[Help] Stock ICS Kernel with AOKP JB KXP for Arc S - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I don't understand if the ROM KXP need a custom Kernel or if works also with the stock ICS Kernel, with bootloader locked...I'm referring to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859518
Anyone can help me about this? Thanks and sorry for my bad english

The ROM will not work with stock kernel. If you want to flash custom kernel you should unlock bootloader.

[Q] Forgot to flash the kernel before installing ICS beta rom with xperia arc

Hi all,
My phone is rooted and has an unlocked bootloader, but I tried to install this rom today:
MooDeD ICS ROM v.4.0 / xUltimate v7.0 Engine [ROM]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717
But I forgot to flash the new boot.img (new kernel), wich I had to install using flashtool. Now I can't normally boot my Arc (I can understand why), but I also can't get into CWM recovery! So do I know have to flash the new kernel wich I had to do before.. or can I get Android 2.3.4 somehow back on my Arc? And if I flash the new kernel for ICS can I flash it back to the kernel for Gingerbread afterwarts? The new kernel is based on ICS beta btw.
I hope you can help me
Everything is working very well since I flashed the ICS kernel I am now running Mooded ICS rom v30.5 without any problems (few bugs in the rom, but overcomable)

I figured that flashing ICS kernel and install the rom again worked when I had flashed the kernel I could get back into recovery again Thanks for your reply
does the DoomLord Kernel work on a ICS rom? Or does it has to be the ICS kernell by DoomLord?! on other words on ICS Roms the kernel has also to be based on ICS?
That's correct as far as I know has to be ics

I don't recommend doomlord because it's a bit buggy, but there are plenty of usefull kernells. To make ICS work you will need ICS kernell

You must flash your phone with .42 firmware. With the firmware itself, you get the stock kernel.

1. GB use GB kernel, ICS use ICS kernel, JB use JB kernel. Don't mix up any of the kernels.
2. Yes, it's that simple.

Thanks for quick reply.
I want to confirm that I can:
1. flash a ICS/JB custom kernel to my Arc (still at GB, unlocked bootloader)
2. after flash kernel, use CWM to install a custom rom ICS or JB.
Still want to make sure this. Thanks.

Yes. CWM is already included within the custom kernel, so after you flash the kernel, enter the recovery immediately.
ICS/JB kernel will not boot into GB.

Did you search the forums here for the Fusion kernel? You should be able to find the kernel there along with instructions on how to install it onto your phone.

[Q] Noob questions about Kernel

Hi there!!
I'm about to unlock my phone bootloader, and i wanna know some things about kernels:
Can i "downgrade" the kernel. For example from a KitKat kernel to Stock (Jelly Bean 4.1) Kernel?
Can i use a KitKat Kernel in a Jelly Bean Rom?
If Kernel have CWM recovery, it still working even if ROM stop working?
I know that in Linux you can update to the lastest kernel in same distro and don't matters, but Android is "special"...
Now i've CWM for locked bootloader and it is installed in ROM instead in Kernel, then if ROM is damaged CWM can stop working. I think if is included in Kernel then don't matters what happen in ROM, but I want to be sure.
Thanks!!
I'm not really sure about question 1 & 2.
Answer for question 3:
Yes, the recovery should work even the rom is messed up.
Thats when bootloop happen .

1- Each rom has a specific kernel so if you want to install a kitkat kernel you can't install a JB rom so if you want to downgrade you can only downgrade the version of the kernel !!!
2-As I mentioned above you can't
3-Yes because the kernel is not damaged in your case so CWM will be working with no issues !!!
Thanks!!!, for now i'm still using a JB kernel with JB Rom. Waiting for a full working port of xLoud

If You are going to unlock Your bootloader in future, do remember to backup Your TA partition.
