Use odin to get your recovery installed but uncheck auto reboot.
When done unplug and hold power untill the screen turns off. Immediately let go of power and then press and hold Power + Volume up + Home. (Be quick)
When you see blue text flash on top of screen release power but keep holding other two until you get into recovery. (You may not have to keep holding home and vol, but its always wirked for me)
Now flash your SuperSU/Superuser and reboot.
Once booted delete/rename these files:
/system/recovery-from-boot.p
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
This will stop stock recovery from being rewritten.
Now using goo or rom manager reinstall recovery again if you so choose.
Hope that helps.

[Q] Bootloop

So I'm running an unlocked rogers galaxy note 2 I1737M. I was using clean rom 3.3 then today it just crashed everything. I tried to reboot to recovery and well it got stuck in a boot loop there. This was at work so now several hours later I am sitting here trying to reset set my phone. I have tried odin to restore to the stock files, hell I would be happy with just that. I used the imiage found in the refrence thread of the android develpment. any tips? links? help of any kind? Anything will be greatly apreceated.
worst part is I got it yesterday.
EDIT: I thought I should add that I am using odin v1.85 and that I am unable to get the phone to boot into anysort of recovery, ok I did once but can't get it to do it again. Not even stock.

I'm unable to boot into the recovery, custom or stock. It displays the samsung logo then once again reboots itself......
Had the same issue.
What kernel were u on.
Only fix I founfd that didn't wipe data was ro download CWM recovery on a pc and place with odin. Boot into download mode by holding volume down, home and power. Might take a few tries between boot loops.

I was using Stock LJ2 kernel CMW-flashable. After several hours of fighting with TWRP I was able to install CWM using odin and got my self out it looks like. The only thing with CWM is that data wipe seems to crash the recovery so I hope this dirty install of the rom I had saved on their works just fine.

Galaxy SIII huge problem. Need help

My friend just recently bought himself an SIII and we were going to switch him to ST. His phone has some issues however. Apparently the guy he bought it off of showed him it worked fine. The wi-fi and everything worked. But now we try messing with it and every time we try to open up settings menu "unfortunately TouchWiz home has stopped working".
Not only that. We can not move apps/widgets nore turn on wifi.
Running 4.1.1
Was suggested firmware reset.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

A factory reset or firmware reset might be your solution here. Backup your stuff first though.

There's no need to root to use Odin.
Factory reset was tried already. Suggestions on how to firmware reset?
Backing up the system seems pointless seeing as he has nothing on the phone from just having bought it, unless there are other reasons for backing up I don't know about.

if factory reset doesn't work, try Odin and flash Stock Rom?
make sure you backup and save it on your Computer first though(if you're rooted)

here's a link to the stock firmware page. locate the correct carrier and download the version you wish. my wife's phone is running the "DLK3" version (jelly bean). the instructions are on the page. after downloading the files, installing the samsung drivers, and installing odin, i would:
1. boot into recovery (press home + vol up + pwr together. let go of the power button when the phone vibrates and displays blue text in the top left corner)
2. wipe data
3. wipe cache
4. reboot and power down
5. place phone into download mode (home + vol dwn + power). you should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up.
6. connect phone to computer via usb and open odin
7. your ROM is a single .tar.md5 package so click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you extracted
8. click start to flash. If odin hangs at setting up connection just unplug the USB cable and re-attach it, Odin should now resume
9. do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device once the flash has started, it will reboot when it finishes.
10. power down and boot into recovery again and wipe data and cache again. reboot and you're reset and good to go.

Excellent. That bit of info seems perfect. Will attempt this tomorrow when access to computer is present.
Any further information is appreciated.

Find the one for you're friend, and download it. This will root you're phone and will not void you're warranty, and you're device will not show up as modified. This is the safest way to root you're phone and since this is a firmware it will replace you're old firmware. If flashing this doesn't work, then just wipe you're data. If none of these work then it's an application you're friend has downloaded, some of them could do that.

Basically this.
If you have cwm installed, what you need to do is pull battery, put battery back in. Press home button, volume down, and power. When you see "Samsung Galaxy Note II", let go of all three buttons and the phone will go into cwm recovery.
If not volume down then try up.

[Q] Help with recovery

My power button recently stopped working so i went into recovery and it wouldn't work there either (couldn't select an option). So i pulled the battery for a reboot but now when it reboots by itself, it goes back to the recovery. Its stock recovery and I'm running Jellyverse v4. I tried going into Odin and then pressing volume down to reboot but it goes back to recovery. I don't want to flash EL29 because if my power button still doesn't work on that, I wont be able to boot up. Is there some way I can get out of recovery?

When you go into EL29 recovery make sure you press volume up and down to enable back power button.

If your power button doesn't work, then you DON'T want to press volume up, down, up in cwm. Default "select" button in el26/el29 is the home button. So you can flash el29, the power button is disabled by default, use the home button to select and run your restore, and you're golden.

Yeah I figured it out after installing EL29. I had to do a clean flash of Jellyverse because I didn't have a backup because the phone wouldn't back up my current ROM for some reason. But at least I'm not stuck in recovery. Thanks though!

Need help going back to stock

Currently on a custom ROM with custom recovery. How do I set it back to stock? Just flash the firmware? If so how? Need help ASAP please
Sent from my XT890 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Put a stock Update file on your SDcard /dload folder
turn of your phone and boot your phone in recovery. So keep pushing on/off button, + and - button together.
Hold them pressed till the recovery menu comes and it will do the rest automaticly.
