From what I understand the best battery rom is base off of gingerbread. If so what is it and can I still get it on my phone? If it's ics what is it? I been on pa jb Rom and love it but really need my phone to last more than 6-8hrs

2.3.6 GB Rom ----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332837
4.0.4 ICS -----> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527041
(Supposed to be one of the better ones from what i've seen) Quick search for this should yield results due to it being discussed quite a bit in the recent days. Again YMMV as for ANY Rom. (All depends on use, things like that) I'm a casual user for just texting and occasion FB checks.. I can get 10 hours or so with hour screen on different roms.. I run data off with screen off and a few other things... (auto sync to a minimum) things like that.. haven't tested PA lately to see what i can pull on it.. I may this evening. Read a few post on the ones that interest you, i'm sure someone has mentioned battery. I hope this helps some..
Recalked is good
But in my opinion good battery life can be achieved on a lot of roms with the right kernel ,scripts, etc

I'm getting good results with blazer rom 1.5..
Sent from my hand
Stock battery Aosp ICS rom. No scripts but undervolted. Normal brightness. This after a regular day with lots of screen time so probably 15 hours phone on total with minimal calls
Recalk is good, as areboth of calkulins roms. Same with phantomhackers blazer roms. The gb builds are better if you are having ics battery issues, but there are a few fixes for that as well. No known "cure all" though if I am not mistaken.
Tersus Satus FI27 I don't have pics of my phone but it didn't need a charge for two days, I am on my second charge now. My battery needed to be charged within 6-10 hours even if it wasn't used except for a few short phone calls. the two day charge was used for texting, emails, calls and browsing moderately over 3g. The main benefit is the battery is not losing much life when it sits unplugged and not being used if you forget to plug it in when sleeping like I did. I woke up and seen it thinking I was going SOL later but the battery had only gone down 1%.

I recently updated my E4GT to CyanogenMod 9 alpha 5 and my battery has been dying insanely fast. I noticed immediate drops in battery % at random times, see attached image.

Its ok man just messing with you but yea until kernel source comes out either deal with it or go back to GB... Oh yea and try and polish up on your ICS knowledge for the future

I dont know about all that I am on CM9 as well and I get the same life maybe a little less than I did on the gingerbread roms. I easily make it through a day with heavy use with battery life to spare. It must be a rouge app.

I know about the battery issues, but I have never seen a drop like in the screenshot I posted. I don't know if you looked at it, but I have not read of a reason for this to occur. It drops somewhere around 30% immediately

Simple man the kernel sucks life out of your phone when custom kernels start flowing so will your battery life.

I solved the problem.
I have three batteries.
Sorry to bring up a dead topic but since these issues are still rampant and there is no "official" fix thread that I know of, I thought I'd post my findings and fixes that I have come acrossed (I take no credit for any of these methods) after taking these steps, my ics battery issues are gone.
Backup anything you don't want to lose.
Do a factory reset from the privacy settings.
Format internal SD AND external SD under storage settings.
Change wifi advanced setting "keep wifi on during sleep" to never.
Turn off display battery percentage under display settings.
That's it! One or more of these methods fixed my issues, I was having next to all of the problems people are having. Including the random massive battery drops mentioned in op.
Also your notification light and battery light could drain as well.

Sigh another battery thread.

ROM? No idea. Kernel? Trinity
Not every ROM and Kernel combo is the best for everyone. YOU have to see which work best for YOU and YOUR usage. All these are really "hey let's all post what we're using because it's our favorite and if we're using it it MUST be the best"

CM9 SKANK/TRINITY alpha 85~4.7~1344-307=4 hrs or more screen on time and about stands still on standby. I do not allow anything to run in background (manually update when needed) and I only have apps I use on my phone. I have ran this setup for wks. Just updated to today's build.. With this kernel I've had no reboots but if u do try Trinity and have a reboot bump voltage up a hair till it quits. It will. And never have I gotten the screen time I do w Trinity w/ any other kernel. Been through the list. Also this rom, its the most dependable there is in my opinion. Scrolls like no other!! Lots of new options like status bar on bottom..much more!! Still flawless!

No it isn't "another battery thread" I wanted to see what people were getting. I don't run 3G or wifi really at all unless I'm using them. I know how to use my battery. I also know it matters for each phone. The stuff I have tried isn't giving me the results I think are possible with my phone. Obviously the stuff I am trying hasn't worked. There isn't much more info NEEDED. I asked basically what people were getting and on what combinations. Someone else's combination might do wonders for me. I'll try trinity since many people are suggesting it. I'll run it over PA for now, and see what I'm getting.

No point in digging through threads when I can find answers here.
I have the gsm gnex and i'm using AOKP build 39 with franco kernel nightly 192 and i constantly get around 3 1/2 to 4 hour screen on time. In my opinion the best combo. Experimenting with different kernels is however fun.

been out of the xda scene for a bit and definitely need a new rom
i'm currently on CM9 alpha-6 and get just awful battery life, less than 4 hours.
What rom should i look at for good battery life and a less buggy experience?
also, i'm not very familiar with a lot of the stuff here, but are there any things i can do to increase signal strength, my brother on the 4s on the same network will have service in places where i get no service etc.

on cm9 alpha 6 you really shouldn't be getting battery that low... I could get two days with about 2 hours screen time back when I was running it. Turn off haptic feedback and LED notification and it will help. If I recall correctly the led light prevents the phone from going into deep sleep. Also, keep auto sync off and battery will improve dramatically... Furthermore, most of the newer builds (including the cm9 nightlies) have governors by which you'll be able to optimize your battery life. Anything with one of agat's source built kernels, one of chris41g's kernels or the kuban kernel will do... Just make sure you use a kernel that is compatible with the Rom you choose. however, ics is a "heavier" os than gingerbread, so getting gingerbread battery life isn't likely.
I've used most of the ROMs and I can't say that I notice too much of a difference in battery life on them (apart from builds before source dropped). Maybe an hour or so, but without consistent usage it's really hard to tell... I suppose I would suggest Black, Calk& Venum tweaked or the blu kuban. I'm getting good battery like on black, and the dark theme obviously helps battery... Kuban is also pretty dark too, and Ruj is really involved in his thread. I put my brother on kuban and he's not complaining about his battery anymore so I guess it's better than what he was on before (one of the early ics leaks). Calk and Venum tweaked has calk's legendary battery tweaks so you won't hurt there.
As to your signal strength, make sure you update prl and profile... If you stay on cm9 youll need to use el29 temp boot in order to do so. I know sprint updated their prl so you are definitely on an outdated one if you've been on alpha 6 since june when it dropped... Also mess around with modems till you find one that responds well.

Apples to oranges.. different hardware = different experiences.. Either shoot him, convert him or join him on that one.. You pick.

I know im going to get flamed on this for making 'another better rom for battery thread' but ive been away for two weeks and i see some new roms are out for jellybean, i am currently rocking AndroidMe Cm10 rom, but would like to try a different rom for better batterylife. (its not the best as is ..) i know you guys are going to say every device varies but chances are what most people are getting better battery life on so will mine... so what would you guys reccomend? i really dont want to revert to TeamGummy 4.0.4 (ICS) but if i cant find a better batterylife
well, a better battery life is mostly up 2 the kernel, screen brightness, wireless and network usage, other settings r just familiar of most roms.
though ice has a better battery life than jb, i think
the GUMMY doos have a good battery life 'cause it's using the imoseyon kernel:good:

Not trying to flame you but you answered your own question in the OP. Every device varies along with the way each person uses it. I don't have any technical expertise to fall back on when choosing a ROM so it's mostly a trial-and-error process. Flashing a different ROM or kernel is fairly simple, so just experiment and see which one gives you what you are looking for. I rarely, if ever, got the same performance that other users reported when I had my Evo. And lastly, read what other people are saying about a particular combination. XDA has no shortage of people willing to try out new things and let the rest of the community know how it worked. The last 3 pages of a thread are usually the best place to look and see what kind of success/failure rate is happening.

well, in the 2 weeks that you were gone, there have been amazing breakthroughs in development! The battery now lasts almost 2 weeks with on avg 17hrs of screen on time!
*sigh* just look at the kernel threads and youll see, its not like there's 70+ kernels
Stock.

Just wondering, what ROMS have you guys tried and genuinely thought "Wow, the battery really is good".
I've been trying Renovate since version 8 and battery on my device has been pretty poor, on AR-HD it's quite regular, don't have any issues with it.
I'm sticking with Sense and haven't tried any other Sense ROMS and that's why I'm asking.
Also not planning to switching to AOSP ever.

I used ViperX for a long time. That has always given me the best battery life. I've even been able to get up to 6h of screen on time with heavy internet use.
If you're looking for a JB sense ROM, I had great battery life on both InsertCoin and OrDroid. Nowhere near ViperX, but still good.

Had a PM asking how I manage to get 6 hours of on screen use and thought my reply might help others, so I'm going to post it here too.
"Hey man,
That was with ViperX 2.7.1 running the AOSP theme.
Yeah I've had 6 hours, or near to it, quite a few times now. I actually use the stock kernel included in .zip.
I also desense the rom and mainly use the phone with about 30% brightness. Also, make sure feed sync is switched off in Facebook under the accounts and sync area in the settings because that's an absolute killer. I still have Plume and GMail set to sync almost all the time, but with Facebook on, it totally destroys the battery. If you want to sav even more battery whilst increasing battery life, switch everything to manual sync.
ViperX is an excellent choice. I've used loads of the new JB sense roms and none can compare to ViperX for battery life and the excellent mods included.
Hope this helps."
