I was thinking about flashing my GS3 over to metro pcs and I was wondering if there is a way to use their 3G and 4G LTE? sorry if this has been asked before
3g, yes... by manually programming in the correct data profiles and passwords. There are a billion and one flashing threads for more specific info on flashing devices to metropcs.. the method is pretty universal. Metro talk/text/3g is doable on just about any CDMA device.. and I can confirm 100% it will work on the Sprint GS3.
4g, no... the 4G supported in Sprint's GS3 would not be compatible with the LTE band that MetroPCS uses. Just no way around it. Until phone's start coming with multi-band LTE.. flashing phones and retaining LTE is just not an option.

So I have metro pcs service I took my evo to them and they couldnt get it working after a day. I have my evo flashed with metro droid and I followed the mms and data provisioning. When I call out with my evo all I get is it trying to connect to verizon. Nothing works at all with it. The metropcs dude gave me my MDN and MIN and SPC numbers. What do I gotta do to get it to work?
Your area uses AWS, Which is NOT CDMA Since it's quad-band, I think CDMA is only dual-band. I have the same issue with mine.
So what does that mean? My area is 89015.
I just need to add my ESN to their network now.

Okay, I'll try to explain as simply as possible. Sprint and Verizon's networks operate on the 1900MHz PCS band (so their phones are made with 1900MHz compatibility built in).
About half of MetroPCS' network also operates on the 1900MHz PCS band, BUT, (this the important part) the other half of their network operates only in the 1700MHz AWS band.
MetroPCS builds their phones with that in mind, so that their phones will operate on both the 1900MHz PCS band and the 1700MHz AWS band. However, Sprint and Verizon don't build their phone with AWS compatibility because they don't have to. They don't operate on AWS.
So if you live in an area where MetroPCS' network is 1900MHz PCS, any Sprint or Verizon phone will work. If you live in an area where MetroPCS' network is 1700MHz AWS, then the only phones that will work at MetroPCS' own phones.
Hope that clears it up for you.
EDIT: By the way, I checked your zip code and you are indeed in an AWS 1700MHz area... not 1900MHz PCS so your EVO will not work on MetroPCS. Sorry.
Where did you find out my area type?
bump I need to know if thats 100% true.
Wanting to pull the trigger over at handtec, but do you know if the Note II will work on Sprint's network here in the states? If it's 3G only that's fine as the 4g/LTE isn't in my area yet anyways. And will not be until next year in which I would just upgrade to the Note 3.
It won't work on any of Sprint's networks, 3g or otherwise. You'll need to wait for Sprint to release it themselves.
Neither will it works on Verizon network. Both Sprint and Verizon use CDMA for voice, 2G and 3G data. Since the international version of GN2 won't have the CDMA chip in it, it won't be able to use the CDMA network.
Doesn't Metro PCS use the same LTE bands that the Verizon HTC One supports? I'd like to use the One with Metro PCS but I'd like to make sure that it would work properly - especially a good data connection and from my research the Sprint HTC One wouldn't have 4G on Metro. Also I know Metro PCS will flash the phone for me to use on their network but do they gimp the web use on it so that the data usage is a bit limited? Am I wrong or should I go ahead and buy the phone outright and have it flashed over?
Nope, not possible. Verizon mainly uses 700 MHz (band 13) for LTE while MetroPCS uses AWS (band 4). Even though Verizon is testing AWS LTE in a few markets, I'm not sure if the Verizon One even supports that band.
If you want a One, why not get the T-Mobile version instead? They acquired Metro a few months back and are going to merge the two LTE networks while shutting down CDMA. Look at their coverage map now and you'll see it's an exact duplicate of T-Mobile's.
Hello, I have a Verizon phone, which I unlocked and I am using with MetroPCS sim card. Everything works except I don't have 4G. I have internet but not 4G. Some ideas how I can fix that and actually use the 4G? Thanks!

Read the post above yours. It has the answer. You cannot enable a band that the phone doesn't have in it's radio. Verizon band 13 is different than band 4.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using XDA Free mobile app
the only success ive had with flashing a Verizon phone to metro was 3g data only. i was never able to get LTE to connect and i tried everything i could think of.
The CDMA editor only let me go so far but i know you can get 3g and evdo to work on their network with some elbow grease and free time.

3G is better then E right? What is this CDMA editor that you're talking about and how does it work? What needs to be done?
Thanks in advance!
I've been reading through forum posts for literally 3 days at the office, and I'm so far no further along than I started. I'm the IT Director for a firm in Texas and we have about a dozen T217S Sprint units that were from a pawn shop. We use AT&T for data. I've tried quite a few times to get MSL codes from Sprint in various ways and these days, unless you are the account owner - they won't give it up. I would imagine most of these tablets had bills owed on them so I can't say I blame them - but there should be an out for a situation like this.
Long story short, replacing the sim card with an AT&T issued card obviously yields the invalid sim message.
I've already tried flashing a factory AT&T ROM for the T217A using Odin but it just locks up once the AT&T logo spins a few times. I restored back to the factory Sprint ROM via a backup. I also just paid one of these websites for the code, and I'm waiting to hear back on that one.
Without the MSL, is there any way to unlock or flash these units to get them on our AT&T service?
Any info is appreciated.
Its seems like if you are running 4.2.2 this tool should work for getting the tablets unlocked.
Isnt ATT a GSM provider?, those sprint tablets are CDMA, they use the sim only for owner verification for the 4G network, they have to be flashed thru DFS, they do not have GSM radios.
SPRINT TABLETS: CDMA2000 1xEV-DO CDMA2000 EV-DO Rev A, LTE
ATT TABLETS: Quad-Band 850/900/1800/1900 GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+, LTE
Unless ATT has CDMA those tablets will never work on that carrier.

Well that's interesting. I would have expected our AT&T rep at the store to know that... smh To be honest, I had seen the LTE designation on both AT&T and Sprint models so I assumed it would default to that. This is obviously my first stab at anything tablet related so I'm glad I posted here before wasting any more time. I'll have to see if AT&T supports CDMA but from what I'm reading I don't think they do. Thanks for pointing me straight.

Its no problem, glad to help.
And yes, both have LTE designation but implement it on different technologies, i like CDMA better, fast consistent speeds even with 1 bar signal, whereas GSM greatly depends on the connected users and is greatly impacted by the antenna location.
ATT rep must have been confused also by the sprints sim slot, just tell him that samsung left it there for shíts n giggles.
Have a great day.
I've tried reading a lot on multiple sites for a while now and see people saying you can put it on Verizon and other saying you can't. I've got the phone rooted and it's working on T-Mobile but I really want to put it on Verizon even if it loses some functionality maybe. Do I just need to flash s7 firmware now?
Verizon doesn't really use the same frequencies as they are a CDMA network and ATT/TMob is GSM.

This device is an AT&T exclusive so it was built to function on AT&T's bands and services. The phone, when unlocked is easy to use on T-Mobile, or any of AT&T or T-Mobile's MVNO's such as Cricket or Metro as both use the same 3G tech, T-Mobile uses the 2G tech AT&T used to use and both use bands 2,4 and 12 on 4G LTE. However, Verizon uses entirely different 2G and 3G technology based on CDMA compared with AT&T/T-Mobile's GSM. Verizon does use bands 2 and 4 on 4G LTE so this phone may, in theory, be able to connect to Verizon 4G LTE on those two bands. However much of Verizon's LTE service is on a low-frequency band numbered 13 that is not accessible by Galaxy S7 Active. I don't think Verizon will permit this phone to register on the network even on Bands 2 and 4.
