Hello everyone!
I've searched all the webpages, but i couldn't find an answer, so i'll try it here!
So the problem is on my Sony Xperia S with stock rom 4.0.4.
On the Sony Xperia S, you have 1 GB ram, but 400 mb is prereserved for android, so you have 600 mb for user usage.
The strange thing is that there still is some hidden ram usage, because if you look at the screenshot, you'll see that the apps you can close in the task manager don't include the whole 600 mb, but only around 400 ~ 300 mb. I wanna know where that is used for, because 300 mb isn't much for user usage ..
Thank you in advance
ps.
sorry for my bad english !

Alright, and there's no way to stop those services?
And how long wil it take before the update arives? Because this ram issue is really affecting the way of playing games or just doing some normal web searching.. :crying:
It's normal.. I mean: everybody on Stock ROM has same usage. However, you said 300MB is not too much.. But it's not like on PCs: On Android every MB RAM free it's wasted MB. Android is managing RAM automatically, killing processes etc. in background to give another application more RAM (That's why more and more ppl argue about using task killers, which are useless in 4.0+)

That much free ram is normal. If you want more free ram, firstly don't use task killers. Secondly go to settings--->apps and force stop any apps that you have installed like Facebook etc which run in the background. If you force stop an app, it can never start on its own unless it is a system app. Thirdly, I don't know if you are rooted but if you have superuser access then just debloat your rom by deleting unnecessary apks like Music Unlimited and all other crap. If you don't know how to do all this then the best would be to just flash a custom rom as all custom roms will provide much better performance than stock.
300 - 400 Mb free ram is enough to play games... Android frees up more ram itself if its needed.
R: [Q] Strange ram usage
For example Stock Gives 635Mb band Cm10.1 720Mb..

i use stock 2.3.4 rom. I would not change rom because of my SE liveview that is not fully compatible with a non-stock rom
Besides, in Android, unused RAM is wasted RAM.

Yes but i can't play a game because when i start the app, the free ram becomes about 80 mb that is absolutely not enough to play a game smoothly
for getting good gaming experience in xperia play you shoul download light roms and you need to install lupus gb kernel and overclock to 1.4-1.6
there is no other way

I'm already running lupus gb kernel and already overcklocked to 1.4. What do you mean with "light roms"?
the roms that dont have many ram eating apps
for example gin2jellybean 1.9.8 is one of them
aurora play is great in gaming too and it too nice
but there are some problem with gb roms so i recommend krissdee hybrid rom
im using it now
for now i stayed on it for some hours its very good record for me(i cant use stock based ics roms more than 1 hour)

just saw your profile..indeed you are nice to know im not alone in the xda universe
80mb of free ram means there's 80mb that the game could be using, while it isn't.

No, android will kill apps starting with the oldest to give the game more RAM.

Hi, i have this problem too before. Which class of sd card your using?
If you have sd card class 4 then dont move the game to sd or just install it to internal memory.
I dont know if this help but you should try it. Now i have no lag when playing games like mc4,asphalt7,hoc,real racing3,etc.
Im on aurora play, smartass2 1.2 ghz+sio.
I wonder why my Redmi 1S got its ram quite busy . i didn't feel any lag or anything but just wondering . it's 307/1gb . i understand that system took some of the ram management and so on other apps (facebook, line, etc) but 717 mb is just too many (1024-307= 717 ) . anyone encountering the same thing like me ? i'm new here so sorry for my bad english . please share some of your screenshot on ram management and there's some screenshot of my running apps and ram management
871-307=566
Actually MiUi only shows like that...our usable RAM available is only 873MB rest of 1024 is reserved for GPU ! Same situation on moto G !
The powerful GPU uses RAM but makes all fluent

thanks for replying ! it's good to know that my phone is fine ! just bought it for a week and done tweaking . i guessed as long as it is still smooth, it shouldn't be a problem. no wonder that it's only had 307 free ram .
In addition to both replies above, our true free RAM is just always around 150-50mb or lower depends on your OOM settings.
Do you guys know any way to increase free ram / decrease used ram by os or smthing ? Im using Pixel Experience custom rom
Dear experts,
Kindly find a way to utilise GWA2 ram fully ie: 1.5gb
I'm facing slowness while running heavy watch faces and apps.
Kindly help ?
How do you mean it fully? The watch will use as much RAM as the apps use until it hits 1.5gb, THEN it will start to slow down. If it slows down before hitting 1.5gb its not the RAM thats causing it, its the CPU being to slow
This is what I meant
Kindly see the screenshot.
