never...

4-5 times?

Twice. Maybe three.
--------------------------------------------------
If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^

At least twice of powerful drop like when I was walking and slide out of my hand and fly over 2,3 meters and then hit ground....but lucky still work although I feel something wrong with vibration...

Two times, and mine's naked.!! Ding in the upper right corner and small scratches on screen, not visible when it's on.
I don't regret carrying it naked though, can't stand skins and stuffs on my Gnex... is not a Gnex anymore!

Twice.
-Brought to you by Marino's Galaxy Nexus-

Once, face down into gravel. 3 large scratches, thankfully on the bottom and top where they're hard to notice. Couple small knicks in the middle you can't really see without looking very hard.
Boo, but its all good. Doesn't change the usability of the phone.

Never.

i threw mine on the floor last week to make fun of my friend that dropped their phone and it broke. mine was fine (otter box defender).

Once but that was on carpet. Still working fine with no scratches or dings

3-4 times all at work -_-

Never! Had a close call while holding the baby. But the brain and hands work fast together so I caught it. Good thing kids have this self healing capability.

far too many times, and its still fine!

Been thru a few drops with this phone, but thankfully its been in a decent case since around day 3 (otter box)

All the time! A couple of times I thought "this is it", but fortunately, nothing happened so far. I don't use any protection (on the phone I mean)

A couple. Only one major drop. About 25 feet from a lighting grid above my schools Black Box theater. The phone hit the ground pretty hard, but the case popped off upon hitting the ground, and bounced, absorbing most of the force. I guess my phone needs a harness just like I do:laugh:!

The inertia from a moving car flung it harder than your drop. A friends of mine lost his riding his bike at about 20MPH. He said it dinged the corners, but is fine other than that.

THIS. I was going to say the same thing. The Defender is a lifesaver. I dropped mine on the blacktop asphalt standing up out my car and couldn't even find a scratch or imperfection on the case, much less the phone.
I have a case but it ruins the feel of the phone for me. Normally I'm very careful with it I just happen to be an idiotic mistake cause I was preoccupied trying to not look like an idiot hahah.

My next nexus won't leave a case... any suggestions for good cases? Slim but effective. Preferably black
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I don't use a case because I think they detract from the design of the phone. I'm just very careful and I suppose I pay for insurance in case something crazy happens.
My old ASUS A8JS ($1500) took a similar spill off the roof of my car when I took a turn doing about 25Mph. I stopped in the middle of traffic (no one honked - must of been the look on my face) and collected my laptop and the battery (which was on the other side of road). My only hope at that time was that the HDD survived (hadn't done a backup in some time), but to my surprise everything still functioned pretty much perfectly (touchpad seemed a little off, but it sucked anyway). In the end it was pretty scratched up, but it always made for a good story to tell...
Your move Samsung.

[Humor][Galaxy Nexus Edition] You know you have OCD When

Sorry if its a repost but i was thinking of all the stupid **** i do just to not hurt my Galaxy Nexus... I mean some of the things i do are really exaggerated.
So i came to the conclusion that i have OCD on my cellphone because
First couple of days with my Gnex i was wrapping it in a microfiber cloth before going to sleep making sure there was no exposure what so ever.
Here's a really dumb one. when i was driving with my windows open i made sure my Gnex was cover in case some of the wind had dirt with little rocks that may hit my phone.
Lol!
I treat it like a man.
Some dust got in the speaker vent, I had to use a piece of paper to get it out, annoying.

My first drop

I forgot my phone was in my lap when I was getting out of the car. I heard it slap the ground and just knew it was bad. I also had no case on it. I took it off earlier in the day to do something and forgot to put it back on. The only consolation is that I was at the mall and I ended up getting a galaxy nexus. I'm still so pissed.

AHahaha that nexus sure looks like an iphone!
But for real...that same thing happened to me. I have the Ballistic SG Case that would protect my SGSII from the apocalypse but one day I decided it was a little too bulky and took it off to feel the true beauty of my phone and not 30 minutes later I got out of my truck at the gas station and saw my beautiful white galaxy slide across the concrete...mine only caught a little nick on the corner thank god but it still hurt none the less. And its funny how as soon as you take it out of its case it decides to fall!
The pic was taken before I got the Nexus. Had to go to the jewelry store before radio shack so she shopped and I took pictures of my phone. I got the insurance this time.

Atleast you were able to get a new one and didnt have to live with a broken screen. Its no GSII but its still nice. Which do you like better?
I am loving the pure Google experience. This this is so smooth. When I got the nexus 7 I wished my phone would work like that. I kind of got my wish, just not how I wanted it. I don't know if I could use android skinned again.

I have always been so careful with my phones. My fiance and cousin both stopped dead in their tracks when they heard my phone hit the ground. I just graduated college last week and I have 3 interviews this week. Of all weeks to have been potentially out of a phone. I am glad I was able to get a new phone. Don't do what I did. Get insurance.
The Nexus is a darn fine phone, but it's slower than the ET4G. Obviously plenty fast enough for most things, but it is slower and that difference will rear it's ugly head time to time.
Well, I must be lucky, I've dropped my phone tens of times, onto ci crete, grass, floors, from all different levels. Actually earlier today ixwa riding my bike and did a kickflup, it fell outta my pocket and I landed the back tired on it, no cracks yet, looks just like new

Damn that sucks. Has happened to me a few times, except every time it has fallen out of my lap from a moving truck, which sits twice as high as a regular truck/car. I've dented every corner but my screen has luckily remained perfect. I must've gotten the toughest epic touch ever built.

I thought you just shake it and the cracks go away...
Oh wait, that's only on my "Crack Your Screen" app (aka... my iPhone app)
I've resisted putting on an Otterbox or Trident case for a while. I don't want to add too much bulk to the phone, and since I've grown a distate for belt clips (I don't always wear belts, and as a bigger kid growing up, my gut would always get in the way), I keep the phone in my pocket. There's a few light scratches on the screen, and one or two on a corner where I dropped it. Drives me a little crazy sometimes, but my phone has fared well otherwise. I have the kickstand grip from the Sprint store, that's it.
I "acquired" a first gen iPod Nano last year, before Apple recalled a bunch for battery problems. I sent mine in and they replaced it with a sixth-generation nano, which I thought was awesome (and no, I'm not an Apple fanboy). I was getting out of my car with a couple of bags, and not realizing there was a clip on the back of the iPod, I just tried to grab and hold it with the bags. Fate was not so kind to me, as I dropped the iPod, face down, onto the strip of driveway I park on. Right onto some rocks. While it still works, it doesn't look very pretty.
Now that I moved in with my fiancee and her dogs and cats, I really need to be careful with my hardware.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
This. This is why I have a case on mine. I've dropped mine on several occasions, two being the same situation as yours, not a scratch on it whatsoever.
this is why you dont set your phone on your lap in your car. not to mention, if that **** slides off and gets stuck between the middle console and the car seat, it can be a ***** to remove. i always rest it on the seat, in my crotch area, with the speaker up so i can hear the ringer and notifications. plus i can feel it vibrate which is always nice.

I generally leave the phone on the passenger seat (when no one else is with me), in the cup holder, or in a compartment under my stereo. That's probably in ascending order of safety. I've dropped my phone down the crevice between my seat and the center console, and yes, it is a pain to get out of there. Always worried I will scuff up the screen or find some long lost piece of food under there to fall on top of.

Good news

I feel like no one ever posts good stories and there is always a negative tone so I Wanted to post about some very sad news from last night.
I dropped my naked S3 last night from a fourth floor balcony onto large stone gravel flat on the screen.
I watched in horror as my first ever drop was definetly the last one that my phone would take. After slowing going down the stairs, and even slower picking the phone up I found it on, working, and fully funtional. There is a decent size spider webbed crack on the screen but for how far and how badly it landed I couldn't believe it.
This was the final testominate on how sick these phones really are. Like many here I am a long time Iphone switcher and I am never looking back. All the BS about samsung build quality is definetly put to rest.
As upset I am to have ****ed up this beautiful phone I am equally happy and impressed on how well it survive.
Good job Samsung. :good:

Yea Idk how I feel about this. Other videos I've seen have made it seem almost impossible and I don't have the steadiest hands haha
Very impressive to see the extent of the damage from a 4 story drop. I would have guessed just about any phone would nearly explode from such a fall on a hard surface. You actually could very well replace the screen like mentioned above and be ok.

Fragile?

So, I'm looking at getting the Optimus G, but have a few reservations, the biggest of which is the glass panel on the back. I'm wondering from you guys about real-world usage is this something I should be worried about. I don't like cases because they add too much bulk and I'm normal in that drops my phone on the concrete from time to time. Also, I've got young kids which, unfortunately, can lead to some extra drops. Should I be worried about the glass on the back cracking? Any advise would be much appreciated!
A few other reservations are related to the non-upgradable storage and non-removable battery, but I think I'm okay with those.
I have had this phone since it was released and I hardly ever have my bumper case on it and I've dropped it and have never had an issue. I don't know what it is with this phone but it seems indestructible.
I'm not one to drop my phone so I can't personally say anything about the durability of the phone after a drop. But I do know its a mixed bag. And judging from what you said, you drop your phone quite frequently. In which case, I can't recommend this phone for you. This isn't like other phones where if you crack the screen you can still use it. It becomes unresponsive. So my opinion, this phone is a no go for you.

Other people would beg to differ I'm sure.
Most of the time I use a pretty cheap rubber case by Diztronic. I've dropped it a few times from a few feet up onto concrete in this case, and it's been totally fine. That said, I don't know how it would fare without the case. You really should have a case for any phone you get, though. Particularly if it's glass. But there's nothing about this phone that makes it more fragile than the other glass guy.
Thanks!
Thanks for the information! I wouldn't say I'm a frequent dropper, but I do keep my phones for 2 years for the upgrade and in that time there are a number of drops. Thanks again!
I have an otter box on my phone. The other day I was running on my treadmill and using my phone to listen to some tunes when it fell out of my pocket on to the treadmill and hit a wall. Its still in perfect condition.
