Gmail 4.2 finally
Gmail 4.2 finally has pinch-to-zoom and new swipe-to-archive/delete feature,
-Download Gmail 4.2 from the download link above
-Make a Nandroid backup in case anything goes wrong .
If these steps dont work then
- Remount /system for writing (via your favorite root-aware file explorer).
- Delete (or move if you want to save the APKs) all other versions of Gmail.
-You may need to delete the .odex files matching the APKs too
-Reboot. you should have no Gmail in your system!
-You can try to install the Gmail 4.2 APK you downloaded

Hi,
I've installed the latest Leedroid rom (3.1.3) and am having the sms issue (ie message fc's when i get a message and so i don't get notified). I have searched the forum and found that I need to to push mms.apk using ADB. Now I have used it before but for some reason I cannot get it do what I want.
Could anyone please post an idiots guide? I have already tried installing the zip using recovery but that didn't work.
Any help would be really well received as this is doing my head in!
John
Okay - managed to solve the issue:
If you have this problem then what you need to do is (thanks to hsnmz for the links and what to do)):
"well I did something and the sms problem is solved. I'll try to explain what I did
reflashed the rom via clockwork (I don't know if its necessary). booted. clear data of messaging app by going to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All and then the Messages (This does not delete the mesages). I also cleared the weather data (not sure if this is necessary, this deleted all the cities).
Then downloaded the sense 2.1 message zip posted in this thread earlier. Downloaded the mms.apk posted by seo in this thread.
browsed inside the sense 2.1 message zip (did not extract) and deleted the mms.apk file inside the system folder. Draged and droped the seo mms.apk inside the system folder. copied the zip to sd card. booted to recovery. mount system. flashed the zip, rebooted. and now it is working perfect, all the notifications are fine. Hve not checked the mms as I never use that.
hope this helps

Download the 2 files and as hmsnz says drop the mms.apk into the zip folder, then copy zip to folder on your phone.
Reboot using recovery (I'm using latest clockwork recovery)
Scroll down to mounts and storage then choose unmount system.
Go back to main menu and choose install zip, then choose install zip from sd card (not update), then go to folder where you put zip file and then choose apply.
When it finsihed go back to mounts and storage and mount system.
Go back and reboot. Should be fixed.
UPDATE 3
--------------
Added modified GMail v3.2.1 for HC and GMail v4.0.3 for ICS based ROMs. Make sure you download the right one for your OS (GB, HC, or ICS).

Hey guys, for those of you who didn't know, the Gmail application now RESTRICTS access to your emails by third party apps. This basically means that any app that needs access to your email database (for example, Pure Messenger Widget) will be LOCKED OUT and therefore Gmail will be disabled in said application.
So I went ahead and modified the latest Gmail apk to ALLOW EXTERNAL ACCESS to re-enable support for apps that require it. Hope this helps anyone who needed it.
Install Instructions (YOU MUST BE ROOTED!)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
0) DOWNLOAD CORRECT VERSION FOR YOUR OS AND RENAME TO Gmail.apk
1) Open Root Explorer (or any other root file manager you like)
2) NAVIGATE to /data/app
3) DELETE com.google.android.gm-1.apk (it might say com.google.android.gm-2.apk for some people or it may not exist at all)
4) NAVIGATE to /system/app
5) Mount Read/Write
6) DELETE Gmail.apk
7) COPY new modified Gmail.apk into /system/app
8) CHANGE permissions to Owner = read/write, Group = read, Others = read.
---(The following may not be necessary but its HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)---
9) REBOOT into Recovery
10) Wipe Cache/Dalvik-Cache/Fix Permisions
------------------------------------------------------------------------
11) REBOOT!
NOTE: Some apps may require you to uninstall and reinstall the program before it is able to see the change in Gmail (for example, Pure Messenger Widget)
DON'T FORGET TO HIT THE THANKS BUTTON!
Let me know if anyone has any issues with these (there shouldnt be as i tested all versions myself).
I have a few apps like facebook google plus and google maps which are by default installed in XperiaS.
I am rooted stock ics. 45 build.
Can I remove or delete the applications from system/app cause any problems?
And I want to install them from playstore if I need them.
So anyone tell me which.directory does the app we install from playstore are installed so that i.can move apps from sys/app in that folder..
Yes you can and yes, you can easily uninstall/move them.
Use root explorer to move the app/apk that you not want to move from System/app to your SD Card Folder.
Just make sure not to delete or move any system apk, that is required to run the OS.
More Specific instructions by Redstarr1 below- so follow it, u shud b fine.

Click to collapse
So auni already told you you can remove apps like Facebook, G+ and Gmaps easily from /system/app. If you want the app back as a "normal" app, you can:
- copy those apps to /data/app, I'd go with one of the following options though
- copy those apps to your external storage and install them like you would any other app (so once you copied the app outside of /system, press it and a dialog will open)
- delete those apps and install them from Play Store.
Hi! I found a way to make Gallery to work flawlessly with Picasa sync in Smoothrom (should work in other roms)....
I did research but this solution posted in [APP][MOD][addon.d] Stock Gallery w/ Picasa Sync by mkilc when you try to share or edit the images the app crash or it tells you that it cant use the image.
The steps:
1) Download Stock rom, I downloaded Grouper-JDQ39_4.2.2-Deodex_Rooted-02-14-13-teshxx.zip from goo.im
2) OF COURSE Download SmoothRom (5.1 in my case)
3) Extract content of stock rom to a folder
4) Open Smoothrom using 7-zip or whatever you like
5) Go to system/app and delete Gallery2.apk
6) Find in the extracted stock files system/app/GalleryGoogle.apk and rename it to Gallery2.apk
7) Copy the renamed file into the open folder in 7-zip of Smoothrom (system/app)
8) Now you can install the ROM as you would normally do: BACKUP WIPE INSTAL ZIP......
9) DONE!! Now you can edit and share Picasa images without any problems.
I know there must be a way doing this without having to wipe and install but i did this because I needed to reinstall the rom after messing up without backup.
It should be something like this: Force Aplication shutdown, delete Gallery2.apk from system/app / copy the renamed file from the stock rom / reboot in recovery / wipe dalvik cache and reboot.... CORRECT ME IF IAM WRONG, Im not an expert....
I hope you found this usefull
Hey guys,
I have deleted by mistake the calendarprovider.apk and now I can't sync my google calendar on the phone. Can someone provide me with the apk so i can install it?
Also I have some questions because i tried to install a calendarproviderbin.apk and the installation didin't work:
1. Do the apk file answers to the Android version (4.1.2 in my case) or needs to match the phone (xperia m C1904)?
2. I still have the calendarprovider.odex in the folder, do i need to delete it to pass down the apk instalation? Or its okay there?
3. Some threads talk about opening the apk in the pc and deleting the user id or something. if this is necessary, would you please guide me through it?
---edit> build number 15.1.C.2.8
Thanks!
Here you go, here are both files from the odexed ROM.
1) Copy the files to your phone memory (either internal or SD)
2) Make sure the names of the files don't have [1] in them, if they do then delete the [1]
3) Move the files from your memory to /system/app
4) Set the permissions to 0644 (rw-r--r--)
5) Reboot
