Network compatibility ? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hi, I'm going to buy Xperia Ion and have a question.
Assuming the one I buy is from At&t
Can I unlock and use the Ion on T-mobile network ?
What speed will it able to perform on t-mobile ? 2G / 3G / 4G (H+) ? [I hear people say that flashing radio will get it work on 3G]
Hope to get the answer soon.
:fingers-crossed:

Dude - Read man.

Some have had luck with buying the SIM unlock code, some have not.
Att will not unlock SIM on Ion, as of now.

Appearently not - Have you look at wiki thread clearly state what included in Ion, and there is a huge discussion about sim unlock for ion att so ....

Jelly Bean Update for the ION

Sony has announced that the Xperia ION will be updated to Jelly Bean in Q1 of 2013!

.. Ion still an unknown, hopefully by then we can unclock bootloader for custom rom or port from those official update.

I'm banking on summer 2013. The first round in Q1 are the new phones that just came out, second round at some undefined time shortly after that included the international ion. No word on any of the ATT phones. I'm betting we'll get it, but like in July.

What do you mean "Ion still an unknown"? That article says,
"Next up, we can confirm the global versions of Xperia S, Xperia acro S, Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia J will be upgraded to Android 4.1* – we will be back with detailed timings for these in due course."

Don't hold your breath for AT&T to release the update. So far it sounds like they don't plan on releasing JB for the ion. At least we can run the international version.

I meant time frame is an unknown - Spec is right - ATT doesn't seem like they care much about Ion, so getting update is far beyond the thinkable. I am too don't like ATT fw, so happy with any other options

Interesting but with rogers I would hold your breath on aswell. They took 5 months extra for the arc to get ics.

I still can't believe att ion saw ics really. A bit surprising to me especially taking into account what little interest they've shown with the device so far. Or Sony in general for that matter. There all about Samsung & HTC, Sony tends to fall through the cracks.
They could at least allow us to unlock the damn bootloader though, but I'm not holding my breath on that either.
X10a suffered same fate however most of us were eventually able to unlock BL. There were still certain serial #'s that remained unlockable, mine was one of the lucky one's. Don't get your hopes up.

Yes just like we have been able to do now with the ICS international. The LT28i is the same phone as the LT28at

[Q] Xperia Ion question

I want to buy a cheap xperia ion from ebay(at&t version), I live abroad, and I've found alot of cheap xperia ion's there...
Can I buy at&t xperia ion(LT28at) and unlock it? because I've found alot of sellers on ebay which they claim that they will give me unlock code to unlock it...
Or can I unlock it by myself using: (rooting, unlocking bootloader or anything like that)
BTW I'm experienced in rooting and stuffs...
Thank you all!

Bootloader will be locked and you can't unlock it. You can get unlock codes so you can use it on other networks though.

Thank you so much!
Another thing, Can I get rid of at&t applications? And do I get updates on the system via internet?
Can I install any custom roms on it?

You can install roms that are based on the stock kernel only. You can root it to remove at&t apps without issue.

Check the wiki (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Sony_Xperia_ion) to see if your networks works with any of the bands that the phone does.

How's the support?

Hi, I'm currently using Lg g2x as my daily phone and I'm thinking of changing my phone to xperia ion or htc one s.
My g2x lacks driver support and it is near impossible for me to get an ICS/JB update...
I skimmed through threads and it seems like Wind mobile's Xperia Ion can't get custom roms?
can somebody confirm that for me please? thank you
and how are the support from sony and developers for this phone?
thank you
Odp: How's the support?
If you want custom roms you should buy Xperia S. There is a lot of roms and mods for this great phone.

Xperia S is a good phone (performance) but just read around this phone's section for some bricking incidents. It has been happening without any particular cause to many users. Some manage to recover after looong time (maybe even a week) and some unfortunate guys like me are stuck with a dead brick. Sony claims that I had a hard brick (needs motherboard replacement) but I had done nothing except wiping data in CWM. I don't think that you should buy this phone at all. Just go for any other phone.
Well if you plan to buy Xperia ion,buy either LT28i or LT28h that have bootloader unlock allowed : Yes
And then install your fav custom Rom and kernel

[Q] will this phone work in nz

Hey guys, just wondering if this phone will work in New Zealand on 2Degrees(Vodafone)? Looking to buy it from eBay as it's like $200 cheaper than the shops here.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DOCOMO-Sony...1099599778?pt=Cell_Phones&hash=item1c32193fa2
Specifically that one ^^, they mention something about DoCoMo and making sure it will work in your country before buying....
You guys are always awesome, thanks for any help you can provide, my wife would be very happy with me if she got this and could finally replace her HTC Tattoo!.
It's already Unlocked Bootloader, isn't it ?? If yes, you won't have bravia engine

I just wanted to know if this phone will work on Vodafone in NZ, am I correct in understanding that if the carrier is unlocked, then it will work on any network?
Not sure why you are mentioning the bootloader and bravia engine....
I'm Currently using an XSL in New Zealand on Vodafone perfectly fine See of no reason why the Acro would be any different.

You need to make sure that the bootloader is unlockable on the phone before you get it if you want to flash custom kernels and CM based roms.
Some models of the ZL are unlockable, some aren't.
Do your research before you buy, or you'll end up with a locked bootloader one like me
Thanks for the reply is it based on model number or does it depend on your carrier? I'm getting it from rogers in canada

Your bootloader will be locked. It depends on carrier.
Thought it might be rogers sucks. Is there any other way to unlock it like how the xperia arc could be unlocked using test points and a program

That's because your phone came already unlockable bootloader. You didnt change it from No to Yes. Some phones have it say No and it is still possible, it just give incorrect information. But most Rogers Sony phones you cannot unlock the bootloader.
