I have recently upgraded from a Galaxy S to the S III. I like the phone, however I am about ready to pay the re-stocking fee, and find another. My issue is that I can not sync any documents with my PC, using the USB Cable. With Kies, it will sync everything else (all the "play" things - photos and MP3's), but I use it for work and I need to be able to sync .pdf files and documents. I have use "Documents-to-go" since I switched to android OS, and ActiveSync for my old window phones, but it doesn't work on this Galaxy S III. Can anyone suggest a "work-around", or application that handles this function? Thanks for your help.
Drop box and Quick office. You can access your online documents straight from quickoffice and its cheaper than paying the restocking fee.

Is there another program besides "Drop Box"? Drop Box is a web based, storage program. I need a simple, connect by USB cable and sync application! Due to our corporate policy, they have the web locked down tight. It seems completely ridiculous that this would be such an issue with the SGH-I747....

i've been trying to find info over the last 30-60mins, and cant find anything really conclusive.
the best info i've found is phone7 is going for blackberry market.
however, from the many other results i've found, it's very limited an no where near capable of being a business-grade OS.
ok, what i've been trying to find out is the following:
having a wm6 handset right now, what features is phone7 missing?
is mass-storage mode available?
is exchange 2007 sync available, or is it only exchange2010 compatible?
is the office suite complete? (word, excel, powerpoint, sharepoint etc)
i'm having a hard time realising what phone7 is like in the corporate environment and everything seems to be so focused on facebook and the social side of things, rather than serious business requirements.
i've had the luxury to use android on my touchHD for more than just a few minutes, so i know what it's capable of. phone7 on the other hand i dont have the luxury of trialling.

1) Mass Storage = NO - Use a USB stick. Use DropBox. Use SkyDrive. Use something else but don't use the phone as a storage device. Think about it this way. You carry the WP7 device with you and you have something on it. You then have to carry the sync cable and make sure that the other computer can install the device driver on it as well. There are many other reasons I can understand why it isn't a good reason to use the WP7 phone as a Mass Storage Device.
2) Exchange 2007 and 2010 = YES - I sync to both type of servers with Policies.
3) Office Suite = Word, Excel PowerPoint, OneNote, Sharepoint.

What about Exchange 2003?
Hiya ive had a device since the 21st and this is what ive found.
Q1. Having a wm6 handset right now, what features is phone7 missing?
A1. There are no Notes sync with using exchange but M$ answer is to use OneNote, no VPN or remote desktop. Most things have to be synced using an exchange server over the air. But contacts, Calendar and Email do work fine.
Q2. Is mass-storage mode available?
A2. No
Q3. Is exchange 2007 sync available, or is it only exchange2010 compatible?
A3. We are running exchange 2007 and it works just fine, 2010 will add sms backup weather this will work with WP7 i dont know but it does with 6.5.
Q4. Is the office suite complete? (word, excel, powerpoint, sharepoint etc)
A4. Yes Word, Excel, share point, One Note and Power Point is included. But the only way to get them to the phone is email or you will need a Live account to share documents.

short addon to the exchange sync info:
WP7 will not allow sync of tasks! (calendar will be synced)
Even check your capabilities to deploy certificates for ssl-secured exchange connections.
I've wrote a short closeup about my business experience HERE.
Greetings Ralf
thank you all for your replies.
lack of mass storage is a PITA for me personally. it's not so much a business need, but the ability to simply whack the phone onto any pc (i presume HTC are keeping the miniUSB connector, and not propriety) and use it an an 'emergency' pen drive is a requirement. most people have miniUSB cable now, and if not, then i'll have my car with me and have such cable present.
i actually use 'Mass Storage' it to install activesync, and then able to use activesync.
that said, another feature that i plan to use in the future is to use Mass Storage with my car; ala ipod when you connect with USB cable.
infact, having to install drivers/software to interface with the phone is a big turn off for me.
@2good4you - thanks for the link.
phone7 (in it's current form) is a complete disgrace. no teethering that'll annoy our mobile users!
time to work out if we want to be android-only, or symbian/android.

It's supposed to be able to work with Exchange 2003 as well but I don't know if it does.
TBH from a business point of view, this OS isn't geared up for it at least at the moment. M$ did state sometime earlier in the year that business and power users are a secondary concern. Basically they are aiming for a different market share to begin with. This doesn't mean that they are not going to cater for our needs - just not yet.

Agreed. Assumed most knew that tasks would not sync. He was asking in general terms. It does work. Certs can always be a pain no matter what. Sometimes its butter and other times it salt.
I hope the tasks update will come.

be careful there, I tried to use omnia 7 with my car to listen to music via usb it didn't work and when plugged back into WIN7x74 , it complained that drivers are missing, after countless hours of workaround i had to reset it and it is now fine.
i am using line connector for music now.
What syncing software comes with this galaxy nexus ?
Not sure yet. When the galaxy nexus comes out, I will tell you immediately...

Like most android phones it will most likely be drag and drop. But if you want to sync your music their are some great options you can use double twist, or you can use winamp (which has free wifi syncing) and who knows how many others. Your phone as always will be sync with google services calender, gmail, etc.
Umm USB Mass Storage?
When does an Android come with Syncing software?
Unless by Galaxy Nexus you mean iPhone and my sync software out mean iTunes.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV

Nexus phones usually don't have that kind of software since the things you would want to sync are synced to your Google account using the internet anyway.
In my opinion, syncing with a computer is something that shouldn't be necessary anymore and it isn't for most things.

When ICS was announced, Matias Duarte detailed that Chrome Bookmarks will sync with the browser as a part of the software. No drag and drop/sync needed.

Android phones don't require a Syncing software. Basically syncing is an option. With an Android you can literally own the phone for years without ever needing to connect it to a computer. Everything from apps to upgrades do not require a computer. When you download an app from the Android market on your desktop/laptop it does not require you to connect your phone, it installs the application for you downloading over the air.
Edit: Android was meant to be an accessible OS. That meant that no strings would be needed. The idea of android was to be able to create one OS that could run on multiple devices of different classes. This would mean being distributed in countries where computers where computers are not accessible. Android does not require a computer allowing it to be sold in markets where competing phone OSs do not have a chance.

How do you get music from your computer to the phone if it isn't connected ?
Stream it from the internet or do what I do and push it over your home network with adbWireless

I have unlimited data no problem for me I also use google beta and paid pandora and hardly use my own music on my phone but for people that don't have unlimited data your going to have to connect to get that music synced so is it drag and drop for this or is it some software ? connection required
Drag and drop. Android always has been and hopefully always will be. There's nothing more annoying and unnecessary than sync software.
Well I don't expect someone to try to but it is more then possible to use an Android device without connecting it to a computer at any point in its life. If you want music you can download it from a cloud storage like Amazon or Music beta.
...I think for the first month of owning my Galaxy Nexus I will not connect it to my computer at all. 10gb data in one month.
That will be cool..

The way I have my Google Music set up:
- I installed the Google Music software on to my computer and have it configured to sync all my music
- I have iTunes so when I download new music it syncs automatically with Google Music.
Sorry, still no connection required
P.S. If you don't have iTunes, Google Music will sync with specific folders on your computer.

How does this not require a connection?
The Google Music Beta software syncs music on your computer to the cloud, you'll still need to use bandwidth on your phone to get the music from the cloud to the phone. Unless you drag and drop your iTunes music folder to the phone, or use yet another piece of software to sync music from iTunes to your phone.

Not sure what you mean...
1) Android phones don't use or need syncing software. You just USB mass storage and drag-n-drop files into the phone
2) if it did come with software, how would we EVER know? The phone doesn't exist in the wild yet...

yeah I use bandwidth by streaming using the Google Music app. By Connection I thought he was talking about a physical connection (USB).

Okay, so this is my situation. I just moved houses as I'm starting university and I am not going to have Broadband for at least a month because of house line problems. I thought I was going to be just fine because I have an All-You-Can-Eat data plan that allows me to tether and download as much as I want, no restrictions. That was until I dropped my Nexus face-down on the street and the screen is now completely smashed. So basically I am stranded in a new town with no friends, no internet and no phone. Luckily, I have the phone insured against accidental damage, so my provider will fix it free of charge, but it will take one week before I can even send it, and another ten days after that before I can even begin to expect it back. I bought a USB Mobile internet dongle and that's what I'm using to write this, but it is desperately slow and it loses connection often... And Pandaria goes out in three days so I'm at my wit's end right now. I'm on the verge of buying a relatively affordable BlackBerry just so I can use my SIM in it and tether, but would rather not.
My Galaxy Nexus is rooted, and is running Jelly Bean. I can tell the phone does turn on because I can receive calls (and answer them using the headphones' button).
My question is if it is possible to set up tethering via a PC Desktop Software. I draw the comparison to RIM's BlackBerry Desktop Software which allows enabling of mobile internet modem capabilities by only connecting the BlackBerry via USB and clicking a button. Absolutely no need of touching the phone. Because the way I see it, it *should* be theoretically possible to edit the phone's settings values SOMEHOW by having access to it from a PC via a data cable, just as in Windows one can edit a registry key instead of enabling an option in Control Panel. Granted, it is a more complicated, archaic method, but the alternative exists.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
That's a harsh situation you are in. I don't think there is a way to tether like that. Although I'm not very sure. I don't tether much.
I use my Note for studies and have gotten rid of all paper and almost all books. I'm thinking of buying a Note 12.2 in addition to my 10.1. I could read something on the one and take notes on the other tablet.
I would like to have both synced up, so it doesn't feel like I have two devices and I have to manually transfer files all the time. All apps and settings, all files should sync preferably via bluetooth or a usb cable. So basically I would like both devices to be the same at any given time. I kinda want to have the feeling of having multiple monitors on a desktop pc. If you could move app windows between two devices that would be the best.
Datasync seems like it could do what I need.
Does anyone have experience using multiple devices? Is it a good idea? That is double the cost when it comes to upgrading, I'm not quite sure yet if it's worth it.

I have had great success with Dropsync.... syncs between my various android devices. Uses regular dropbox account.
EXCEPT that last night my Note 10.1 upgraded to Kitkat and since then it will not establish a sync. It recognizes the device folder, but cannot load folders from dropbox. I'm stumped. Tried a lot of things and finally have an e-mail into the developer.

Would like to resurrect this thread without starting a new one. Maybe I am not searching for the answer correctly.
I am having an issue getting my S Notes to sync between my Note 3 and the 10.1. I can make edits ok and choose to sync with Evernote but the changes do not replicate on the other device. The problem occurs both ways.
I know I don't use S Note as heavily as some but it is a very handy app. Just want to be able to use both devices with somewhat of a real time sync.
Any ideas out there?
You need dropsync.

Hi all,
I have a weird requirement.
I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 4.
1. I installed gotomypc app and gotomypc software on my laptop and I can browse my laptop when I'm outside.
Similarly, is there any app, which I can install on my Verizon Galaxy Note 4 and remote control my another Verizon Galaxy S5 Phone in my home?
The point is I want to just do everything, like I do when I connect via gotomypc software to my laptop.
I don't mind paying monthly fee for this app, if there is a subscription fees. Just like for gotomypc, I pay $9.95/ Month.
Thank You for Your suggestions.
I don't quite understand you. Are you wanting to control a smartphone from another smartphone, or are you wanting to control your PC from a smartphone?
I haven't used GoToMyPC in maybe 8 years or so. I eventually discovered TeamViewer. Basically, you can set up an account, install TeamViewer on any PC you want, sign into that account with each computer you want to control. Then from a smartphone (presumably Galaxy Note 4 but any supporting Smartphone will do), download the TeamViewer app where you can sign into your account and have access to any PC on that account. I don't think there's a way within TeamViewer to control another Smartphone, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why they do not have that sort of functionality, yet.
I don't think there's a way for TeamViewer to "Wake" a computer (In otherwords, no Wake-on-LAN support). There's another app I use called Wol Wake on Lan Wan for that. You just got to know how to configure your router and your PC's firewall, manually to support that, but nowadays if you just Google most things, there's more than likely an existing support thread.
I second teamviewer .. But never tried to use it one phone to another. I just use Bluetooth file transfer for file transfers when im out about otherwise i connect things and transfer stuff.
