So, I was all excited to get a Note 2, but then I heard about CyanogenMod being unlikely to support new Exynos devices: http://codeworkx.de/wordpress/
So with that in mind... does anyone have a competing phablet to suggest?
Nothing going on in the stickied thread for whose gonna develop for it. Any ideas?

That seems awfully silly to drop such an anticipated world wide device. Maybe he can't meat the demand of both SG3, and Note 2?

We are still waiting for us release date to even be announced so some devs may not even be that worried about notifying me until they get to see the device hands on.

You do know that codeworkx isn't the only developer for CyanogenMod or for Samsung devices. Him dropping support for Exynos devices isn't the end of the world. So what if he left, that's his personal choice & I understand why & completely support him but not everyone shares his views of dropping support for Exynos devices because devices like the S & Note series are very popular & its just a matter of time before some developer get his hand on the device & CyanogenMod will be developed for it. This is just needless panic.

The HTC One X5 looks good, but no clue on when it'll come out...
And yes #illidan, I realise that another developer may step up, and I do hope that happens. But from the sounds of things, it's not just codeworkx that is dropping Samsung support:
Entropy512 said:
Not likely to happen. If CM comes to the Note 2, it will only be if a new maintainer steps up.
Most of the current Exynos maintainer team (myself, espenfjo, codeworkx) and others have all decided that our current devices will be our last non-Nexus Exynos devices. I'm not sure about xplodwild, but I have a feeling he's highly unlikely to take up another Haxxinos with the rest of us gone and given his prior experiences with it.
If Samsung changes their attitude towards developers, this might change, but their attitude lately (zero documentation, zero platform source code, a trend towards bootloader locking - Only the Verizon S3 has a locked bootloader now, but Samsung has had the infrastructure in place since the S2 and they are constantly adding more checks) has led to the current Exynos maintainer team deciding that enough is enough. I don't think any of us are going to do anything to make Samsung's Exynos devices more attractive to any particular market segment until they provide assistance (in the form of technical documentation and source code) in return. I don't know about the others, but if they offer me a free device I'll say no - I refuse to participate in a PR stunt like the I9100 donations were.
Pretty much the only way I'll go back is if I see reference platform source that is up to the same standards as CAF and omapzoom, or they actually start providing real documentation and source code for the devices I'm currently working with.

Yes I'm well aware of the entire so called Exynos development team giving up because of Samsung's retarded ways but as of now I believe it's a 50-50 gamble for device support. Maybe a new maintainer steps up to the batting plate or an old one does (highly unlikely). It's basically up to you & seeing as the Note is the only choice for now if your looking for a phablet. I still believe that the device will receive support.

A popular device like the Note II will surely get CM. But a point worth considering is the lack of help being provided by Samsung regarding the Exynos processor. So, in the future , development may slow down or there may be loss of particular functionality due to the lack of code or compatible blobs from Samsung for the Exynos.
Of course, there are many talented devs that gonna work on the Note II, but the Team Hacksung not supporting this is definitely a big blow, as they have shown the awesome work they can do with Samsung devices as well as the fact that they have tremendous experience on Samsung devices.
Hrm, this may not be concerning for the veteran android user, but as I plan(ned?) this to be my first android device, it makes me wonder if I should wait and see if there is support for it. I can't a stock anything, let a lone a phone. And unfortunatly this is the only android device I'm really looking forward to.
I've heard some chit chatter as well, as far as development / support not going to be strong but its not going to sway me from buying this phone.. It's still going to be awesome.. Even if its just stock rooted to get rid of system things you don't need

I would assume so, but not sure. Personally, I won't stray away from a stock base. I want those features touted by Samsung. That's why I'm upgrading.
I'm not sure however, how well CM10 runs on the SGS3...and according to what I've read, its not a very good port.

You can check on sensation thread, arco's on sensation is bruce2728, cm 10 is 99% already perfect, redvilzz and i are using the same phone now and moved from wonder. And from those cm trees, came jellybam,pa,miui, aosp, aokp. Yet,i still having my wonder here, but for better attention, they have it on sensation
Really having hardtime for rooting,s-offing,bootlocker,but when your done, you can do whatever you want from touchrecovery, even flashing stockrom
sent from my LegenDroid ?
True as dolly said, and thanks to his help for guiding me on choosing rom, kernel, rooting and etc. to you mate. Anyway It is an awesome phone in the upper hand of wonder. Why i didn't choose s2 because the price is around 2 times expensive CMIIW then the sensation xe. Sensation XE is only around 1,2 / 1,3 times expensive and the specs is 'almost' like s2 only very different from the screen which is not AMOLED
And about the difficulty of rooting there are a lot to do to gain the ability to flash custom rom on this 'baby'
You need to unlock bootloader, root, s-off and etc.
It is all explained in the thread. FYI after what i've been through the S-Offing way is the most difficult one for me, but after you succeeded it's smooth sailing to change all rom.
And also there are many great and good dev there like arco's which is our man . Cheers to arco
Sensation thread is in xda, just search for htc sensation. The thread is a combined version with the sensation, sensation 4g, and sensation xe, almost all the roms are compatible with every variant of sensation.
For sony yes it is cheap and have more power but almost all low prices phone that i checked didn't have external capabilities and i know yes they are better from our wonder with a little cheaper prize but yeah no external sd card capabilities? That's a pain
Try googling and look on the specs man it will amaze you with the affordable price

wonder is enough and best for me with CM9. i dont play games so why i buy more expensive money.
Actually I want to buy Galaxy Nexus, but.. it's officially wiped out from the list in the Indonesian phonespace.
So I'll have to wait for the next Samsung's newest flagship Android.
as for me, i believe in rumors about new samsung nexus with android 5.0 onboard..
if it becomes not larger than 4.5" and gets nice design (w\o that s***ty pseudo-chrome around) for example comparable with our wonder, i'd make my best to get it)
A nexus of course..
This is a difficult question...
Samsung? Well, they have lately been... 'less friendly' to the dev community, to the point that Team Hacksung has declared that they will end activities on Samsung phones.
HTC? They are openly hostile to the dev community, what with the locked bootloader, unlock limits, etc. etc. etc. Not to mention that their sales are declining fast.
Motorola? Same as HTC. Although, with a new owner (the mighty GOOG himself) situation *may* change.
Nexus? No SD Card slot, 'nuff said.
That leaves only Sony, which XDA Portal itself has commended to be the most dev-friendly brand. They even provide an official bootloader unlocking page, with a helpful link to the proper forum in XDA!
So, my next phone would very likely be a Sony.
Which model? Not sure yet... I'll cross the bridge when it's time to, and not sooner (in other words, we'll see what models are available in the next 6-9 months).

Hi,
I am a fully satisfied Galaxy Wonder I8150 user, however - since I found an offer for the Galaxy S Advance I9070 for about 200€ - I am thinking about changing my phone.
Is there anyone who also has the I9070 and can give me any suggestion?
I am a bit worried about development: since our beloved I8150 is much more widespread, there's a lot more here than for the I9070, but it's just probably a matter of time... hopefully!
Opinions and discussions are more than welcome, thank you very much.
I have a friend who uses I9010. Although it is good from spec, and bigger screen.. But well, XDA has only few devs. Seems it is a bit minus points since many of 'em were stock-modded.
€200 off-contract? Cheap..

Re the price: 200€ off-contract, yes.
I've been watching this phone since last year and the best offers I found were 250€ at the end of November 2012, 230€ now in most of the shops. A local supermarket is going to sell it for 200€ in the next days.
So the price doesn't go down fast, but slowly it does!

Many of those ROMs were not pure AOSP/CM-based and just stock, with some mods/changes, so maybe you may expect 'bloatwares', including that useless apps etc. Well there is actually CM10.1 but it is not that reliable since mostly it is for hi-level devs (as you can see there are many bugs there including the Phone.apk (that is for the calls) so it is impossible to make calls), the BT, the Wi-Fi if I'm not mistaken. But well if you can stand that it's yours.
Also, I think the newest S4 will fit. Well its announcement is still on March 14th (15th GMT+7, if it is announced at evening in NY). And I don't think if the price would be another 200 Euros off-contract.
Again, it is your privilege to buy a new phone and leave the other. So, choose it wisely.
Maybe you can post this question to the S Advance forum so that the user of that phone can share their experience with you

with the JB update, the phone is really smooth even without any custom rom or tweak.
But the only big problem is there is not much special tweaks and custom rom available for S advance. So when you are bored of stock S advance, there's nothing you can do unlike our lovely W with so many awesome devs.
Both phones have their own pros and cons. It's up to you.

Surely Wonder has a lot more mods, roms, etc. available.
However, I also had a chance to try the S Advance and I must say it's much more comfortable just for the slightly bigger screen. The keyboard is easier, and the GPS works perfectly in Advance whereas in my Wonder takes ages to get the fix or loses it every minute....
All in all, if I had to buy a new phone, between the 2 I'd go for the Advance I think.

we got our own section in xda
there are hundreds of devices that are waiting to get rooted after years
micromax a110 have many roms cause all Chinese phones are almost same, where roms are easy to port
but for grand devs have to make too many changes work harder, even when porting s2 rom like cm10.x
so be happy with happy with what you get rather regretting for nothing

My Qualcomm based LGP500 had lots of development and is still getting CM10.1 Jenkins builds which have almost everything except a2dp fixed

Best phone
galaxy grand is the premium segment phone supporting all the features of android. other phones like micromax or other china based phones did not support various sensors and supports only basic 2-3 sensors such as light sensor and proximity sensor.
i have used other android based devices of non branded companies. even also samsung s duos irritate me some times when it works slow or get hanged.
so far there is no single issue in galaxy grand to irritate.
it is enough for me to root the phone as 4.1.2 (currently using 4.2.2) is much stable and sufficient amount of ram is free for user.
Its a new phone ... give some tym for development ...

u heard it right they have rolled out Jb Android 4.3 (JWR66V) for nexus 4 and other for nexus 7,10 etc
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
so as far samsung is concerned it will take atleast 3 months from now if we are lucky or maybe even end of this year but yes the good news is that samsung has confirmed the 4.3 update for note2 but have not commented anything on the release date yet
There are already many many threads for same subject and I think they will be adding up

There is an update and other devices thread in the stickies.
Instead of making a dozen threads just post in that thread.

All we know is Q4 2013

Based on Samsung's past update speed and the lower than expected S4 sales, I am betting on before Q4 2014

How come nexus devices get updates 1st?

Because Nexus devices are devices that are made by Google's standards and android is developed for this devices by Google themselves. Then with the android source code (AOSP) manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, Sony etc etc. are free to make their own rom for it, this is why it will always follow later, especially 'cause they have to make sure it is completely bugfree. Next to the big manufacturers we have ofcourse developers like CyanogenMod team and other good developers (i.e. from XDA!) who provide us from great roms too, and some even better than the stock samsung roms.

Will people stop talking about the s4 sales. They just posted they made over 6.6 billion which is up from last year.
So they didn't sell as many as they wanted. Well the s3 is still an awesome phone so why would everyone just to an s4

My cat has more intelligence than the people who keep starting these threads. How they scrape up the IQ to actually purchase a mobile phone in the first place amazes me.
Samsung is directly monitoring the Note II General forums, and they delay in a couple of weeks the launch every time someone starts a topic about it.
Thanks, OP. I hope Santa Claus remembers your deeds today.

i am not here to whine about the thread, but i got some good news.
i am building cm10.2 for n7100 and if it boots, i will upload it.
it is not touchwiz ofcourse (so it ain't crap) and is equivalent to cm10.1 with 4.3

"Crap" is relative. One could call CM10.x crap for the Note 2, as it doesn't have the S-Pen features, leaving the device rather crippled compared to TW.

No, TW compared to CM actually is crap. CM S Pen Add-on, Note Buddy and Papyrus and S Pen features (incl. Pulling in or out detection) work perfectly.
definitely by the time samsung releases official 4.3 there will be 4 to 5 more threads on the same topic for sure
By the time Sammy is almost ready to release 4.3, Key Lime Pie 5.0 will be out and they will then decide to skip 4.3 for Note II and go directly to 5.0.
I am having issues building cm.
I just know how to initiate a build , I don't know how to fix because I don't know any programming language.
