Auto update seems to only work on wifi and I reboot my phone every other day so I don't really find this a problem.
I hate to troll but...
FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS
This may be caused by you closing the process of the play store witch in turn it can't detect updates available. Also you can go onto play - menu - my apps - one click update.

Yeah that's what i end up doing, kinda defeats the purpose of auto-update. Thanks.
and @amosconf, since the majority of the posts here relate to people playing around with their portable computers, we can all agree that this website is dedicated to first-world problems.

You need to root the phone so that you can download the play store apk and install as normal or push it through rootexplorer.

ICS could be around the corner as well as long time away, its arrival is simply unknown for this particular phone. My recommendation is to root and whenever ICS drops, if it ever does, revert back to stock and update to ICS. Even then, its typically only a matter of hours/days before someone makes a rooted stock ICS rom from leak or source so either way you wont be kept long from tasting ICS.

Hey guys. I want you guys to check this out. See the attachment. I know that Sony declined ICS update for Xperia Play. I noticed something today. When I connected my R800i to the PC after a long time. It says that there is a new update. When I connect my device to the updater, it says the current version is v3.0.1A.0.145 although it's actually v2.3.3 and the new update is v4.0.2.A.0.42; which is ICS.

noooo this is the system version not the android version i belive that v4.0.2.A.0.42 is android 2.3.4 as sony said that they are not updating the play to ICS because of the poor gaming support on ICS.... soooooo in short that is just a gingerbread update

I only wanted to do a Factory Reset. But my phone doesn't allow it. When I press Erase All, nothing happens. Also, when I tick "Format SD card", it formats the SD card, but no data is removed from phone memory. :S
I updated my Xperia S to JB with PCC.
I thought it would be a smooth experience, but all hell broke loose after the update finished.
1. Walkman does not work. It crashes all the time and always gives me the error "Unfortunately, WALKMAN has stopped working"
2. The album app cannot detect any of my photos stored in my device. Same goes for Ringtone picker. I have tried clearing Media Storage (It always worked for me in ICS) but it simply refuses to rebuild the Media Storage.
3. I cannot connect it to my PC at all. PCC keeps reporting an error and any of their proposed solutions do not work. When I try taking a screenshot, it says "Unable to capture screenshot, internal storage may be in use". Did the update screw up my internal storage?
I am now trying to flash it back to .55 FW. After first successful flash, it is stuck in a bootloop, crashing on the XPERIA logo. So now I am trying to reflash it again. However, I keep getting weird stuff like "Flash Aborted" or "Flash Cancelled" by Flashtool for no reason.
What should I do?

Before you hard brick your phone. Read this carefully.
You probably updated your phone to JB without resetting data/factory reset that is why you're facing force closes, lags etc. Now you should download SUS as you have effed up your phone, from here. Then follow the on-screen instructions CAREFULLY and you'll get your phone back, working with no lag/force closes whatsoever.

I find it odd that Sony didn't mention anything about resetting phone when updating via PCC.
Thanks for your help though. I managed to get it to stop bootlooping and flashed a ftf to completely wipe everything - there goes all my messages.......
Now I'm able to at least boot into .55. Should I update to JB now since it's on a totally clean slate and hopefully prevent any other unexpected stuff from happening?

Well, i'm downloading jelly bean now due to its high antutu score, which basically means more performance. When i updated from Sony Update Service, it asked me if i wanted to just update, or wanted to update with a clean install.

I see. So SUS is a more reliable option I guess.
On another note, managed to update to JB and issues are resolved. Only sad part is a ton of my past apps have about 8gb of SD data on my SD card but they aren't installed -.-"
Time to manually reinstall them.....

I update my phone via Sony update service and now my Google Play Store doesn't work any longer.
I did factory reset, flashed back to ICS and it is same thing, and all google apps like say that it can't reach server.
Did restore phone couple of times but no luck.
Any suggestions?

Possible Solution : CLEAN RE-FLASH
The New Update downloads and optimizes a few apps at start up from phone.
You will find new small apps google updates for 4.1.2 and also new chrome browser.
If you are facing the problem.
Reason is 4.1.2 Google Apps might not be compatible with ICS and vice verse.
What you can do now.
Reset Your Phone.
Check if the phone shows "Optimizing Apps" After Flashing from SONY Official Software..
If not! Flash Again With A Clean Whip.
If You are on rooted and unlocked phone and with recovery : Flash Gapps compatible with your device.
I hope this information helps you.
Reply back if there is a progress.

Just found out that my router had DNS settings that change location for Netflix, and my phone was freaked out.
Now router is on default settings and everything works.
Not sure why XS was fine with it when it was on ICS.
Thanks for reply.
Best part of update is when connected to my car stereo via BT, songs information shows!!!!
I just could guess that even my SE MW600 might work with songs ID, will check later when come back from school.
Avaliable from today? Now i installing new update

Yes, it seems to work very well. Re-rooted with Nexus Root Toolkit v1.8.3. Just had to re-enable usb debigging first. The toolkit even updated itself with KTU84L binary (4.4.3 for Nexus2013).
I just updated mine, nothing different though, I guess its only bugs fix

Hi guys, so I got the notification about the update, but I forgot I had to have the stock recovery to install it, and I pressed the install update, it locked my bootloader, but didn't update to 4.4.3, now if I go to system update, press check for updates, it say I'm on latest update. What should I do now?

Boot into twrp, and flash it manually, you'll find the ota zip in /cache.
Unless you are serious/correct about it locking your bootloader, which I never heard of an update doing, then you got a different issue.
I did the same thing, but there's no update in that folder

one got it, not the other
I've two Nexus 7 2013 units. One got the update message (and it worked) but the other has not. Tried checking for updates on it and it says it's up to date (running 4.4.2). No biggie, just curious that one got it but not the other.
Still haven't rooted either of them yet.

Nothing to be curious about, it's just the way they roll it out.

Agreed, blanket dumping of data certainly has it's place. I wasn't sure this was one of them. That and I'm honestly ot in any kind of rush to force updates. Still, it's been a few days and the one tablet is still not showing 4.4.3 as available yet. Both are logged into the same google account. No rush, my to-do list has PLENTY of other things on it...
Hey fellas,
I just received KITKAT OTA for my ZL.
But I am not sure if I am going to update my ZL, fearing few sudden death of phone after updating to kitkat ( I am stating this based on a thread i bumped into on sonys blog) and well known issues of battery drain and glitchy notification and setting menu.
Hope you guys going to receive it soon
cheers!!

Usually for installing an CWM recovery, your bootloader should be unlocked first. But if you are sure that you have a locked bootloader ,my suggestion is to do a fresh FTF flashing via flashtool .Hope it helps.
FTF,I want it~~~
it's a disappointment
There are lags all over the place with the latest kitkat release.
1) Home screen lag gone after switching to a static wallpaper.
2) Settings lags like hell
3) RAM consumption increased
4) For some reason i could not cut/copy/paste using ES File Explorer. But it worked using the built in file commander app.
The only good thing i noticed is the overheat control service now runs 100 % of the time thereby not heating the phone as much as it used to on 4.3
hold out on updating for now as xperia blog reports that there is a bug fix coming, build #233. Hopefully that will resolve the issues.

.233 isnt a bug fix update. It's a carrier specific update and has already rolled out to xperia z. And i updated to. 230 yesterday and made a factory reset. Surprisingly no lags anywhere. Settings menu doesnt lag. But scrolling effect is not as smooth as in 4.3. You can edit Settings.apk and fix it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-zl/general/kitkat-10-5-0-230-lag-free-settings-menu-t2803366). That copy/paste thing, sony has nothing to do with. It's google. You can root and fix it. And i agree with you about over heating. The phone heats less compared to 4.3. And guys overall the update is fine.
I have updated to kitkat(..230) OTA. It is smooth as butter. No settings menu lag.Although i find battery performance not at par with ...101. But it is not so bad.
Updated to Kitkat using SUS.
Hi Guys I finally decided to give kitkat update a shot.
I Updated mine via SUS.
This is what I feel after updating .
1) If you do a clean wipe and install a "Google services 5 version" there wont be any Google services hogging up battery for sure .
2) I agree with the fact that setting menu lags while scrolling , by changing setting under developer option (using "force GPU rendering") issue was reduced to 90 percent at least .
3) I still need to monitor battery life as of now its going good.
4) There is lag in conversation and keyboard , any suggestion on how to resolve this will be appreciated fellas .
Any way to root this new ver?
Edit: This one worked for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783750
Google services 5.0 and still a occurance of battery drain ?
Hi fellas , battery backup on my ZL was great until today morning i woke up to see that it has dropped by 40% without doing nothing , and the culprit again here is Mr.Google play services.
I am not sure as to why it took almost a week for the issue to surface , but it did .
As of now i have downloaded App quarantine and disabled Google play services and battery backup is again back to normal (in fact pretty good) but, it feels like my phone is crippled with functionality
But I am still Wondering why my friends S4 running same version of KK and same version of Google play services dose not has a problem but mine does.
Whom should we blame here Google ? or Sony ?

Google play services is not at all a problem. The problem is with sony. Google play services never drained my phone's battery.
