[Q] OTA update this morning 10/12/2012 ? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Did anyone receive OTA update this morning? I woke up at 5 in the morning and saw I had update on my S3.. I try to upgrade it but it failed because my phone is rooted and it gave me error something with the key on the CWM.
Let me know if someone else had similar update

I think it's LI3..........it's been appearing on many phones for the past week.

The only OTA that is being pushed out right now is LI3. If you are stock rooted you will not be able to accept it if you have a custom recovery. If you do accept it (with a stock recovery) you will lose root.
To manually apply the update to a stock rooted phone (and maintain root) follow the procedure posted here.

I applied it and I'm stock rooted with custom recovery and I did not loose root.
I simply lost my custom recovery which was easily fixable by reflashing it.
I would like to know what update includes though. Is it just the security issue mentioned a few weeks ago about internet links being able to reset your phone?

The OTA is trying to install on my phone

I just now got the message and it's asking me to install. Problem is that I don't wasn't to lose my data or my root. Will this update erase my phone and un root it?

Do you know if I'll lose data? Also, If I install the update now, is there a way to regain root once I lose it? Thanks.
All I want is root and tether
i dont think they would be stupid enough to push out an update that would force everyone's phone to lose all their apps and settings, unless of course that update was an ICS update.

Install OTA, then download and install busy box and superuser app. Then use Odin to flash rogue stock ek02 kernel/recovery in development section. That should be all you need to do, to gain root.

Check the tread in development that says [dump]
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
first of all the update is not going to flash if you are rooted.
second if somehow you flash it just root like you did the first time.
updates don't wipe data but if you try to flash it on a rooted/non stock phone you are going to have to wipe and reflash anyway.
Hmm, hopefully I get this updated soon. Thanks for the help so far
Ok, I've been reading in the threads mentioned in the posts above and still feel somewhat confused. Apparently in the thread with "dump" in the title, I have to be on a stock EG30 "odexed" rom to flash the EK02 update.
I am currently on stock EG30 "deodexed" rooted rom. So do I need to first revert back to a stock odexed EG30 rom? Then odin the ek02.tar? Then find a root method?
So they've started releasing the OTA?
Got my notice this morning
Someone posted something in the sprint website on the link below. Looks like it started release yesterday...

Man why dont you just update with one of the rooted roms in the forum instead of dealing with all this what should I do and I am confused. All you need is here and if you are rooted already why are you worrying about the OTA..
I believe FOTA apk will stop you from seeing that. There is a disable update script you can run that freezes that(pm disable com.samsung) link here ). I mean way more options than what to do is says I have the update

how to install the official tmobile update?

Hi i am having trouble installing the the tmobile software update that was release about a week ago. I bought this phone awhile back from a guy who had it rooted but i told him to have it reset to the original mode. Whenever i try to update it it takes me back to recover mode CWM. What should i do? If not what are benefits of rerooting if i can?
There are 3756372848362 threads on this exact topic and they have all been posted since the OTA update came out two weeks ago.

And here's a hint: if you are using cwm recovery the ota update will not work with your phone.

Unroot Note II?

Hey guys
I recently rooted my Galaxy Note II but now that the multi-screen update is out I want to unroot it to be able to update my mobile phone. How can I do so without re-flashing my device? I also looked for the newer build that contains the multi-screen functionality but I couldn't find the one for my region (UAE). So please if anybody finds it please post the link because I think it would be so much easier and faster...
I am afraid I was on the same position like yours and I did unroot, just go to SU and select the option to Unroot and SU will be uninstalled and your device will be unrooted for sure but some trace will still be there and device status will stay as 'Custom'. Even if you use the Play Store version of Trinagle Away and reset the counters! To make it official either you have to perform a Full wipe, if that don't do it, then you have to re-flash the whole ROM.
Unless and until your device status and binary both are Official you WON'T be receiving any update via OTA or Kies.

Hi there
If you are rooted you can still get Over The Air updates so dont worry
You can find all stock ROMs here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
And there is no need to Unroot to flash a newer version of stock ROM. Unroot or keep rooted, flashing a rom will have the same effect, and updare over the air will have sane effect :good:
Hit thanks if i helped
I can absolutely confirm no need to unroot - I rooted mine immediately I received it last week, after a couple of days it automatically updated ota to multiscreen.

Thats wrong.
I myself have updated OTA with root.
And its also wrong that you will not get OTA update. Lol we even get OTA updates on totally customized Custom Roms but they cant be updated because of change kernel (and changes in rom ofc).
And lol he is quoting dr.ketan and saying that he is wrong. dr.ketan is a recognized contributor so he would be correct or this person? i stand and testify dr.ketan's statement

No need to bash me friend. I am not questioning anybody, I just asked 'why'? I don't think it's unfair. And I am not the ONLY person. I have see other persons have the exact same problem like me.
And another thing, do you really think this RC/RD/Thanks meter stuffs mean that much? I am not questioning Dr.Ketan's credibility by ANY MEANS but you know what I mean!
One thing, what I've said is applied to them who have rooted with either Chainfire's Stcok recovery or Chenglu's Advanced recovery, can't say about any other thing.

[Q] I just need verification before I do this

Just got my galaxy s3 today and rooted it. It is currently running Android version 4.0 4 and I noticed there was a system update available. I was wondering if I can update with it being rooted already or would that mess something up completely? I also have MetroPCS and I saw no board for them.

Like the other poster said, it will fail with a custom recovery. However, if you have the stock recovery still, it will work fine provided that you use OTA Rootkeeper to protect root access. Don't worry about the warning in the app description that the app won't work with Samsung updates over Kies. It doesn't apply since your update will be OTA. Rootkeeper will work just fine.
Putting the ILLA in KILLA since 1985
This is the root i used androidforums.com/metropcs-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/637123-howto-root-automatic-root-sgsiii
Kinda new to the whole rooting thing. I did the exact instructions given, so is it safe to just "update" sorry for all the noob questions, I have to learn somehow
They just told you that bit will not work. You are rooted the update will attempt to load and will fail. You have to manually flash all the updates they are available in the threads. Look for them. Unless someone is kind enough to post the links.

I hate to put it like this, but the above is not true.
Even with a custom recovery, the update can still go through. It's not a 100% chance, but it can happen and has even happened to me while i had CWM installed
Check out my OTA sticky thread (its in general) to see what your options are. If you take it hoping it will fail but instead get updated, you will need to reroot

This is correct, you can still install am ota with a custom recovery... having a custom kernel our modifying system apps is what causes it to fail, not the recovery
SPRINT GS3 FAQ
That may be a very small percentage of possibilities. My wife's S3 was totally stock other than rooted. Nothing else. The OTA failed, at that point I took her to TPR. I've personally had 5 android devices none of which have ever taken ota while rooted. The moment I flash stock via Odin they take the ota instantly.
If he's rooted his best option is Freezas thread. It's so easy to just flash it all in recovery, and it's already rooted just saying. There's no difference in rom, firmware or anything it's the update via flashable.

Correct it will say failed and you just reboot and nothing updates. The you go to Freezas thread download the rom and the baseband and update it yourself.

Exactly, save yourself the trouble, just go to freeza's thread and download your preferred ROM (odex or deodex) then flash via your custom recovery. It's simpler and faster than trying and failing w/OTA...

[Q] No OTA still after unrooting my SM-N900T (Note 3)

Hi everyone
I need a little bit of help, my phone doesn't take OTA upgrades from TMobile after unrooting my phone. The reason why I unrooted my phone is that the LTE signal disappeared on my phone and texting and surfing the internet was impossible. I look around the forums and I didn't found any thread that explain the reason why my phone doesn't want to download any OTA's. I don't know if I missed something or I skep any steps but let me tell you what I did.
To unroot my phone I downloaded Odin 3.09 and Stock ROM 4.3 from sammobile website, I wiped my phone first, after then reboot to bootloader, connect phone to the computer and select the rom. The process took couple minutes to complete. After that I went to updated software and it said "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available." . I don't know if missed something or I'm suppose to do something else. Any help would be appreciated.
I just want to said Thank You in advance
