hey there
I can help you out. I am new as well but I was at least able to Root my phone.
What you want to do is find the Rogers Root file as well as download Odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
go there and download..
Rogers Image
Perm Mirror 1: Rogers I747MVLALH1 Download
Perm Mirror 2: Thanks to zaghy2zy!: Rogers I747MVLALH1 Download
Also download...
Second,
Extract the stock_root67.tar from the .7z file you downloaded.
Use Odin, put phone into download mode [with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the stock_root67.tar you downloaded.
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and
when done let phone reboot.
If you have issues flashing with Odin please ensure you are using the microusb cable that came with the phone, users have had issues using other cables.
The word odin sends you a direct link
Follow those steps and your phone is rooted.
cheers,
click thanks!

hello everybody anyone can help me to put my phone back on service i will donate,i brought my phone from singapore via internet but after i update via OTA my phone died and it not reboot anymore then i read in here and download the Bin4ry file for flashtool, after flashing my phone come back and its booting now but the problem is it show no sevice and insert sim card even the sim was inserted
You should also say that you had UNLOCKED the bootloader and then tried to do some other kinds of flashing with fastboot, only then you tried later to update FOTA, then it bricked your phone.
Anyway, I think you should read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358
And I think that since you have mentioned you tried everything, you have to read the above thread and follow the instructions therein very carefully and correctly - hopefully you will get it working and buy me and the creator of the process coffees too.
Appended edit:
Hey, I had got Bin4ry's attention for you here, so please follow up with him or others if you really really want people to help you - help yourself too.

Bin4ry,
You wrote this in some other thread, you said:
"
If you do the trick with flashin simlock.ta as preset.ta you completely damage your Simlock Partiton! You now need to resign it for getting it working again, this can only be done @ SE or by pay Servers on the internet.
So sorry, no way for you to recover in this forums.
The OP is just for people who do not used other recovery tries to get the phone working. It will fix phone completely from dead state, if you already got it working without sim-detection you messed too much. :/"
Is this still true? Meaning, if this is done, there is no hope with any kind of procedure?
better reflash it with stock rom via flashtool
Hey,
Made a few posts relating to my issues with the galaxy nexus and it not charging etc....
Now I have contacted Samsung and they said send it for repair, not this leaves me in a bit of a pickle seeing as the phone has been rooted since day one.
The issue comes as the phone does not respond to being plugged into the computer despite all drivers being installed.
Has any bright person got any idea's to removing the root on the handset and re-flashing stock .img without the need of adb and fastboot seeing as the phone just comes up as not recognised, probably due to the issues with the USB port on the handset (see initial problem...)
Don't really want to send it back to Samsung rooted as they will just send it back saying its my fault even though its not and its a hardware issue.... not software.
Any advice would be great,
J
P.s. Had a check around the internet on several Google groups about this issue and the only conclusion is send back to Samsung or get a new USB port for the phone from Ebay.
Just flash a stock ROM in recovery then use this app to lock bootloader http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27878074 and then unroot (SuperSU has this option).
You are my friend is why i love XDA , thanks for the advice.

See this post for a much better explanation
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/19864-vz...ockrootflash-romsfaq/page__st__40#entry759280
Essentially that tells you to lock bootloader and then use mobile odin to flash a stock ROM.

Hey all,
I have NEVER tried to unlock or root a phone before, but I have the desire to try it now.
I have the T-mobile SGH-T999 with the new Android Jellybean 4.1.1 (Build Number JRO0L.T999UVDLJA)
I want to try to root my phone, but I would like to keep as much of the the new update (Jellybean) as possible instead of reverting to ICS. What I'm wondering is, what should I do to root the phone, and what programs are preffered, etc. Also, I was wondering how to back up my current build in case I want to set it back to default in case of warranty issues that I had to return it.
I am sure others have asked... maybe this would be a good sticky, I don't know... but I am hoping someone will take the time to point me in the right direction.
I need to know
a.) What I need to backup pre-root
b.) What software is best to root
c.) Any special instructions for rooting that may be specific for this build or this phone
d.) How to un-root in case I need to return the phone.
Any help would be appreciated, and apologies in advance if this is a repeated question. I just figured I'd ask because of the new update.
Thanks!

I would think the easiest is to use the root injected rom from this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
It is what I did and I have full root access and stock rom with no counter tripped. Backup preroot will be difficult but as long as everything is set up with google, you should be able to get all of your contacts back but not settings. Once rooted, you can use titanium backup. Great program. If you want to unroot you can use the same method you used to root but you can just odin back to the original rom again. If you like my response please click on Thanks.
Thanks!
I took a look at the thread you sent me, and have contacted the original member to get step by steps, just to make sure I dont screw it up.
Hopefully it will work as desired.

The person who wrote the thread may or may not have time to give a more detailed run-through.
I used that thread to root my phone - honestly, all the instructions have already been given in it. I have never done anything like this and I just followed the instructions as given - the process is covered completely. I'm not sure what more they could tell you.
Not trying to be rude. Just understand that they have already provided a full guide and it might be more considerate to ask questions to the open forum about any step that is troubling you - that way anyone who has free time can answer.
Ok

Thanks for that, I guess I just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving anything to chance. Since the phone is a pretty penny, I didn't want to be screwed if I tried to root and somehow screwed up the phone.
I'll see if he responds in the next few days, if not, I'll give it a go.
thanks again!

It's so easy, you'd be hard pressed to screw it up.
Step 1): Download the Samsung USB Drivers from their site
Step 2): Download the pre-rooted stock firmware from the previously listed link here at xda(make sure you get the 4.1 with root)
Step 3): Download ODIN
Step 4): Plug phone into PC and launch ODIN
Step 5): Click "PDA" and then browse to the firmware you downloaded
Step 6): Hit Flash.
Step 7): Wait, wait some more. Wait more.
Step 8): Watch phone reboot and sweat manically as its your first time and you think you've bricked your phone.
Step 9): Tinker like a madman when your phone comes back and you see its rooted.
Step 10 through ifiniti): Continue to tinker, eventually find rom manager and aftermarket roms. some good, some bad.
PM me if you want and I can walk you through it via IM or something. I can even throw you my rom, which is essentially stock with all the tmobile BS removed.
Awesome (Easy) walkthrough

And then, if I need to send it back, I'd have to unroot the phone too, so I wanted to make sure I saved whatever I needed to. As for using yoru version without the bloatware, the bloatware doesn't bother me, since I use the Visual Voicemail, and the My Account features to manage the account for my wife and I. I just want to make sure I'm injecting the right stuff.

You can always run a debloated rom and then reinstall the tmobile specific stuff.

I followed the directions outlined in the topic I linked to above to root my Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
However once the rooting process was done my phone came back on and it was completely unable to read the sim card.
Not only that it wouldn't stay on. After 5 minutes the screen would go black however the power would still be on as I can see my led light flashing that I'm receiving messages and alerts.
To hopefully fix this I went ahead and unrooted my phone using the same application in the topic linked to above and the results are that it still won't read my sim and it the power issue is the same.
Can someone please help me out with this and provide the instructions I need to return my phone back to what it once was.
Then can someone also provide a reliable way of rooting the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that won't cause my phone to become unresponsive.
Thanks

your answer lies here flash the file found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159652 for i 317 and search for your custom rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1870 and after rooting just to be on the safer side do efs backup http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922473 and if you are doing it through toolkit it must be option 51 for 4.1.1 and option 52 for 4.1.2 Jb
I am not very advanced at all when it comes to flashing and rooting.
It's hard for me to just go and flash my phone that's why I had used that simple program that I linked to in the OP.
I just looked in the settings on my phone it it says
Mobile Network Type = Unknown
Service State = Out of service
My phone number = Unknown
IMEI = Unknown
IMEISV = Unknown
Device Status = Modified
I could really use some exact instructions on what stock rom for the note 2 is best and step by step instructions on how I flash it on.
I could also use some help with finding step by step instructions on how to root my note 2 successfully without running into this problem again.
Thanks

there is no huge process just get a stock rom which is compatible for your device make sure usb debugging is enabled in device then open odin,
get your phone in download mode and connect to pc , on the PDA search for .tar file you downloaded and make sure the odin detects your device and start flashing.
search in youtube there are many videos too.
So I followed the instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052779 there to try and un-root my phone however I am still with the same results.
The phone reads my IMEI number as unknown and it still cannot read my sim card at all. My power comes on but once it goes inactive it stays off and to turn it back on I have to take the battery out, replace it, then power back on only for it to do the same thing and the process to be repeated once more.
I could really use some step by step instructions say for instance is there another way I can go about restoring stock ware on the phone. If so where are the links to the programs I need to download and what is the sequence I use those programs exactly to restore my phone back to stock. What commands and instructions need to be done within those programs.
I would like to root my phone once it's been returned back to a working functioning status as I cannot make calls or anything right now. I was looking at putting Cyaneogen Mod on it however if there is a better software I would appreciate if you could point it out. What programs do I use and how do I use those programs exactly so that I don't end up with the same result that I have right now where I
m unable to do anything with my phone.
I really hope someone helps me at the level I'm asking. I know it's a lot but I will be really grateful for the assistance.
Ok.. I have a T-Mobile Note 3 now… and I am trying to root it… expected it to be easy, after dealing with my AT&T note 3 with its lockedboot loader!!!!
...not so much…
SO… two problems so far:
The instructions I am finding tell me to “turn off ‘Reactivation lock’ feature is turned off under Security Settings.
….and I can not find that setting !!
Second problem:
The problem I am having is that one of the first things I need to do is figure out my “AP Version”, and the instructions I am finding to do so is to dial *#1234# on my phone.
Unfortunately, what I get when I do that is: First it says “USSD CODE RUNNING” and then it says “unable to process request”
Is there any other way to get this information?
Thank you for any help!!

What ??? What guide are you trying to follow? Please post link as i would like to see this.
1. Settings>General>Security make sure reactivation (like 4th option down) is unclicked. If it is set, you did this when you first set up your phone.
2. Don't know why you need AP information. There is absolutely "NO" need for this in the rooting process.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you are running a brand new Note 3 from the store running JellyBean 4.3. The first post in this thread is the FAQ's . The second Question gives you links on how to root your phone. That's pretty much all you need to do. CF_Auto root is a 30 sec rooting process using a windows computer. Root De La Vega will root your phone also, but is no longer support by the developer.
"reactivation issue"

Hi!
Thank you for your help!!
I think I might be being too paranoid... but I am trying to do this very carefully, so that I do not brick my phone... and it is difficult when things do not line up.
I just bought THIS note 3 used, and factory reset it. I took three screen shots.. one showing the "about" screen... the other two showing all the options under "security"... none of which mention "reactivation"
I performed a hard reset on the phone just before I did this, incase the re was other stuff done to it before.
Am I missing something?
Thank you for any help!!

...and the latest: I noticed that I can not get software updates (it says s "custom updates not available...") I do some research, and it looks like I should check to see if my knox counter has been triggered (I did buy this phone used.. so who knows...)
I follow the online instructions .. it goes to recovery booting".. and NO mention of knox... or what the knox status is.
WTF?!? I am not a software engineer,,, but I *HAVE* rooted phones before... and epic 4g, S3, and note 2 ... and NEVER have I had this much trouble!?!?!?!
