I don't think there is a way to tell unless maybe you open it up and even then I don't know. The only difference between the two are the wireless data frequencies they support. If you are the original owner of the phone it is possible to tell by which region of the world you live in because of the frequencies they support. Europe and Asia had the A8181 and Austrialia and North America used A8183.

yes, it's passible to do. I've done it a few weeks ago. You have to S-OFF your Desire (a lot of tips in the internet you can find (Hint: Revolutionary)). After S-OFF, you should find a file called
Code:
Su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
put it into your SD card, and flash it from recovery menu (insall zip from sd-card -> find your file). wait a few seconds, and it'll be done, you'll have soff and root.
Revolutionary I think is the easiest to use to turn soff

Has anyone using JB roms got the search with camera feature? I learnt about it just now and I don't have even though I have the latest google search from maket.
I have it with 10.1. You have to click menu to get the option to come up. Works great!

That is odd. Which version of Search do you have, and which ROM are you using? You might also try changing the default language to English (US) and see if that makes a difference.
EDIT:
For reference, I'm using 2.2.10.546669 of Google Search.

Search version is the same as yours, the ROM is VJ's CM 10.1. Changing the language to English (US) did the trick! Although I would prefer to have my phone in my mother language :s do you think it's some kind of bug or is this feature only avaidable for some countries?
