Hi all,
I have HTC Desire running ICS, after running out of battery and connecting the phone to the PC to charge, my phone didn't restarted and stayed stuck in the boot animation.
Now I can't format the sdcard through the PC or in Clockwork, I can't read it or mount when connected to the PC sdcard reader, but the sdcard mounts and the files I had are still accessible through Clockwork Recovery.
It's the second time and second sd card in which this happens.
Any ideas how fix the sd-card?
Thx
Do you have an ext partition on your SD Card? You might want to repartition the SD Card using Gparted this time.
I second that. Put your micro sd into an adapter and format it right on the PC. That's the only way you can be sure about the working state of your SD. In case you're not a Linux user, you can boot a live linux with gparted pre-installed, eg. gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php (official live cd/usb) or most other Live Linux distros (google for Universal-USB-Installer and install Linux Mint).

I’ve recently upgraded the SD card in my desire to a 16GB class 4 and its giving me some major issues! I’m running OpenDesire 4.0.1 and the sequence of events was as follows:
1. Inserted new SD card and formatted with gParted: 512MB Ext3 and the rest FAT32 (Ext3 partition was at the end – hope that’s correct!)
2. Rebooted fine and all the apps stored on the internal memory were present and correct. Those that I had moved to the old SD card were missing so I uninstalled them.
3. Tried to install Estrongs file manager from appbrain using the fast web installer function. This downloaded OK but the phone rebooted during installation. Tried again but same thing occurred again.
4. Tried plugging phone into PC. USB debugging mode started up fine but I wasn’t offered the option of mounting the SD card
5. Unplugged USB and inspected phone storage menu to find that no SD card was mounted
6. Rebooted a few times, removed and reinstalled SD card etc – still no SD card detected by the phone
7. Booted into recovery, connect phone to PC and used the “mount USB” option in Clockwork mod. This was successful and allowed me to inspect my SD card on the PC. Noticed that Dalvik cache and some apps (those not included as part of the ROM) were present on the SD card (FAT32 partition) – OpenDesire must have moved them there automatically (but why to the FAT32 partition and not Ext3?).
8. Rebooted phone out of recovery to check that those apps that appeared on the SD card were accessible in Android. Found that they were, which is strange given that the SD card was still not being detected by the system.
9. Decided to mount SD card again via clockwork recovery method and formatted the FAT32 partition with gParted.
10. Rebooted phone and found SD card still not detected and all those apps that had magically been moved to the SD card by OpenDesire were (unsurprisingly) gone.
11. Tried a few adb commands that I found in another thread but didn’t seem to have any effect.
Out of ideas – can anyone help?! Will try old SD card tonight and see what happens, but I don’t think there is a problem with the new card since I managed to successfully mount it through clockwork. I’m also wondering why the apps were moved to the FAT32 partition instead of Ext3? I thought that’s what the Ext3 partition was for?
Cheers
The FAT32 partition must be the first partition on your SD card, and it seems from what you've said that you created the EXT partition first.
Regards,
Dave
no the the FAT32 was first then the Ext3
OK fixed. Managed to mount the SD card on the PC via clockworkmod, deleted all partitions and rebooted phone. Phone detected SD card and asked me to format it. Did that and then added a ext partition using gParted.
SD Card Cant be Detected on Desire(Solved)
Hiii... guys.. even i went through the same problem.. and tried formatting using Linux,Windows.. but nothing happpnd... as a final trial i tried it to factory reset(i.e., SD CARD).. by using hp usb disk storage format tool ...... and it was successful...
As for now just google the Software
Good LUCK!
OK, so my Desire was working ok, but I decided it was time for a clear out, and a fresh partition of my SD Card, along with a move to Firerat's script for A2SD.
I booted my computer into Ubuntu and made a backup of my SD Card - no problems there. However, I noticed that the EXT partition had not mounted in Ubuntu, so I figured that it must be to do with being booted into Android, and so I booted into Recovery and mounted SD card there - same problem.
It was not until I physically put my SD card into a card reader and inserted it into my laptop, could I access the EXT partition. So I went ahead and copied my EXT partition, no probs.
I then (for some reason) decided to put my SD card back into my phone, mount SD Card in Ubuntu and try and re-partition the SD card in GParted. It kept, however giving me an error message when I tried to partition the card. GParted crashed and would not restart until I re-booted the system. The same thing happened after a reboot.
I had to go into Windows and format the Card as FAT32, and then remove the card from the phone, put it in the card reader, reboot into Ubuntu and then partition the card via GParted.
Now, I have a 6Gb FAT32 partition and a 1GB EXT2 partition on my SD Card and all is (kinda) working swimmingly. Still when I access my SD card (via USB cable, and HTC Desire) in Ubuntu, the EXT partition does not mount (it DEFINITELY used to), and when I view it in GParted it shows the entire disk as "unallocated"?
Is my phone somehow "corrupting" my SD card partition tables? The phone seems to read it ok?
Any ideas would be welcome?
Thanks
Stu

Hi can any one help i tried to install the desire hd rom, the instructions suggested partitioning sd card before installing the rom
which i tried to do using Mini tool partition wizard unfortunetly after wiping partition and the creating new partion my sd card would not mount as i wasnt sure if i should have formated the sd card at this point as that option was still available. but the instructions didnt mention wether i should have formated after creating new partition.
So anyway to cut a long story short i switched the phone of instead, hoping that when i restarted it i would be able to mount the sd card. But now i had a new problem my phone now would not detect my sd card altogether
Does any one know how i can make my sd card detectable again or will i need to fork out for a new sd card
Have you tried it in another device, say a PC card reader?
Had the same issue. Everything worked fine after formatting the SD card with Gparted. What I did wrong is that I made 3 EXT4 partitions for Data2SD and the computer didn't recognize the card. Used Recovery to mount the card and Gparted to repartition it. Everything worked fine afterwards.
yes sort of tried my friends sd card in my desire and it detected it so its definetly the my sd card that faulty
thanks for replying to my message i tried mounting the sd card in recovery using recovery manager but my phone wont mount it as it not detecting the sdcard do you think i might have better luck with gparted and if so do you have a link where i might be abe to down load it.
Good day all,
I am using a DHD
ROOTED
S-OFF, ENG-OFF
Clorkworkmod V5
Custom ROM: LeeDroid
Can i format my memory stick through my phone itself?
Will clockworkmod gets deleted through the process?
One of my bad past experience is when i formated the memory stick using a PC and when i put the stick back into the DHD, the phone refuse to boot. So can i assume it will be safe to reformat the SD card on the phone instead?
I've always done it by mounting the SD card when plugged via USB. Right click the removable disk and format. Always worked for me.
clockwork is on your phone Memory you cannot deleted by formatting your SD card
I already have, root, s-off and tried some roms.
Unfortunately, I redid the partitions but bad and the phone continues to freeze,
to fix them I connect the sd to the computer with the recovery, and then i start gpartedlive, but I can not see the partitions ext, I only see fat32, so I can not fix them, how do I bring back as if sd new?
I need the adapter, or connect it via the recovery goes well?
i'm sorry for my really bad english LoL

You need adapter connecting via recovery only mounts the fat32 partition

Turn off your phone and remove the back panel, battery, and slide out your SD card.
Use a USB->microSD adapter/card reader to connect it to your computer, as connecting the phone in recovery will still only mount the FAT32 partition. Boot gParted.
You should now be able to mount both partitions. I recommend using the LiveCD to copy files from the ext and FAT32 partitions to a backup location on your computer or another drive, before wiping the SD card and recreating the partition structure in gParted. Then you can copy the files back on to the SD card with the new partition structure without data loss.
thank you so much, i'm going to buy an adapter
Or if you're not worried about data loss on all partitions ie ext partition, then you could copy files from fat partition to computer then use 4ext recovery to partition the card
