which was why it wasn't working...once I extracted the file using 7zip all the drawable files were there...I had NO IDEA there were THIS many .png images to edit...lord have mercy...this is gonna be FUN.
If u use a program called apk manager u can put an apk in the and decompile the apk. That mean it opens up the resources.arcs and the classes.dex files and also turns the bianry XML files to readable XML. Meaning u can use this to edit XML and smali files to change colors(mostly in xml files) and also rearange things if u know how to edit smali files. The decompiling also show u all the pngs and the .9 PNG files. The .9 PNG files here will already be showing there draw 9 edit so all u really have to do is edit the image leaving the very edges alone and ur done. Then once all ur edits are done u can recompile the apk and push it back to ur phone. U might have to resign the apk or however u want but there is an easy way to get started. The framework apk is a system apk so u might have to select the correct way to decompile it.
Hope this helps.
See other tutorials on how to create flashable zips and how to edit smali files and XML files.
Usually codes in XML files for colors are set in an eight digit code that cool look like this...ff000000(black) or this ffffffff(white). If u good XML color codes u can find many sites that give show u colors and there codes but to help it works like this...ffrrbbgg....meaning ff (amount of transparency) rr (red) bb (blue) gg (green). I might have put colors in wrong order but u get gist I hope.
Just make sure when editing ur PNG images that when u save them u save them as a PNG only also when editing .9 png files(stretchable pngs) that u leave it as a .9png file. When u save it if it asks just save as PNG but the .9 will stay.
Hope this helps a little
Btw the amount if edits through out an entire them (many apks) is rediculous and many people have no clue how time consuming it can be.
If u need further help u can gtalk me and id be happy to walk u through the process. [email protected]
yeah I downloadad all the tools needed but where I got stuck was, once I have the tools, ROM, etc where do I actually begin at?
I was reading the Ultimate Theming Guide by Google (here) but got confused when it said "double-click the framework-res.apk"...it should have said "extract framework-res.apk with 7ZIP"....when I double-clicked I got all the crazy-looking letters that seemed to be encoded...when I extracted with 7ZIP I saw all the drawable images...all 800+ of them...had no idea there were that many...
so all I have to do, as far as small changes, is edit the .png images in the drawable folders, archive it back together and sign it? do I make it a .ZIP or an UPDATE archive?

If u edit their colors u have to run in draw9patch and then recompile them. There is a program called "xultimate-d9pc" that u can use to recompile them. Do a goodle search and Ull find the script. Its easy to use and easy to setup. If u don't ur .9 files will look jacked up
i have that(couldnt get it to work right) i'll try it again. thanks smurf

To get it to work I created a folder call draw 9 compiler. I put the script and the folder called originals in there. Inside the original folder I creates a few folders called drawable, drawable-hdpi, drawable-mdpi, drawable-ldpi. Then after I edit and draw9patch my images I put each one in the ffolders they belong in and go to xultamate-d9pc and click k on it and it will create a done folder u can go into and and all the images will be fixed in there
I'll try that, thanks for the tip
now the voices are 3d
sweet that looks to work perfect only thing extra i had to do was make original/res/then the other folders you said. thank you smurf

T-Mobile GS3 "SamsungCamera.odex" file request

Greetings!
I originally posted a troubleshooting question relating to file naming conventions and the inability to rename a file once it has been erroneously named....
short version: I am requesting the "SamsungCamera.odex" file from the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 phone. Mine is corrupted and as such I cant utilize the camera or the video camera on the phone.. (not too fun on a brand new phone...)
For the long version(or to help me see how/why this happened or how to fix it the correct way... please see this thread.
Thank you, in advance, for anyone that can please help me to fix this incredibly annoying problem.

Here you go, dude. (.odex isn't listed as a valid file extension for upload on the forum, so I zipped it.)

Thank you so much!!!!
I'm going to try placing that file in the /system/app folder right now and hopefully that will restore stock functionality to the video camera!
Will follow up!
Thank you a million! .. quite sincerely!
That worked like a charm!
Dropped the (correctly named) SamsungCamera.odex file in the /system/app folder, renamed the modified camera apk to ".apk.modded" and renamed the original apk file back to ".apk" extension and viola: Instant camera functionality.
Thank you, again, so much.
You've literally made my day!
Thank you.
Hi! Could you upload the original SamsungCamera.apk, please? Because when I'm tried to install HX Camera mod, i put the two files into a zip, when the Root Browser crashed. The two files were gone, and the zip became corrupt. After this, i put the mod to system\app. On the first run, it worked, but after a while it crashed. I run the camera again and it crashed after a time, again, and again. So I decided to try the video. And now it doesn't even want to start. So that's why i request the stock camera, and please upload as soon as possible. Thanks.
